Tram route 22: Bílá Hora - Nádraží Hostivař. Travel time: 1 hour 03 minutes. The interval of movement is 04:02 - 00:57, every 3-10 minutes. Stops of the route along which we will pass:Břevnovský klášter - U Kaštanu - Drinopol - Marjánka - Malovanka - Pohořelec - Brusnice - Pražský hrad - Královský letohrádek - Malostranská - Malostranské náměstí - Hellichova - Újezádá národná.

Well, now, after a short introduction, let's finally go on our fascinating hike through the once capital of the Holy Roman Empire, and nowadays through one of the beer capitals of the world! And as the intelligent Romans said: "So let's have fun!" (lat.Gaudeamus igitur!)

1. RRestaurant "Klášterní šenk" and Břevnov monastery

So, we go by tram line 22 to the stop "Břevnovský klášter". On the territory of the Břevnov Monastery - the oldest monastery in Bohemia, founded in 993 by Prince Boleslav II and the Prague bishop Vojtěch for the Benedictine order, the first drinking establishment of our beer route is located - the beer restaurant Klášterní šenk.

We will enter the monastery through the graceful gate by the German architect Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer, which is decorated with a statue of St. Benedict and the coat of arms of the monastery. The beer restaurant “Klášterní šenk” is located here, on the central alley of the monastery, right between the main gate and the church of the patroness of women in labor, St. Margaret (Kostel sv. Markéty).

In addition to the baked rabbit leg in a creamy sauce, grilled goat cheese with blackberries and ostrich liver (and at absolutely reasonable prices), the monastery restaurant serves craft (craft) beer from the Břevnov brewer St. Vojtěch:

In a brewery, in accordance with Czech brewing tradition, the beer is indicated by the percentage of extract of the initial wort, and not the percentage of ethyl alcohol. In order to find out the amount of alcohol in 100 ml. beer, it is necessary to divide the indicated extract of the initial wort by 2.5. Thus, the “Benedic t IPA 15 °” should have an ethyl alcohol content of 6% by volume. (6 ml. Alcohol per 100 ml. Beer), and for "Benedic t černé 11 °" - 4.4% vol.

After visiting the pub, you can look into the eastern wing of the monastery, where the St. Vojtěch brewery has been located in the building of the former stable since 1720 (the modern brewery opened in 2013). The beer is sold here in bottles on weekdays: 10: 00-17: 00 (lunch 11: 45-12: 30). You can familiarize yourself with the assortment and prices of the brewery. The order must be made by email. mail. For those who are going to get acquainted with the territory of the monastery more closely, let's say that on Saturdays and Sundays, the monastery hosts sightseeing one and a half hour excursions. You will visit the Church of St. Margaret, built according to the project of the father and son of the Dientzenhofers in 1708-1735. (the altarpieces of the temple belong to the brush of Peter Brandl); the 11th century Romanesque crypt and the Baroque prelature building with the Terezin Hall.

Tours run on Saturdays at 10:00 and 14:00, and on Sundays at 11:00 and 14:00. In summer there is an optional excursion on Saturdays and Sundays at 16:00. The entrance ticket is 80 CZK. You can walk around the territory of the monastery without an excursion, but visiting the Church of St. Marketa outside the sightseeing tour is possible only during the church service (Mon-Sat: 07:00 and 18:00; Sun 07:30, 09:00 and 18:00 ).

2. Restaurant "Bernard PUB U Bílého Lva"

Having drained our last glass “to the bottom” (lat. Ad profundum), we will return to the tram stop “Břevnovský klášter”, take tram number 22 and drive only two stops to the tram sign “Drinopol”. Here, in all its glory, the beer restaurant of the brewer Bernard - “Bernard PUB U Bílého Lva” awaits us.

Just a hundred meters from the stop is the Strahov Monastery (Strahovský klášter), founded by order of Prince Vladislav II in 1140 for the monastic order of premonstrants. The monastery's treasury is its library. It is located in the Philosophical Hall (the hall was decorated in the early Baroque style by the architect Ignaz Palliardi) and the magnificent Theological Hall, built in 1671-1679. by the Italian Domenico Orsi.

The territory of the Strahov Monastery is open to the public every day and around the clock. The entrance to the territory of the Strahov Monastery is free.

