Every greek island good in its own way and has its own unique features and highlights. Corfu, the main island of the Ionian Islands, also has its own unique face. What attracts and amazes tourists in Corfu? Let's look at 5 main features of a holiday on this island.

1. Features of nature and resort villages

Of all the Ionian islands, Corfu is the northernmost. Its length is 64 km, width – 32 km. Length coastline– almost 218 kilometers. In the north the island is very mountainous, and the southern part is lowland. Thus, the north of the island can be considered more picturesque. The entire island is surrounded by olive and citrus groves. There are also enough coniferous trees in Corfu, but, frankly, there are not as many of them as, for example, in Thassos.

For those who want to feel the flavor of this island without leaving home, we recommend reading Gerald Durrell’s excellent book “My Family and Other Animals,” dedicated to the life of the writer and his family in Corfu. Well, for those who decide to personally see the beauty and uniqueness of Corfu nature, we remind you that this year the charter from Minsk flies throughout the entire season, from June 4 to September 27, the duration of the vacation is 10, 11 days, tour operators consolidate the programs “ Aerotravel and Canulas Travel.

Attention! One of the main features of Corfu is that due to the cold currents on west coast the water is a little colder than in the east. This does not mean that you or your children will be uncomfortable swimming in Paleokastritsa, but the magnificent color of the local water will, so to speak, invigorate. You need to be prepared for this. However, you also need to prepare for warm, almost “steamy” water on east coast islands.

Resorts in Corfu are scattered along the entire coast. The villages of the eastern part of the island have developed infrastructure and a rich nightlife(eg Gouvia). Here are the most prestigious resorts islands, among which we can highlight, perhaps, Kommeno.

The northeast and south are suitable for a family holiday surrounded by nature. Benitses and Kanoni are famous for their shallow waters and calm seas, Kavos for its long beach.

The pearl of the west coast – Paleokastritsa – is suitable for lovers of active recreation. By all accounts, this resort has one of the best beaches in Corfu.

In terms of the richness of its historical heritage, Corfu can be compared with the island of Crete, also offered for flights from Minsk.

This is largely due to the fact that the picturesque and rich island in different times was influenced by various cultures and, as a result, absorbed all the best civilizational achievements of mankind.

Just a little bit of history.

In 395 the island joined the Roman Empire, and then it belonged to the Byzantines. In the 13th century, the Venetians came to power. They ruled the island until the 18th century, so the influence of the Venetians on music, language and cuisine is noticeable in Corfu to this day. The long-ruling Venetians were replaced by the French, who, however, were ousted after a short time by the Russian fleet under the command of Ushakov. And not for long either. In 1807, as a result of the war between Russia and Turkey, the Ionian Islands were given to France, but after the fall of Napoleon, the archipelago fell under the protectorate of England. Only by 1864 did the reunification of Corfu with Greece become possible.

It is well known that on small islands the best way to get acquainted with nature and attractions is to travel around everything yourself in a rented car with a good map and quality guidebooks in hand. But if you have to choose among the teams excursion tours, then we recommend choosing the following options:

Classical sightseeing tour in Corfu

This route starts at the Achilleion Palace. The palace was built specifically for the Empress of Austria, Elizabeth of Habsburg. Having visited Corfu for the first time, the Empress was amazed at the beauty of these places; on her orders, an elegant and magnificent palace, decorated with sculptures of Achilles. This elegant building with its magnificent gardens and interiors is today the main attraction of Corfu.

Next, the route leads tourists to a distillery, where all products are made exclusively from kumquat - a dwarf bitter orange - another local attraction. By the way, kumquat grows only in Corfu and in some places in China.

After this, travelers go to Paleokastritsa, famous for its magnificent landscapes and the extraordinary beauty of the water in the bay. You can go for a walk through the grottoes or simply enjoy lunch in a Greek tavern with magnificent views of the surrounding landscapes.

Excursion to the islands of Paxos and Antipaxos

This trip to two charming Greek islands takes place on board a comfortable yacht. The first island to be visited is Paxos, where time seems to have stopped. The air filled with heady aromas, ancient fishing boats, snow-white beaches, colorful streets and, of course, wonderful taverns. After traveling to the first island, you will go on a boat tour to Antipaxos. The main tourist attraction of this island is the rich turquoise color of the water. You probably won’t see this anywhere in the area. Overall, the excursion will appeal to those who want to enjoy wonderful nature, excellent swimming and delicious Greek cuisine.

Sightseeing tour of Kerkyra

The excursion begins in the Old Port, on a magnificent glass-bottom yacht called Calypso. Tourists admire deep sea through the transparent bottom of the yacht, and also watch a performance performed by Navy SEALs under the guidance of professional trainers.

