Jimbaran and Sanur: a respectable beach holiday

Families with small children, retired Europeans who “can afford it”, as well as newlyweds looking for romance choose the resorts of Jimbaran and Sanur. The first (southwest Bali) attracts tourists with great hotels, spas and a dizzying selection of the freshest seafood on the menu of local restaurants. The second (southeast) is richer in entertainment: Bali Perdana Wisata Tirta Park (JL. Danau Poso Gg. Tanjung, No. 30) and the Asmat Art Museum (Jl. Cemara No. 27) await vacationers.

Not far from Sanur, in the village of Blanjong, is one of the oldest temples in Bali, dating back to the 10th century.

Resorts are like shady alleys and wide choice water entertainment. They are strikingly different only at low tides: in Jimbaran they are almost invisible, while the beaches of Sanur at this time are not the most pleasant sight.

Kuta and Seminyak: the party centers of Bali

Cheeky, rumbling with club music, crowded and pretentious, a little arrogant Seminyak, in fact, are twins, simply “raised in different families". Both resorts are located in the southwest and are equally close to the airport. They will appeal to those who cannot imagine a holiday without discos until the morning, noisy crowds and dozens of restaurants, cafes, bars and shops. There are also beaches here, but they are mainly besieged by surfers - the conditions for them are excellent (only the waves in Kuta are a bit high). The rest will rather prefer the water park, if we are talking about Kuta, or the countless art galleries and boutiques, if we talk about Seminyak.

Kuta and Seminyak are the same way of life, but at different prices: in Seminyak, everything is much cooler and, accordingly, more expensive.

There is practically nothing to do with children here, looking for authentic temples and villages is also a so-so occupation.

Nusa Dua: expensive-rich

It is easiest to feel "five stars" in. Access here is closed to ordinary Balinese - the territories of luxury hotels standing on the coast are carefully guarded. So no one will obsessively offer massage on the beach to tourists, but in fashionable spa centers - easily. It is not necessary to be limited only to visiting them: you can take a couple of golf lessons, walk around the Bali Collection shopping center (off. site in English) and visit the famous Devdan show (off. site in English).

Those who miss the old and exotic will have to follow them to neighboring Uluwatu, where the legendary temple rises and rice fields are spread.

Living in is expensive, but you can live nearby - in Tanjung Benoa, where prices are slightly lower. But in this part of the island (southeast), low tides significantly spoil the landscape.

Ubud: the heart of Bali

“Whoever has not heard about Ubud has not heard about Bali,” advanced travelers say. It is understandable: Ubud is the geographical, tourist and cultural center of the island, while it is distinguished by affordable prices and the widest choice of entertainment on the island. In its vicinity are

Of the numerous Indonesian islands - there are 17,508 of them - foreign guests, including Russian ones, have chosen only one. More than four million travelers annually come to picturesque Bali, whose resorts are truly chic. They are attracted here by the desire to relax on the beaches washed by the waters of the ocean, get acquainted with the unique Balinese culture and admire the beautiful natural landscapes.

It can fit three cities like London, or eight St. Petersburg. In this relatively small space, guests will find a variety of holidays in several famous resorts. The best of them will be discussed below.

Jimbaran

Thanks to coral reefs, many resorts in Bali are protected from too large waves that the ocean "sends" to the picturesque coast.

One of them is Jimbaran. He was lucky to be located in quiet bay, so on the golden sandy beach you can see many children having fun with their compassionate parents. For fans of sliding on a solid board on the sea surface, surfing schools are open. The most famous are Rip Curl and Balagan Wave.

  • Surfing in Thailand: the best places, training, reviews

In the evenings, almost all vacationers gather on the crowded coast to sit at tables in one of the 60 restaurants and admire the vivid pictures of the sunset that nature paints.

For fans a relaxing holiday there are several worthy places on the island, such as Sanur. In this quiet resort of Bali, you can often see tourists of venerable age or parents with young wanderers.

For them, nature has created almost ideal conditions: shallow warm sea, no dangerous storms and soft yellowish sand. A walking path stretches along the 7-kilometer beach, on both sides of which tropical plants rise.

There are often lovers of slow running or walking on comfortable bikes.