The Strahov Monastery Library is open Mon-Sun: 09: 00-12: 00 and 13: 00-17: 00; non-working days of the library are December 25 and April 5.The cost of an entrance ticket to the library for an adult visitor is 100 Kč.

Well, it doesn't hurt to drink a couple of other mugs in the local brewery, which is located exactly opposite the entrance to the Strahov Library, although this institution is not entirely to our taste personally.

The decision to build a brewery was made by Abbot Kaspar Questenberg in 1628. In 1907, the brewery closed and was reopened only at the beginning of the 21st century. Strahov Brewery is a typical representative of craft (craft) brewing. Where beer is brewed, it is bottled there. Today, several types of beer are produced here. The dispensary of the drinking establishment presents:

  • special dark unfiltered beer "St. Norbert 14 ° "(Schwarzbier);
  • special semi-dark beer "St. Norbert 13 ° "(Viennese lager);

4. Restaurant "Malostranská Beseda" and the Church of St. Nicholas

As they said in the Holy Roman Empire: “Abuse does not cancel the use” (lat. Abusus non tollit usum), and therefore we return to the tram stop “Pohořelec”, take tram number 22 and ride it five stops to the tram screensaver “Malostransíké náměstěst” ...

It is better to get on the tram on the right side in the direction of the train movement in order to enjoy the beautiful views of the Prague Castle and the Royal Summer Castle passing by.

On Lesser Town Square, the church of St. Nicholas (Kostel sv. Mikuláše) will surely fall on us with all its colossus. Under such pressure, there is no choice but to take refuge in the excellent Plze restaurant “Malostranská Beseda” located directly opposite the church.

In addition to the restaurant in a gray-beige 4-storey building with three dark iron turrets on the roof, there is a club, a pub and even a coffee shop. Beautiful design, in a modern interpretation of the original Pilsner Urquell restaurant, good Czech cuisine, a well-located summer terrace overlooking St. Nicholas Cathedral and the Pilsner Urquell tank pils, what else is needed for a pleasant time!

Pilsner is served here, as it should be in decent Pilsner pubs, in 4 bottling options: hladinka (gladinka), šnyt (šnit), mlíko (mliko) and čochtan (chokhtan).

  • "Hladinka" is a standard beer dispensing variant in which the foam takes up about 1/3 of the mug;
  • "Šnyt" - a variant of beer dispensing, in which the foam takes up approximately 2/3 of the mug;
  • “Mlíko” - a beer dispensing variant in which the foam takes up the whole mug;
  • “Čochtan” is a beer dispensing variant in which there is no foam at all in the mug.

No matter how funny it is, but the taste characteristics of beer really change from the amount of foam in the glass! To be honest, we most of all like the so-called female version of beer bottling - “Mlíko”. Pilsner in it almost loses its inherent bitterness and the glass is filled with a mild creamy taste.

Some Czechs, who drink 10 or more pils of Pilsner per evening, drink one in the “Mlíko” version after four usual mugs. Experts say that this method allows you not to lose the original taste of the beer, even after a long time. Frankly, we have not personally tested this system yet! In addition to the Pilsner, the pub also serves the dark lager Velkopopovický Kozel Černý 10 °, but we'll get to the brewer from Velké Popovice a little later!

For those who are interested in the Church of St. Nicholas (the patron saint of children, sailors and merchants), let's say that the green roof of the majestic Baroque church has dominated the surrounding palaces and gardens for almost three hundred years.

In 1710, the architect Christoph Dientzenhofer built its imposing facade, nave and side chapels, and after the death of the master, his son Kilian-Ignaz Dientzenhofer in 1722-1752. erected choirs and a grandiose dome of the temple (by the way, we have already met with this family contract in the Břevnov monastery).

According to legend, the inhabitants refused to enter the church after its opening, and only after the inspection of the dome by a special commission, which confirmed the reliability of the building, the believers began to attend church services. On the main nave of the church is the work of the Viennese artist Jan Lucas Kracker "The Glorification of St. Nicholas", the largest fresco in Europe - almost 1,500 square meters.