The further path lies to the Kanoni Peninsula, which is located four kilometers from Corfu-Kerkyra. This peninsula offers magnificent views of the Blachernae Monastery and the Pondikonisi Islands. Then tourists walk around the capital itself, which has many amazing sights. They see Old fortress, which was built by both the Byzantines and Venetians in their time, as a result it makes a fantastic impression.

Further on, travelers will see the famous Spianada Square, New fortress, the Museum of Oriental Art, the former residence of the King of Greece and the Church of St. Spyridon, where the relics of the saint are kept in a special sarcophagus decorated with precious stones. Well, and, of course, the highlight of being in the capital is a walk along Liston Street, which is similar to the Parisian Rivoli.

3. Beaches and resorts in Corfu

Local beaches are, as they say, a separate “song”. Each coast deserves special close attention. There are a great many beaches in Corfu, as well as resort villages; we will dwell on some of them.

Beaches and resorts on the east coast:

Kontokali (Kondokali). Located in a lagoon sheltered from the winds. This sea harbor once belonged to the Venetians, but now the place is chosen by yachtsmen. The resort has many shops, bars, small cafes, taverns and restaurants. The beaches are pebble, with perfectly clear water.

Barbati. The picturesque resort of Barbati is located at the foot of Mount Pantokrator. There is a real idyll here - beautiful bays, olive and pine forests. Nearby you can find the charming fishing village of Nissaki.

Gouvia (Gouvia). Conventionally considered a youth resort, the most party place on the island. There are a huge number of bars, family taverns, good restaurants and clubs.

Dassia (Dasya). The magnificent sandy and pebble beaches of Dassia are attractive for families. Here olive and coniferous trees approach the shore. Dasier has a well-developed tourist infrastructure; on the beach you can rent catamarans, boats and go water skiing.

Ipsos. This resort village with a big beach. What gives this place a special charm is mountain range Pantocrator covered olive trees on the lower slopes.

Nissaki. A charming, quiet fishing village with small pebble beaches. Suitable for families with children.

Perama. The village with a large beach is located in close proximity to the city of Corfu. Between the villages of Perama and Benitses there is a tourist area with hotels, taverns and night bars.

Benitses (Benitses). This is an ancient town in a picturesque harbor with green hills covered with citrus and olive trees. Vacationers can enjoy: bars, clubs, taverns and shops.

Messonghi and Moraitika. The villages are famous for their sandy beaches and shallow sea, which makes these resorts popular among families with children. At the same time a great offer water activities, taverns and restaurants, a fun nightlife attracts young people to these places.

West Coast Beaches and Resorts:

Acharavi (Acharavi). Acharavi – Big City in the north of the island, there is a wonderful beach for families with children, and restaurants and nightclubs for young people.

Rhoda. A very quiet resort with small bays suitable for a relaxing romantic getaway. The resort has a long beach, almond trees and vineyards.

Paleokastritsa. This is one of the most beautiful places on the island. Paleokastritsa is rocks overgrown with greenery, beautiful bays with cool water and sandy beaches. Paleokastritsa is a mecca for divers. Best beaches in Corfu right here. Not far from Paleokastritsa, on a rock, is the Byzantine fortress of Angelokastro.

Agios Gordis. The village has a wonderful three-kilometer beach and beautiful views.

Sidari. Located 35 km from Kerkyra. One of the most beautiful places in the region is considered to be a sandy canal across the sea, which is called Canal d Amour (canals of love). From Sidari you can travel to the coast of Peroulades to the famous village of Avliotes, as well as to the village of Agios Stefanos with a secluded cape with a lighthouse.

Pelekas. Located next to the beautiful beaches of the western part of the island, from the village the road leads to the top of the hill from which you can see panoramic view to the sea and the central part of the island. Pelekas is home to one of the observation platforms island (Kaiser's Throne), from which it is delightful to watch the sunset.

Glyfada. According to many experts, Corfu's best and longest sandy beach with shallow water. The beach is ideal for a family holiday.

4. Corfu holiday style and cuisine

Don't look for a very wild party in Corfu! The island is for lovers of a refined, high-quality, experience-rich holiday. The ideal option for spending time in Corfu is to rent a car and independently explore the picturesque beaches and colorful villages on the island. Renting a car in Corfu will cost about 60 euros per day. The roads on the island are good; traffic here is very slow, the average speed is 40–50 kilometers per hour.

There are two classic cuisines in Corfu: Italian and Greek. Seafood dishes are also excellent here.

5. Iconic hotels

Everything is more than fine with hotels on the island. There are apartments, mid-price hotels, and, of course, magnificent five-star hotels.

Of the most popular “fives”, perhaps, Grecotel Corfu Imperial 5* should be noted. The hotel is located on a small peninsula - thanks to this convenient location, almost all rooms and bungalows of the hotel have sea views. It is surrounded by greenery.

In this regard, Grecotel Eva Palace 5* is in no way inferior to it. This hotel positions itself as a place for a romantic getaway: families with small children are accepted here only in high season; in all other months, only couples relax here.