The resort town attracts fans of snorkeling. Crowds of active vacationers tend to get into Diving Indo - a large dive center where you can not only improve your skills in exploring the depths of the sea, but also go on comfortable boats to the nearby islands, so alluring and truly beautiful, like an earthly paradise.

  • Snorkeling in Thailand: the best places and features

Seminyak

The respectable public in Bali has its own places of rest. First of all, this is Seminyak, famous for its art galleries. In one of them - Kendra - you can see the work of local young artists. Petitenget - a Balinese temple - is well known to most visitors who are eager to visit it to admire the exquisite ornaments on the facade of the sacred structure.

Seminyak attracts hundreds of holidaymakers every day with sandy beaches, as well as the opportunity to try your hand at surfing. For children, the doors of several entertainment centers, among which El Parque stands out. Adults are happy to have fun in Potato Head, Mixwell, Joe and other bars and clubs of the Bali resort, which are open until late at night.

Nusa Dua

For lovers of a comfortable stay, a small resort on the island of Bali is suitable, as if isolated from the islanders. Wealthy holidaymakers come to Nusa Dua first of all. 13 five-star hotels and hotel complexes work for them. Someone chooses luxurious Samabe or Amanusa. Others prefer more budget options - Kubu or Langon.

Due to the coral reef, high waves rarely appear here. But sunbathers are quite satisfied with the comfortable conditions on the 3-kilometer sandy beach, equipped with straw umbrellas and cozy gazebos. Among entertainment and shopping malls Bali collection stands out, where you can not only go shopping, but also visit the cinema, 20 catering outlets, including a Russian restaurant.

Kuta

Approximately seven kilometers separate the capital from the youth resort of Bali. This is how Kuta is most often characterized, although tourists of all ages rest here. Travelers are attracted by a 5-kilometer sandy strip.

Active people strive to get here to test themselves in the art of conquering the waves of a restless ocean. For them, there are several surf schools. Russians often study at Surf Discovery, where a group of qualified Russian instructors work.

Young people will be pleased with the pleasant opportunity to have fun and dance in the local nightclubs. Among them, the crowded Sky Garden stands out, famous for Bounty foam parties and chosen by DeeJay trance music lovers.

Those who cannot imagine their vacation without visiting large shopping malls will certainly visit Discovery, which houses many shops of international brands. Hardy's has a reputation for cheap clothes, while the Beachwalk has several cafes and a modern cinema. Children, together with caring parents, enjoy relaxing and having fun in Circus or Waterbom - two of the most interesting water parks.

A large number of resorts are concentrated on the island of Bali. Some of them are located right on the coast and have magnificent beaches. Others lurk in the outback of the island and allow you to enjoy a relaxing holiday and see the most interesting places the edges. I propose to consider each resort closer, which will allow you to choose your paradise in Bali.

This is one of the first resorts in Indonesia where tourism began to develop. Even 40 years ago, no one could even imagine that a resort town would arise from a simple fishing village, which tourists would like to visit even from the most remote corners of the globe.

Today, the area has great tourism potential. Numerous hotels of various levels were built here, entertainment venues, catering points, shops, souvenir shops and other infrastructure facilities were opened.

Numerous beaches are suitable for both relaxing and active rest. Many of them are popular among surfers. They will be appreciated even by those for whom surfing is a completely new sport. The main stream of tourists is Australians, which is why many establishments are focused on them.

The central beach is called Kuta Beach, it was from him that the development of the tourism industry began. It is quite wide, the entrance to the sea is gentle, the sand is white. Most of the hotels are aimed at the average tourist, but finding higher-class accommodation is also not difficult.

Legian

One of the most luxurious resorts in Bali. It is located north of Kuta, and its literal name translates as "pleasant" or "delightful". Its picturesque landscapes, pleasant climatic conditions, stunning beaches - all this is guaranteed to give an unforgettable vacation experience.

All the beaches are formed naturally and consist of a gray color that takes on a metallic hue at dawn. The advantage of the resort is that there are no rock formations and coral reefs, so swimming is safe. The entrance to the sea is gentle. There are many surfers here who come from all over the world. You can meet both professional wave conquerors and those who are just starting to master this sport.

Unlike other resorts, Legian has a lower pricing policy for many tourist services. Night entertainment is also presented here, the food system is well developed. Fans of shopping will also be able to find something to their liking. The resort has numerous shops, supermarkets, large department stores.

