All Alpine resorts can be divided into several groups. It is clear that this division is arbitrary, since everyone has their own selection criteria (for some, for example, only nightclubs are important).

Mountain resorts- some of them are also historical. Vivid examples of such resorts are the French Chamonix or the Swiss Saas-Fee. Such resorts in summer are the abode of climbers and tourists from all over the world. Thermal spas- such as Leukerbad in Switzerland or Bad Gastein in Austria. Of course, such resorts also have rich history, since they originated as “mountain water resorts” at a time when alpine skiing had not yet been heard of. “Pure” ski resorts with piste skiing- in many cases these are mountain villages or towns, next to which there are slopes suitable for mass skiing. And the more slopes there are, the more intensively such resorts developed. Such are, for example, the Austrian Schladming and resorts near Innsbruck or the Italian Cortina d'Ampezzo. But next to freeride resorts There may be few prepared slopes and pistes, but the opportunities for off-piste skiing are enormous. In fact, there are very few such resorts; only the French La Grave is widely known. Much more resorts like San Anton, where there are many pistes and off-piste skiing with convenient access to the slopes is simply gorgeous. And there is more small towns and villages with several highways. There are many such resorts, and their names may not even be mentioned on the Russian Internet! And do you know why? There is simply no place there for Russian lovers of skiing and snowboarding. No, don’t think that they don’t like us in such places - on the contrary, we have been convinced of this more than once from our own experience: hospitable hosts, a warm welcome, an invitation to dinner, a sincere interest in the people of Russia - everything is excellent. It’s wonderful to relax and ski here.

The fact is that such regions are simply not interesting to our tour operators - their services local residents are not needed, since all the sleeping places are during the peak season - Christmas and New Year, and without intermediaries they sell like hot cakes; the lion's share of vacationers here are residents of the same country.

What attracts European skiers to such places? After all, there are no hundreds of kilometers of pistes, no glaciers, no ultra-modern, ultra-fast ski lifts, no large and loud bars and discos, no streets with shops - none of what is valued by many lovers of winter recreation in the mountains.

Most likely, such cozy places attract many skiers with the opportunity have a relaxing holiday with children or friends in a not too crowded place. Fifty to one hundred kilometers of calm (mostly “blue” and “red”) trails are enough to have a great winter holiday. As elsewhere in the Alps, these resorts offer ice skating and cross-country skiing, training slopes, toboggan or sled runs, and snowshoeing. And there is always some kind of highlight that is characteristic of this particular place - a hunting trail for those who hunt with a bow and arrow, or a unique ski pass, a spa center or a local attraction, a cheese factory or old castle

Our story is about several such resorts.

There are two connected ski areas - Helm (Monte Elmo) and Rotwand (Croda Rossa), with a total length of pistes in the two regions of 93 km. Of course, there are training tracks and slopes, but this region is mainly for skiers and good skiers - wherever you can go to the very bottom (and there are three such places), lower routes- black. I’m being cunning: in one place the black one goes around the blue one. But with such excellent snow conditions, blacks do not pose any difficulties even for intermediate skiers. In the morning it is better to ride on Helm - it is sunny here, and in the afternoon or coffee - on Rotwand.

There is no freeride in Sesto at all; the main charm of this region, like many other small resorts, is high-speed skiing on trails laid in a dense coniferous forest.

There are few people in the entire region, and the trails are prepared just perfectly. It seemed to us that, unlike other small regions, Sesto has more red and black slopes. Moreover, on Rotwand - Croda Rossa there is officially the steepest track in Italy. Steep, tough, smooth, deserted - for lovers of such trails it’s just a treat.

In the village next to Sesto - Moos (1 km by ski bus), the Sport Kurhotel Bad Moos has a wonderful spa complex with wellness specialists, saunas and other amenities. Prices by Moscow standards are very soft. You just need to take into account that specialists in massage, stones, hay, etc., begin work around 1 pm, and you need to sign up in advance. From this hotel to the track and the ski lift are 10 meters.

In Sesto itself there is a small cheese factory with a store - if you like the freshest and very tasty cheese, you should definitely visit it. There is a long toboggan run right along the ski slopes - take a ride, it's really cool.

Prices in the region are relatively low. The fact is that Sesto is not only a little-known resort, but also a kind of “disputed” territory since the First World War, so the Italian authorities do not raise issues of tighter taxation.

You can get here by train, although the logistics will not be too simple (transfers and travel time). It's better to rent a car.