From the category of slightly more democratic “fives”, we recommend paying attention to Kontokali Bay Resort& Spa and Grand Mediterraneo

Among the four-star hotels, the hotels of the Aquis chain enjoy an excellent reputation. Aquis Sandy Hotel Beach Resort 4* located in great location– Agios Georgis. Externally it is absolutely simple, but located on one of the most beautiful beaches Mediterranean Sea. The white water here is completely unusual, since at the bottom there is a white slab with waves of washed-up sand. The entrance to the sea is gentle and quite shallow, so the water warms up amazingly. This is a very suitable place for families with children, as the hotel has a mini-club; in addition, it offers all food systems - from breakfast to all inclusive.

One of the most popular three-star hotels on the island is Messonghi Beach 3* - the largest in Corfu. This hotel is good for families with children; it occupies a huge area with a cute little train running through it. There is a beautiful sandy beach and good rooms. The hotel will not leave anyone indifferent, everyone will like it, and it’s also inexpensive. Practices the all-inclusive system.

Expert opinion

Dmitry Platkov, head of the VLP company:

“The north of Corfu is the Adriatic Sea, and since I am, in principle, partial to the Adriatic, I would probably rank this part as one of the most beautiful. This is a truly stunning place in terms of landscapes and relief - so beautiful that it takes your breath away. There is a lot of greenery here, there are grottoes and small islands off the coast - it all looks very impressive. Sidari, famous for its landscapes, is also located here - a place of unique beauty, with the picturesque Canals of Love. The Adriatic has most of the wide sandy beaches, although they can be found throughout the island. But it is the north of Corfu that is famous for its sandy beaches, which in the north-west begin to alternate with powerful rocky outcrops into the sea. The most a nice place in this part of the island there is a place called Paleokastritsa.

The rest of the island, its western and eastern coasts, is the Ionian Sea. It is warmer than the Adriatic, this is a generally accepted fact. On the east coast, north of Corfu Town, there are many beaches on the rocks, and between them there are numerous coves where you can safely enter the sea from the shore. And on the west coast, in the area of Glyfada and Agios Georgis, there are wide, luxurious sandy beaches and dunes. The picturesque Lake Korission is also located here. As in the northwest, in the southeast of the island the beaches can alternate: in one bay there is sand, in the next there are pebbles or a rocky outcrop with beach platforms.

Among the large villages, we can highlight Acharavi in the north, the Paleokastritsa region in the west and, perhaps, Kavos in the south. Everything else is very small, but extremely nice and cozy villages scattered along the coast; there are a lot of them on the island. It is possible that in some village there will be a club that brings together tourists and residents of surrounding villages, or a tavern with live music. But in general, in terms of atmosphere, a holiday in Corfu will be calm, although the hotels here are large and try to offer guests maximum services and good service.

If a client wants entertainment and parties, he needs to settle close to Corfu town in order to be able to go to Liston, the main street of the city, at any time and join the nightlife there. This is the main one Entertainment Center islands, the resorts are much quieter. The exceptions are Sidari and Kavos - two small villages that are very popular among English youth.

Hotels in Kofu are characteristic, each has its own special atmosphere - this is not Spain, where hotels can provide good service and food, but do not have their own identity. In Corfu you will not find faceless hotels, and in this regard I really like them: they cannot be confused with each other. Hotels offer different food systems - breakfast, half board, all inclusive. The latter system is most common in three-star and four-star family hotels. Hotels that are not suitable for families with children offer breakfast and half board.

If a person plans to travel to the northwest coast without children, I would recommend taking only breakfast at hotels. There are many taverns where you can have excellent and inexpensive lunch and dinner. You shouldn’t “lock” yourself within four walls; fortunately, many taverns are located in picturesque places, hanging over the sea or overlooking the monastery.

What’s also very cool about Corfu is that getting to the “floating” monasteries in Meteora from the island is much easier than from Chalkidiki. If you have never been there, I recommend it. On the mainland the road takes a very long time, there are many serpentine sections, but from Corfu you first take a ferry, and then there are only 2 hours left along the new road.

There is also a very interesting excursion program to Italian Bari, also with a ferry ride. The excursion from Corfu includes a tour of Bari and the fabulous Apulian town of Alberobello. It is not cheap - it costs about 300 euros. But the impressions will remain truly unforgettable.”

Probably, every city, and even more so if we are talking about a resort, has its own “branded” places. It is from these sights that you can guess the place and form your own impression of it. There are several such places on Corfu (or the island of Kerkyra, as the Greeks themselves call it). But the main calling card of this place is its gorgeous beaches. In this article you will discover the best beaches in Corfu.

Pebble beaches

For your convenience, we have divided the main beaches of Corfu into two categories: pebble and sand. Some beaches are pebble and sand, this will be discussed separately in the description.