At the corners of the altar there are sculptures of the Church Fathers and a statue of St. Nicholas (by the Czech sculptor Ignac Frantisek Platzer the Elder). Of particular interest is also the exquisite gilded 2500-pipe organ, on which Mozart played music in 1787.

The church of St. Nicholas is adjoined by a bell tower that does not belong to the church, which is reminiscent of the coat of arms of the Malaya Strana above the entrance to the tower. The bell tower was built by the city authorities in 1756 to alert the townspeople in case of emergencies. During the days of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic, the local security service looked after the American Embassy from here, which is located just a hundred meters from the bell tower on Tržiště Street.

Today, there is an observation deck on the tower, from where not the most impressive views of Prague open.

5. Restaurant "Ferdinanda Malostranská" and the Church of the Victorious Virgin Mary

After having a heart-to-heart talk in Malostranské Náměstí, we will return to the tram stop Malostranské náměstí, take tram number 22 and drive just one stop to the tram sign “Hellichova”.

The stop is located just opposite the Church of the Victorious Virgin Mary (Kostel Panny Marie Vítězné a sv. Antonína Paduánského), which is famous for the fact that a wax figurine of the baby Jesus is kept here. The Prague Jezulatko (Pražské Jezulátko) is an object of worship for Christian Catholics.

We will return to the figurine of the infant Christ a little later, but for now weof interest is the Ferdinanda Malostranská, a branded restaurant of the brewer Ferdinand, located just a hundred meters from the bus stop.

As for the cuisine, it is simple and unpretentious here, although the pork and chicken schnitzels are excellent here.

For those who look into the church, we add that initially the Church of the Holy Trinity was built in 1611-1612. for German Protestant Lutherans. The project of the temple belongs to the courtier of Rudolph II, the Italian architect Giovanni Maria Filippi.

Prague. Church of the Victorious Virgin Mary (Kostel Panny Marie Vítězné)

After the defeat of the Protestants in the Battle of White Mountain (the mountain is located not far from the Břevnov Monastery), Emperor Ferdinand II granted the church to the Order of Discalced Carmelites, who made a contribution to the victory of the imperial army. On September 8, 1624, the temple was consecrated in gratitude for the success of the military campaign in honor of the Victorious Virgin Mary (some sources translate the name of the church as the Church of the Triumphant Virgin Mary).

Another patron of the church was St. Anthony of Padua. The wax figurine of the infant Jesus Christ, which appeared in the church in 1628, is considered the treasure of the temple. The authorship is attributed to an unknown Spanish monk, to whom, according to legend, Christ appeared during prayer in infancy.

The sculpture was created in the second half of the 16th century and came to the temple as a gift to the Carmelite Order from the pious Countess Polyxena Lobkovich. The 47-centimeter wooden figurine is covered with wax and represents Jesus at the age of 4-5 years. The small crown placed directly above the baby statue is a gift from Pope Benedict XVI. The pontiff personally visited the church in 2009.

The sculpture of a baby is regularly changed according to the church calendar in the colors of the current liturgical season. Typically, four primary colors are used:

  • white (the color of glory, purity and holiness - at Christmas);
  • red (the color of blood and fire - for Holy Week);
  • purple (the color of Repentance - Great Lent);
  • and green (the color of life and hope - clothes for any time).

Every year on the first Sunday in May on the day of coronation celebrations (for various miracles attributed to Iesulatko, including for the numerous healings and rescues of Prague citizens during the siege of Prague by the Swedes in the 17th century, the statue was solemnly crowned by the Prague bishopric in 1655), the royal mantle is used in the dress with ermine and the following colors:

  • pink (muted color of joy);
  • gold and blue (holiday colors).

In total, there are more than 100 dresses in the baby's wardrobe, which are housed in the church museum. One of the most famous is a gift from the Empress of the Holy Roman Empire and part-time Queen of Bohemia Maria Theresa, who personally embroidered this outfit for the baby in 1754.

Today, the most revered baby Jesus in Spain, Italy, Latin America and the Philippines. Believers say that Pražské Jezulátko (Prague Jezulatko) brings women a long-awaited pregnancy, gives health to sick children and blesses those who pray for family happiness. The temple is open daily from 08:30 to 19:00.