Monte Rosa, Aosta Valley, Italy

In fact, there are three valleys in this region - Gressoney, Alagna-Valsesia and Ayas, which are connected by routes with a total length of about 150 km. There are small towns (more like villages) in all three valleys. In the Ayas Valley there is the town of Champoluc, in Gressoney - Gressoney Saint Jean, Gressoney la Trinite and Stafal, in Alanya - Alanya.

It's very beautiful up there. The Monte Rosa massif consists of four thousand meters, and the panoramas from the upper lift stations offer magnificent views. But the main thing is skating. In addition to pistes of all difficulty levels, there is excellent off-piste skiing, and in many places you can ski parallel to prepared pistes, which is very convenient for a group of friends with different skiing levels.

Another highlight of Monte Rosa - with the exception of the Italian period New Year holidays, here the slopes are almost empty, but fresh off-piste snow is “painted” in a few days, and not hours, as at famous resorts. There is even heli-skiing (based in the Ayas Valley), which is very rare in Europe. This area is prone to avalanches, so you need to be especially careful when skiing off-piste.

In terms of difficulty of skiing, Alanya is in first place, skiing on the slopes of the Gressoney Valley is somewhat easier (and more varied), and the most comfortable slopes are in Ayas. Regarding accommodation, the opposite is true: the largest selection of après-ski, restaurants and children's schools is in Champoluc, there is a storage room under the ski lift here - a “deposit” - you leave your skis and boots to dry. The choice of restaurants and bars in Gressoney and Alanya is limited, the towns are small. But in Gressoney la Trinite, skiing is “from the door”. Saint Jean is located further down the valley; you will have to take a bus to get to the ski lift.

The biggest problem here is that there is a chance of going down too late “to the wrong valley”, after which you will have to either use a taxi (which will be expensive) or spend the night in one of the hotels - to get from valley to valley without skis, you need to travel a couple of hundred kilometers.

The closest way to get here is from Turin (just over 100 km). To Champoluc by train to Verres station, to Gressoney to Point Saint Martin station, then in both cases by bus or taxi.

Flachau, Salzburgerland, Austria

A small town at a low altitude. In fact, there are several ski areas connected by buses or trails nearby: Flachau, Flachauwinkl, Radstadt, Altenmarkt, Wagrain, Zauchensee, and any of them can be quickly reached without a car. Each resort has several tens of kilometers of trails, most of which are blue and red. There is a large stash park in Flachauwinkle, as well as parks and serious tracks where World Cup competitions take place. If you wish, you can send your children (or even study yourself) to the school of the famous Hermann Mayer (in Flachau) or the world champion Michael Walchhofer in Zauchensee.

Almost all the trails in this region are laid in the forest and protected from the wind. All resorts are perfectly suited for families with children, but there are no large spa centers here, although some hotels (for example, Zauchensee Central) have swimming pools. So if you want to diversify your skiing with a holiday in a big aquatic center, you will need to go to the Gasteinertal valley (by car - less than an hour).

In the evening you can walk through the tiny village - as everywhere else, shops alternate with bars and restaurants, or take a ride along the toboggan track. And after skiing you can go to Altenmarkt - a nice town that looks like an old resort. Don't miss the cafe here in the center, on the meander main street- The coffee is excellent there.

The easiest way to get here is from Salzburg (you can take the train to Radstadt, and then by taxi or bus), but it’s also not far from Munich.

This secluded ski resort is located 120 km from Innsbruck. Nauders has perfectly prepared pistes for all levels of skiing. What is especially attractive is the wide, perfectly visible ski area in “blue and red colors”, which turns into black high-speed or comfortable amateur slopes. It’s convenient to ride here with children or a group - it’s impossible to get lost.

In addition to wide open trails, there are also picturesque ones, hidden in a coniferous forest, where off-piste skiers also have a place to ride.

As an alternative leisure activity, Nauders has an excellent 8 km long toboggan run. Driving with a group is an unforgettable pleasure, and the children are simply delighted. Nauders is generally perfect for families with children; for the little ones there is a children's area, for those older - interesting park with springboards of varying difficulty. If you wish, you can find a Russian-speaking instructor.

A large restaurant with delicious cuisine and reasonable prices right in the center of the mountain provides free Wi-Fi.

You can live in Nauders itself or nearby towns. The ski area is located at a level of 1,400-2,850 m, but getting to the resort is very comfortable, the road is quite flat, without steep serpentines. We easily got there without chains even in the heaviest snowfall, while, for example, Samnaun, which is only 23 km away, is simply impossible to get there.