Magnificent Paleokastritsa

If you decide to search the Internet for photos of Corfu beaches, pictures of Cape Paleokastritsa will probably appear in the first place. Many consider this cape to be the most picturesque attraction of the island and tend to go there.

From the capital of the island, Kerkyra, you can get to Paleokastritsa by Green Bus (that’s the name of the bus), the ticket costs a few euros. The journey will take about thirty minutes. Another way to admire the cape is to book a tour of Kerkyra, not a single one tourist group doesn't pass by. However, in this case it is unlikely that you will be able to plunge into the warm sea.

If you go to the beach, be sure to take a mask and fins with you, because the water is clean and the underwater world is rich. Everything around is fragrant with the aromas of the Mediterranean.

Buses come straight to the central beach, and there is also a pier. On it, locals offer a ride on a yacht or boat through grottoes and caves. It seems that there are too many foreign tourists, but most do not make noise and maintain the harmony of this place. Here you will find incredibly picturesque bays. Paleokastritsa has the best beaches in Corfu; on the map you can find the city in the western part of the island.

There is sand mixed with pebbles. The entrance to the water is purely sandy, so special shoes are not needed. Be prepared that the water in June will be cold; it is better to swim later. But at any time of the year, the turquoise transparent sea will not leave you indifferent!

Barbati – fashionable beach

Barbati is a very clean pebble beach with clear water. From the shore you can see Albania, and if you sail further away, you will have a magnificent view of Mount Pantokrator. Anyone can rent sunbeds and umbrellas (there are always enough of them, trestle beds are placed in several rows). There are places to eat on Barbati. You will find both a shower and a toilet here. Despite all the amenities, the place is not crowded. The only exceptions are weekends, when the Greeks want to relax too. If you get tired of the heat, you can walk through the olive grove that separates the coastline from the residential complexes.

In general, Barbati is a “glamorous village”, the best place for parties, where the cream of Greek society come to relieve the burden of fatigue. And if you are looking for beaches on the island of Corfu where you can also hang out, then this is the place for you! There are clubs within walking distance, where you can get a beautiful tan and cool off with a delicious cocktail. If you love music, fun, and the smell of coffee in the air, then you are in the right place.

Modern Agios Gordios

Agios Gordios is comfortably located in the most beautiful bay of Corfu, which can be immediately recognized from the photo. Typical features of the beach are the characteristic rocky terrain and a small rock that seems to be peeking out from the sea. This is the western coast of the island, and is traditionally considered European. There are very few Slavs in the village and by the sea.

Agios Gordios is civilized and there are plenty of places to eat. There are taverns with delicious national cuisine. Moreover, many coastal restaurants and bars offer customers free sun loungers. Even if you don't buy anything, the sun loungers are inexpensive. Two sunbeds with an umbrella cost from 5 euros per day.

If you are wondering where the sandy beaches are in Corfu, you will find part of the answer here. Agios Gordios is quite big, about three kilometers long. There is sand on the shore, but the entrance to the sea is strewn with small pebbles. There are no sharp changes, the approach is smooth, and deep places start 15 meters from the shore. If you search, you might come across wild beach with stunning fine sand not only on the shore, but also in the sea. In general, the place is ideal for relaxation, especially with small children.

Porto Timoni – when the mountains embrace the sea

Porto Timoni is a truly virgin place with lush vegetation and clear sea. In terms of beauty, this is the best beach in Corfu. By public transport You won’t be able to get there: only by rented car, taxi, or on your own. Even if you go by car, on the way to the beach you still have to overcome the descent from the mountain (about a quarter of an hour), and, accordingly, you will have to climb back. We advise you to take a change with you. But the views of Porto Timoni are worth all the effort. Therefore, when you are asked about the most beautiful beaches in Corfu, you will probably talk about Porto Timoni.

Before the descent, you can refresh yourself in a cafe, and head on to the gorgeous pebble coast. To avoid getting lost, look at the signs and look for the words “Double beach”. In general, the name is not entirely true. In fact, there are three beaches, it’s just that getting to the third one is even more difficult than getting to the first two, so there are usually no people there.

When going to any of them, it is advisable to take an umbrella with you, because you will not find shade. The northern beach is windy and the water seems colder. But in southern Porto Timoni there is no wind at all, so there are a lot of wasps. For those who don't want to climb the mountains, there is an option to get to the beach by catamaran or boat.

Bataria – beach with white stones

Bataria is cozy and clean, but the pebbles on it are large. The trestle beds and umbrellas are paid, almost all are laid out on the stones. When entering the water, pebbles can cause trouble: pebbles can injure feet, especially for children. It is better to immediately purchase rubber shoes for swimming.

But the views are simply fantastic: azure water contrasts with white rocks. Wonderful views of nature! The photos come out great. However, there are also disadvantages.