Jimbaran

The resort is located in the south of the island and is the best place for those who are looking for conditions for a relaxing and secluded pastime. An international airport is located 5 kilometers from it, which allows you to get to hotels in a matter of minutes. The hotel base is represented by a wide variety of options for accommodation. It will not be difficult to find a modest guest house or hostel here. A higher level of comfort and service is offered by 4 or 5 star hotels, which are also plentiful in the resort.

The beaches of Jimbaran are clean, the water is azure, which attracts couples with children. Facilities on the beaches are represented by sun loungers and umbrellas. In numerous cafes and restaurants you can taste delicious seafood dishes, most of which are caught in the local waters. As for surfing, in most cases, beginners come to the resort, as there are no high waves here. The rich underwater world allows you to snorkel. The main attractions of the region are the Uluwatu Temple and the fish market.

Nusa Dua

Looking for a place to stay at the highest level? Then resort Nusa Dua just what you need. It is a closed territory and is intended for foreign tourists. The resort is located in the eastern part of the Bukit peninsula. Almost all hotels are classified as 4 and 5 stars and operate on an all-inclusive basis. A highly developed infrastructure will allow even the most demanding tourists to feel a decent level of comfort. Vacation prices are quite high, so I advise you to book accommodation in advance.

The disadvantage of the resort is that the tides are very noticeable here, in some hotels they even post a schedule so that vacationers know when is the best time to go to the beach.

In the western part of the district there are several cliffs that offer stunning views of the surrounding area. Nusa Dua has a huge number of spas, there are conditions for shopping. As for attractions, there are few of them. But there is always the opportunity to go on excursions to other areas of Bali.

Tanjung Benoa

The resort got its name in honor of a small fishing village, and this is no coincidence, since most of the population of the region is engaged in fishing. Tanjung Benoa is simply amazing with its lush tropical vegetation, picturesque landscapes, as well as its wonderful beach, which consists of the finest light-colored sand.

This is one of the youngest tourist destinations developing rapidly. The central beach of Benoa allows you to enjoy a quiet and relaxing holiday. Such conditions are great for couples with small children. Despite the fact that the resort is not famous for active recreation, you can still meet fans of surfing on the beaches, mostly those who are just starting to master this sport.

Within Tanjung Benoa there are a huge number of catering establishments and bars. Cafes and restaurants serve both national and European dishes. The Kazunoya restaurant deserves special attention. It offers Japanese cuisine.

Sanur

The resort is located in the southeast of the island. Its construction was intended specifically for tourists, which made the area the first resort settlement in Bali. Luxury hotels and highly developed infrastructure have made it an ideal place for elite vacation. Mostly people come here with small children and those who are looking for beaches for a relaxing and secluded holiday.

The resort's beach bears the same name and stretches along the coast for 5 kilometers. A stone path is laid out along it, which allows you to enjoy walking or cycling. Due to the fact that a coral reef runs close to the coast, the sea here almost always remains calm. The entrance to the water is gentle, there are no poisonous algae and dangerous jellyfish. Fans of outdoor activities will appreciate diving. In addition, there is the opportunity to learn windsurfing or kiteboarding. Among the sights, it is worth highlighting the Le Mayer Museum, the temple of Pura Blanjong, the mangrove reserve.

Padang Bay

A small resort located in the eastern part of Bali. There is a ferry terminal on its main beach, which makes the coastal part not very attractive for recreation. That is why this place is often used as a transit point from which they go to Lombok.

But few people know that a little further there are several more beaches that are ideal for relaxing. Among them Blue Lagoon, a coral reef originates almost at the very shore, which creates optimal conditions for snorkeling.

The infrastructure of the resort is poorly developed. You won't find here shopping centers, entertainment venues, thanks to which the rest takes on a completely different direction. There are several diving centers on the streets of the resort, and the stunning nature and diversity of the underwater world will give you the most vivid diving experience. For lovers sightseeing holiday several magnificent temples have been preserved, from Padang Bay it is easiest to get to the Batur volcano.

Chandi Dasa

In the southeastern part of Bali is the resort town of Chandi Dasa, which is perfect for lovers of a relaxing holiday and for those who decide to get acquainted with the underwater world indian ocean. From all sides, the area is surrounded by picturesque landscapes, the formation of which was influenced by mountain ranges and endless ocean.