The beach is small, there are a lot of people during the day. The sunbeds provided are uncomfortable, the umbrellas are old and sometimes broken. There is no toilet or shower. There is only a cafe where you can visit the toilet. But there are changing cabins on Bataria. But in terms of transport accessibility no questions, there is parking above the beach.

Rovinia – the beauty of wild nature

Rovinia Beach is a small pebble and rocky beach. Buses do not go here, but you can easily get there by car, boat (sea taxi) or on foot. Parking is available nearby. White pebbles, blue sea, tempting grottoes. The water is crystal clear, there are no algae, it would be a shame not to snorkel and try to catch fish with your hands! The sea is deep.

A secluded place, but still you can’t call it paradise. There is dirt and in terms of landscaping there is something to complain about. There are no sunbeds or umbrellas. In addition, due to the fact that the beach is wild, there are no buoys or restrictions for boats. Everyone can scurry along the shore in a motor boat. Sometimes this creates a danger: people are in the water, and a boat is passing nearby. You never know how it might end.

It’s difficult to find Rovinia Beach without instructions from the locals, because there are no signs. The road to the beach itself is picturesque and runs through olive groves. You can buy food on a small boat that brings snacks and drinks. They sell decent sandwiches, inexpensive beer and iced coffee.

Sandy beaches of Corfu

Those who do not like pebbles, but have chosen Corfu for their holiday, will find good sandy beaches on the island: noisy and secluded, popular and uncrowded.

Agios Georgios – a secluded place to relax

This sandy beach is clean and large. There are inclusions of pebbles at the entrance to the water. There are usually few people here.

Employees of hotels, shops and tourist shops do not know Russian words at all. Our compatriots usually vacation on the east coast, and we offer tours there.

You can get to Agios Georgios at any time of the day or night by taxi, in about twenty minutes. Corfu is all serpentines and rocks, so if you have a phobia of heights, you may feel uncomfortable.

The entry into the sea is beautiful, but there can be waves in this part of the island. Although for many this is a plus. Of course, you won’t be able to surf, but you can ride the waves with small children. Dolphins swim past. They sometimes put on their amazing show for vacationers.

The sea is shallow for the next ten meters, then the depth begins. You can always find a shower with fresh water to rinse off.

Less crowded Gardenos

This beach is ideal for a break from the noise popular places on the coast of Corfu. Locals and tourists who live nearby relax here. It is not one of those beaches that people travel to from the other end of Corfu. Gardenas is huge, completely sandy - sand both on the shore and in the sea. The water is warmer than in Paleokastritsa.

If you go there by car, it is better to take umbrellas and blankets with you. Umbrellas conveniently stick into the sand, you can save on rent. Open space, the wind blows almost always.

There are shops and restaurants in front of the beach entrance. There is a shower and changing room. Fish and other marine life can be seen in the water.

On the shore there is a small and simple restaurant with very reasonable prices. You can order takeaway and enjoy your food while looking at the sea from your sun lounger.

Mirtiotissa – no need to be shy

Stunning beach, one of the best and most picturesque in all of Greece. The main part of Myrtiotissa is given over to nudists. Be prepared for this. The beach is modest, cozy, with a sandy, gentle approach to the sea.

A special feature of the beach is its secluded location: you can only get here by rented car or moped. By the way, in order to go down to the sea, you will have to overcome a sharp descent, and a scooter with a weak engine may then not be able to climb up. Umbrellas here are surprisingly free, they are handed out to everyone at the entrance, but you have to pay for the opportunity to lie on a sun lounger.

This is one of the nicest resorts in Corfu with sandy beaches. There is a bar with drinks and snacks, and a restaurant along the road. Due to its specificity, Myrtiotissa is often visited by tourists from Western Europe and representatives of sexual minorities. However, there are many families with children.

Another wonderful beach is Paradise. In translation - " paradise beach" Tourists love it for its soft sand, convenient access to the sea and clean water. In addition, the beach is very exotic and secluded.

It is important that you cannot get there by land; you will only have to get there by sea.

If you are arriving by boat, remember that it is forbidden to land on the shore. However, if there are no people on Paradise, an exception can be made.

According to the rules, you need to anchor at a distance of fifty meters and swim there, like Robinson Crusoe. This means that you won’t be able to take anything with you. The most best time for mooring - early morning. A taxi boat will cost fifteen euros for each passenger, and renting the entire boat for a day will cost about 80 euros. It’s convenient to moor, you can plan your time as you want.

The left side of Paradise beach is more “civilized” and gently sloping: there are sun loungers and umbrellas. The right half is deserted, there are large stones in the sea. In general, the beach is long and generally pleasing to the eye, but if you want to explore the shore better, take shoes with you for walking on the rocks. Sheer snow-white cliffs, dense greenery, a long narrow strip of coastline - your heart will forever remain here!

Marathias

Wide clean sandy beach with a pleasant entry into the sea. It is easy to get here by car or scooter. There are few tourists here, it is quiet and cozy. From visitors most of Greeks, and almost no Slavs. Clear water with occasional small waves and wind. The depth near the shore is shallow, so Marathias is suitable for both small children and old people.

A huge space where you can play beach games or just sunbathe. Almost everyone praises the stunning “golden” sand of Marathias. There are plenty of bars and restaurants here. Relaxing music is often played. Overall a fantastic beach for all ages and safe for children. A sunbed with an umbrella can be rented here for 3.

Corfu beaches reviews

Early this morning we went to see the beaches of Corfu.
We drove a rented car to Corfu
Let's go from where we live now - Villa Artemis and go around Corfu counterclockwise.
That is, we are going north along the eastern (north-eastern) coast of Corfu.
I was lazy - having passed from Nissaki before Paleokastritsa- turned home.

The sun shines directly into the camera lens and if I wanted to photograph something, the image would be overexposed.
That’s why I don’t stop: I won’t be able to capture the bays of the northeast that come my way, and there’s nowhere to stop—the roads to Corfu are narrow.

Only once did we go off the road to the beach, my wife read that the beach was famous - Agni(Agni).
I don’t know why it’s famous in tourist guides, but the place is worse than ours Kaminaki and didn’t even bother taking out the camera – just a bay with boats and yachts.
The parking lot is far from the beach.
I didn't want to swim here.

The second beach on our way to the northern coast of Corfu is the beach Kogevina(Kogevina)
This beach is better than Agni.
But it is also inferior to ours.
But there is parking, the entrance is like ours - pebbles.
The water is clear, but there is no highlight.

If you drive a little further along the road, behind the cape in quiet bay there is a shrimp farm.
At first I assumed that oysters are grown here, but then I looked at the shape of the cages in the water - for oysters they are square, like in the photo

Beaches in the north of Corfu

We quietly move to north coast Corfu.
You can feel the difference: the beaches here are like the shores of some estuary or swamp.
The shore is dirty in color and resembles a mixture of clay and earthen sand.

The depth is ankle-deep for tens of meters.
Sand sticks to your feet and is difficult to wash off.
The tactile impressions from contact are unpleasant.

I cross out the beaches in the north of Corfu from the places on the island that are pleasing to the eye.
I don’t like places where hotels, package tourists, and souvenir shops gather.
These are the beaches: Kalamaki(Kalamaki) and Seki(Seki)

Beaches Sidari(Sidari) - muddy water, dirty sand, stinks of rot, a lot of sunbeds and hotels.
The depth of the sea can be seen in the photo.
Right Love Channel(Canal d'Amur).

Something like something pulled out of thin air: a shallow ravine cut through thicker fossilized clay.
They say that if you swim along this canal, all the women will be yours.

It’s true - I would really like this, but I had absolutely no desire to swim in this puddle.
This attraction can be crossed out from your plans for visiting places in Corfu.

Cape Drastis

Next stop: Cape Drastisnorthern point islands of Corfu.
Don’t park your car where everyone else is doing it - drive further along the country road, why walk in the heat?
We didn’t go to the cape itself - I let it go there: I took a photo and video without entrance ticket at 10 euros.
The place is beautiful - I recommend it.

Further along the road we stopped at the beach Loggas(Loggas)
This is not a swimming beach, although you can go down.
Better go to a bar Panorama and take a selfie on the glass canopy over the abyss.
To your right there will be a steep bank of petrified clay.
You can see this and take a photo - see the map above.

Beaches in west Corfu

We are already driving along the western coast of Corfu and after Arila beach we stop at the beach further south Agio Georgios Pagon.
Here we finally took a swim.
The water is clean, but icy. This is a feature of Corfu - on the west coast the water is much colder than on the east - there are cold currents.
On the shore of the beach there is coarse yellow sand, the entrance to the sea is deep, small pebbles at the bottom.

3 beaches were promised in secluded bays.
In reality it’s like this: there are probably beaches there, but you have to leave your car somewhere in a village on a mountain and walk about 20 minutes to get to these beaches.

All around there are signs on the asphalt No parking, no public parking was found.
Besides, walking under the scorching sun is not our method.
I didn’t send the drone there either. No photo.
Let's go further south - to Paleokastritsa

Beaches of Paleokastritsa

Paleokastritsa is a very beautiful place - in this place the coast is gnawed by numerous coves, some of which are privatized by hotels or bars.
There are several public beaches in Paleokastritsa - the port can serve as a landmark.
There is ample public parking. But there are a lot of people. After our cozy and small beach in the northeast, it’s uncomfortable here.