The main hotels, villas and restaurants are located along the road, but the local population lives on the outskirts locality. There are practically no beaches suitable for swimming within the resort. All of them are slightly aloof. That is why tourists almost never come here for a long vacation. Vacationers can stay for a couple of days in order to get acquainted with the sights of the eastern part of the island. Another feature of the resort is the numerous diving schools that organize diving in the most beautiful places region.

Amed

In the east of the island is the resort of Amed with its eponymous beach. This is another amazing place for connoisseurs of solitary pastime. The area is perfect for beach holiday, there are almost never high waves here, which attracts couples with children. The coastal strip is formed by coarse dark sand.

Within the resort, housing of all classes is presented, it will not be difficult to find a budget option or five-star apartments. In addition, villas are offered for rent for more long term.

Near the resort is the Gunung Agung volcano, which is the most high point on the island. For connoisseurs of outdoor activities, trekking routes have been developed along which you can get to its top. Rich underwater world and availability coral reef create conditions for diving and snorkeling.

Lovina

The quiet resort of Lovina is located in the north of Bali. It stretches for 10 kilometers, and its atmosphere is significantly different from that which is inherent in south coast islands. Good infrastructure and interesting sights make the area the most visited in this part of the island. The center of the resort is in the village of Kalibukbuk, where most of the hotels, restaurants and tourist offices.

The beach is wide, its distinctive feature is dark volcanic sand. The bottom is shallow, there are almost never strong waves. The only drawback is the ebbs and flows. The main entertainment is swimming with dolphins. Around 5-6 o'clock in the morning, dozens of boats go to sea to enjoy the incredible spectacle. And if you walk to the beach after sunset, you can see how the water begins to shine with a silvery blue hue. It's all about nocturnal plankton.

Ubud

If you want to get acquainted with the Balinese culture and at the same time enjoy the picturesque tropical landscapes, then the Ubud resort is what you need. The area attracts with its calm exotic atmosphere. The infrastructure is well developed here: there are numerous shops, yoga schools, spas and much more. The only thing missing in the area are the beaches. All of them are located at a decent distance.

The hotel fund is represented by hotels of different levels. It will not be difficult to find worthy 5-star apartments for yourself here. Near the resort there is a huge number of attractions, which will diversify your leisure time and create an individual recreation program.

Resorts and beaches of Bali on the map

The best holiday resorts in Bali

Not so long ago Kuta was favorite place hippie habitat, now it is the most famous and busy resort Bali. It is conveniently located (close to the airport), with developed infrastructure and good sandy beaches. Kuta has a water park, and 20 km from the resort is famous temple Tanah Lot, majestically towering over the ocean.

Relaxing on the beach in Kuta is perfect for young people who lead an active lifestyle and come to Bali for the sake of surfing. The spots are suitable for beginners - the waves are medium in size, there are no dangerous reefs and rocks. During the day it is very crowded on the beaches, merchants constantly pester tourists, imposing their goods and services, at night life is in full swing in bars and clubs.

Legian is located 2 km from Kuta. It is a little quieter there, this is a good place for young and cheerful people who prefer to relax on the beach during the day and go to noisy Kuta at night. Behind Legian is the resort of Seminyak. These three resorts are literally adjacent to each other, forming a single resort area. And if Kuta and Legian offer housing at affordable prices, then Seminyak is focused on golden youth. There are located expensive hotels and restaurants, and the rest is supposed to be lazy and serene, as it should be for VIP tourists.

Jimbaran

A small village where the local population earns mainly from fishing. One part of Jimbaran beach is occupied by fishing gear and boats. The other is coastal restaurants where you can try fresh seafood (they are considered the best in Bali), and expensive 5 * hotels. At the resort good places for diving and snorkeling, but only wealthy people can afford to rest here - the prices are high. You can safely swim in the southern part of the beach, protected by a cape.

Nusa Dua

Once there were mangroves here, now it is one of the best places where you can relax on the island of Bali. Nusa Dua has all the conditions for a relaxing holiday: luxury hotels, golf courses, tennis courts and bike paths.

Nusa Dua is the only resort in Bali where the beaches are closed to the locals, but its isolation does not allow you to get acquainted with the unique culture of the island. There are no sights in Nusa Dua - in fact, this is a street along which hotels, cafes and tour desks are located. If you arrived on a package tour and want only a beach holiday, then the resort will suit you. If you want to get acquainted with the culture of the island, it is better to choose another resort in Bali, for example, Ubud.