Organized tourists are brought to one of the public beaches of Paleokastritsa by bus - like an excursion. Perhaps someone will understand my horror at this. Nevertheless, people enjoy the sea: they swim, take selfies and photo shoots with mermaids

Conclusions about best place It’s too early to make a holiday in Corfu - we have one more day here before the trip to Albania, but I correctly guessed the current place, which I advise you to do.
Northeast Corfu from the beach Barbati in the south to Kalami in the north of the Corfu Riviera.

Video from our beach

Beaches of the west coast south of Paleokastritsa

We had time to see several beaches south of Paleokastritsa:
Ermones Beach shared by two taverns and a hotel.
The beach is small and quite cozy.

There are small pebbles on the shore, the entrance to the water is good and comfortable.
The water is clear, there are no waves. The best time to swim here is in the evening when the water is warm. The bottom is hard sand.

If you move to the right side of the beach, then further along the shore there is a narrow path and you can park your car and walk to the bay with a secret beach.
There are nudists.

Myrtiotissa Beach

This is a very beautiful beach with very difficult parking.
If you're lucky, you'll find a place to park your car below.
Otherwise, you will have to smoke tires on a steep climb and park at a tavern or on the side of the road, and then walk up and down on foot.

The beach is small and consists of several islands of yellow sand.
There are no waves. Entering the water is very comfortable.
The water is clear as a tear. The place was chosen by nudists, but they cluster around the edges and do not interfere with life.

Glyfada Beach
I don't like him in the picture, so I took a photo of him from above.
Nothing special and a lot of people.

Pelekas Beach
This is terrible.
Look at the photo:

That's all. All beaches are marked on the map - you can use it for navigation.

) – in the Ionian Sea it ranks second in size.
Despite the large number of interesting attractions, the island has another feature that attracts tourists from all over the world - a large number of beautiful beaches.

Greek beaches, including the beaches of Corfu, are the best in all of Europe. There are quite a lot of beaches along the island with clean coastline and water.

In every town of Corfu you can find an exotic bay, and the most modern hotels are located on the coast. The island's infrastructure is very well developed, so entertainment is varied, as are water sports.

In the east of Corfu, tourists can find many coves that are isolated.

And the trees approach the beach itself. This area is considered the busiest; it is here that the elite residential area of Kommeno and the largest village of Dassia are located. It is noteworthy that the infrastructure here is most developed.

  • Dassia
This is a place where you can find both sandy and pebble beaches. They are well-groomed, well-equipped and cozy. The beaches of Dassia are ideal comfortable stay for the whole family. Despite the fact that the prices are high, there is plenty of entertainment for all tastes. Restaurants, taverns, concerts, exciting water sports and much more interesting entertainment includes a village. This is a great place for walkers too. Dassia is located 11 km from Corfu town. And you can get there from the city on blue buses that travel every 30 minutes. But, as a resident of Corfu said: “It’s cheaper and easier to get to your desired holiday destination by car or taxi throughout the island.”

  • Ipsos
Pebble beach, which is quite long. It is unlikely that you will be able to relax here with your family, as this is one of the most crowded resorts on the island. This is the place for lovers of bars and nightlife; they won’t be bored. Ipsos is located 14 km from Corfu, near Dassia and Barbati.

  • Nissaki
Beaches with small pebbles, located 22 km from Corfu on the north-eastern coast at the foot of Mount Pantokratoras (Pantokrator). This " small island» is located on the road that leads to Kassiopi. For a quiet family holiday - this is the best perfect place.

  • Gouvia
Most inexpensive resort for active young people. In the past there was a small fishing village here. Now there are picturesque pebble beaches, a small bay, trees that are very close to the water. There are also other campsites, restaurants and small hotels. Gouvia beach is located 8 km from Corfu town. You can get to it either by bus or by car.

Sandy beaches of Corfu

In addition to pebble beaches, Corfu has a lot of sand beaches. In addition to pure white sand, the beaches are famous for their picturesque places and clear sea. The area on the northern coast of Corfu is flat, so the mountains are located quite far away.

    • is a resort that includes 6 beaches: Agia Triada, Ampelaki, Agios Petros, Agios Spyridon, Alipa, Lagrotta and Platakia. This resort is an ideal place for families with children and for diving.

The first ones choose the beaches of Paleokastritsa because there is good sand and a gentle entrance to the sea. The latter prefer to relax at this resort because of the heavily rugged edges of the coast, many bays hidden from the waves and the colorful underwater world. The only completely sandy beach in Paleokastritsa is Agios Spyridon. The rest of the beaches are pebble or sand and pebble. It is convenient to get from Paleokastritsa, both to Corfu and to the beaches anywhere, roads lead in different directions. The resort is located 25 km from Corfu town.

    • Kalamaki (Apraos)– the most popular resort for tourists in Corfu. It is located 40 km from the island between Agios Spyridon and Kassiopi in the northern part. Kalamaki Beach is Sandy shore one and a half kilometers long and 33 meters wide. Due to its shallow depth, the beach is suitable for families with very small children. From Kassiopi you can get to this beach by cruise every morning. This beach has been awarded the Blue Flag awarded annually by the European Union for its crystal clear beach and water.

    • Rhoda– the beach is 40 km from Corfu town, next to the beaches of Acharavi and Sidari. Since the beach is shallow and sandy, families with children often relax here. • Acharavi is a resort that is open all year round. Tourist area its very lively. Acharavi also includes Almiros Beach, which is located 2 km away. The beaches are quite similar to each other. This is a sandy beach, taverns, sun loungers, which are located next to the beach. Green buses regularly go to Acharavi from Corfu. You can also get there by car.

    • - This is another beach marked by the European Union as the cleanest. It is located 16 km from the city of Kerkyra on the west coast. The beach itself is located at the foot of the hill in the village of Pelekas. Beach strip both in length and width large, with amazing beauty green centuries-old trees and golden sand. The beach is loved by both couples and young people. The first pleasant factor here is the presence of clean and soft sand and shallow water, and the second is the annual BeachParty. You can fly to Glyfada directly from Moscow in 3.5 hours.

    • – the beaches are located 20 km from the capital. These are the villages from which you can see gorgeous view to the sand beach, 4 km long. On the coast of Moraitiki Messonghi beach pure water and secluded coves, clean sand. The beach is crowded, the infrastructure is very well developed. The holiday will be interesting for lovers of water sports. Next to the beach you can fish in the nearby river, which flows into the sea. The river is a kind of border between the villages of Messonghi and Moraitika.

    • Agios Georgios (Pagos)– the resort is located 30 km from Corfu. Here, even in summer, the sea water is cold. The beach itself is a fairly long sandy coastline. The northern part of the beach is favored by nudists. Here, like nowhere else, is there such an opportunity to bask in the sun for 14 hours in a row. The afternoon breeze is a good companion for surfers. All types are relevant here active species sports acceptable on the seas. In addition to recreation for young people. Pagos Beach will also be interesting for families.

    • Paradise Beach– one of the few beaches where it is impossible to get to from the shore. To visit this beautiful beach You need to hire a taxi boat in the closest Liapades or Paleokastritsa. Unusually shaped rocks White sand and privacy on a 1 km long beach is real paradise for tourists who want to be alone. The main thing is to agree on returning to the island with the boatman.

    • How to get to Corfu?

There are several ways to get to the island of Corfu:

By plane: There are no regular direct flights to Corfu. Only in summer there are charters from Moscow. In winter, it is only possible to get there by changing trains in Athens. From the center of Corfu, a few minutes walk is located international Airport Kerkyra.

By ferry: There are regular ferries from Patras and Igoumenitsa. Corfu can be reached by water from Brindisi, Ancona and Venice.

The most practical way to get around the island is by car. Therefore, it may be better to take care of renting a car in advance. If it is not possible to rent in advance, then doing it directly on site will not be difficult.

What to take with you to the beach?

When going on vacation to the island of Corfu, there is no need to take special things with you.

    The annual temperature averages 22°C.

This temperature is quite comfortable for tourists. In summer, the thermometer shows no higher than 32°C and no lower than 20°C.

The most necessary things will be:

    • Sunglasses, hat, jacket for night walks.

    • But when packing your suitcase, pay attention to medications tailored to your needs. Medications for heart and blood pressure problems may be helpful. Although it is quite possible to purchase all medications locally, even without a prescription.

    • Greece in general is a country where wind can be quite strong and frequent. This is why you may need a moisturizer for long excursions in Corfu. It will prevent chapping and its consequences - peeling and redness. You can also put chapstick in your suitcase.

    • Cosmetics for women will be more likely to be unnecessary, as they can “float”. A mattifying cream would be more practical.

    • Sunscreen with a protection level of 30-35 is also useful before going to the beach.

    • You don’t have to take family care cosmetics (creams, gels, scrubs, deodorants) - you can buy them on the island. Everything is at reasonable prices and of excellent quality, made from natural ingredients, in particular olive oil. The only thing that may come in handy is shampoo or conditioner to soften your hair, since the water on the island is hard.

    • There are a lot of mosquitoes on the island, so it would be a good idea to stock up on insect repellent. Although, as I said local: “Corfu has a humid subtropical climate, which is why there are a lot of mosquitoes. You can buy remedies for them on the spot or take them with you. There are no midges on the island. But in September, wasps already appear during the grape harvest.”

What should a child take to Corfu? The set of things for children is the same as for any other holiday at sea. Warm clothes, sunscreen and, of course, swimming gear may come in handy.

Remember that you should not take a lot of luggage to Corfu. This way you can limit your movement. Indeed, in addition to beautiful beaches, the island has a lot of architectural and natural attractions.

Even if you are not going to make excursions, believe that when you arrive at the place, you will certainly have such a desire.