Housing and food prices in Nusa Dua are much higher than in other parts of the island.

Tanjung Benoa

This developing quiet resort, which has arisen on the site of a fishing village, is located near Nusa Dua. It differs from its fashionable neighbor by the presence of 3-4 * hotels and loyal prices for holidays. Here beautiful beaches and international population. Different world religions coexist in Tanjung Benoa, which is confirmed by temples and mosques located next to each other.

During the day, vacationers go water skiing, surfing, snorkeling and parachuting, and in the evening they dine in one of the restaurants. Loyal pricing policy attracts newlyweds and couples who crave solitude.

Sanur

This is the island's oldest resort, and the developed infrastructure makes it one of the best places to relax in Bali: there are hotels of different price categories, cafes and shops, and many well-groomed tropical gardens. Rest is cheaper than in the decent resort of Nusa Dua, but more expensive than in noisy Kuta. Most often, families with children rest here, as the coast is gentle, and active people - calm water favors snorkeling and diving. And cons - at low tide, the water goes very far.

Sanur has ancient temples, a museum of the artist Adrien de Merpres and a large entertainment center with water slides and attractions. Bali's volcanoes and hot springs are easily accessible from Sanur, and there is an island with giant turtles not far from the resort.

Ubud is the cultural capital of the island and the best place for those who are eager to get acquainted with the customs and traditions of Bali. The city is located among the tropical forests in the highlands of Bali. There are no beaches, nightclubs and bars here, but there are many temples, souvenir shops and restaurants. Accommodation prices are affordable for any tourist.

The city has many museums, craft workshops and art galleries, where international exhibitions are held periodically. You can regularly see performances with Balinese dances and musical concerts.

In the shops you can buy handmade souvenirs. This city is remote from the coast, but it is excellent for walking and cycling. Picturesque landscapes of the surroundings - rice terraces, green hills, tropical forests and rivers. There is the famous Monkey Forest.

The best beaches in Bali for swimming

Bali features are standing waves. They are found in most places, making swimming difficult. The exception is regarding calm beaches Nusa Dua and Sanur, but they also have their drawback - the ebbs and flows, because of which vacationers have to stick to the schedule. When the ocean recedes, algae and other debris remain on the sand, and the water level is knee-deep. When choosing a place where you will relax in Bali, pay attention to the beach and read the reviews of tourists.

  • In Sanur the beaches are wide and long, with shallow water off the coast. To swim an adult, you need to move a few tens of meters, but children can swim perfectly.
  • Beach Tanjung Benoa spacious and clean, with fine white sand, but the same problem with low tide as in Nusa Dua.
  • Gorgeous sandy beach in Bali can be found in Jimbaran. It is located in a small bay, shallow near the shore, the water is quite clean and calm, which makes it safe for children to swim.
  • Good for swimming in Bali beach Padang-Padang. It's crystal clear here pure water, there are almost no strong waves near the coast. Surfers always go further away to ride, so you don't have to worry about sudden board blows.
  • Quite an unusual beach Pandava- perfectly clean with white sand and calm water. On the outskirts of it there are several caves where you can take pictures, and cafes stretch along the beach, you can also rent a kayak or lie on a sun lounger.
  • glamorous beach Dreamland- one of the few bounty beaches in Bali. It is quite popular among tourists, but the waves here are high, and not everyone can swim.

The best beaches in Bali for surfing

The vast majority of Bali's surf spots are located in the south of the island within a radius of several kilometers from Kuta. In the dry season, there is always the right wave here, so safe swimming is possible only in the evening, when the waves subside, and most of the athletes migrate to drinking establishments. On Bali beaches like Legian and Seminyak, there are fewer surfers, but strong waves do little to encourage swimming. The waves are even higher in Canggu and Uluwatu. These beaches are popular with experienced surfers.

In conclusion, it is worth noting that each resort and beach of the island is beautiful in its own way, and only after visiting all its corners, you can determine for yourself where it is best to relax in Bali.

It is better to learn to surf in Kuta: after the collapse of the wave, a dense foam forms, on which you can learn to stand on the board (Photo © unsplash.com / @marcuslofvenberg)