6. Restaurant "Kozlovna U Paukerta"

We hope that by the middle of our beer route, a pleasant lightness, flexibility and almost unearthly weightlessness have appeared in your body. As they said in the Holy Roman Empire:"Eat, drink, there is no pleasure after death!" (lat.Edite, bibite, post mortem nulla voluptas).

The writer Karel Czapek died before the German occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1938, but Josef Czapek died in the German concentration camp Bergen-Belsen from typhus in April 1945.

Prague tram is a very popular convenient transport in Prague. Tramways cover most of Prague and this type of transport, in terms of the number of passengers transported, goes right behind the metro, carrying about 30% of locals and tourists. Night trams in Prague

Night trams Prague they leave the depot between 20:00 and 22:30 and work by spreading those who walked around until 5-6 in the morning. The interval of movement for night trams is much higher than for day trams and can be up to 40 minutes.

Night tram numbers are 51-59. Routes 31 are temporary.

Night tram routes coincide with day trams only on two routes, slightly differing in a couple of sections. The trains of all night routes arrive in the city center at the Lazarská stop. Tram fares in Prague

At the beginning of 2012, the price of a tram ticket in Prague is:

24 kroons - 30 minutes (12 kroons for children and seniors)
CZK 32 - 90 minutes (CZK 16 for children and seniors)
110 CZK - 24 hours (for children and seniors 55 CZK)
310 CZK - 72 hours (3 days)

Prague tram history

Now in Prague there are seven 7 tram depots and one park-museum Vozovna Střešovice. Depot: Hloubětín, Kobylisy, Motol, Pankrác, Strašnice, Vokovice, Žižkov.

For the first time, rail traffic in Prague began on September 23, 1874. Then the carriage, driven by horses, followed the route "Karlin - National Theater". The owner of the road was the Belgian entrepreneur Eduard Ottlet.

In 1876, the rails were laid to the Smikhovsky railway station across the bridge. In 1982 the network was expanded and the tram was already running to Vinohrady and Zizkov. A year later, the length of the routes was already about 20 kilometers.

The first electric tram went to Letnaya in 1891. In 1893 the line was extended to Governor's Villa. In 1898 the Prague - Vinohrady road was built. The development of trams in Prague continued and this type of transport gained more and more popularity among residents.

In 1898, the horse tram was bought by electric companies and the construction of new tracks and the reconstruction of old ones began. The last route to be electrified was the Charles Bridge route, which operated until 1908.

During the First World War, ambulance trams were used to transport the wounded. In addition to people, they transported weapons, cartridges and other cargo.

Now the park has about 1000 wagons, excluding museum exhibits and service personnel. There are only two tram brands - Tatra and Skoda. The most modern is the Skoda-15 T (pictured on the left). The previous model - Skoda - 14T looks no less modern. Veterans of the Tatra brand are well known to Russians. The same trams run along the rails of Russian cities.

This tram does not pick up passengers. It is educational.

Veterans sometimes fail. Breaking. We almost reached the Republic Square. I had to go on foot.

A tram breakdown caused a tram jam. You can't go around here on the side of the road. The drivers opened the doors and most of the people dispersed. But the breakdown was eliminated in 15 minutes. So this happens.

Prague is not only very popular but also very convenient. Easy to fly, easy to move around and easy to learn. The city is located on hilly terrain on both banks of the Vltava River, which made it difficult to move around on foot. One ascent to the Prague Castle is worth a lot!

Today I decided to talk about the use of public transport in Prague. For me, who is well versed in transport, it is not a problem to study the system of a new city for myself. But many are repelled by this, and not everyone will take a taxi or rent a car to travel around the city.

Do not take this material as an absolute encyclopedia of transport. First of all, I will talk about what is most important for every tourist and how not to make a fatal mistake.

Tickets: types, where to buy, how to get through

Prague public transport tickets vary in terms of validity. With any ticket, you can make an infinite number of connections within the set time. A standard ticket (aka basic) costs 32 Czech crowns and entitles you to travel within 90 minutes. During these 90 minutes, you must complete your trip and leave the transport! This also applies to exiting the metro. At 91 minutes, you become a stowaway passenger.

There is a short term ticket for 30 minutes. It costs 24 kroons. A ticket for a day costs 110 kroons, and for three days 310 kroons. Children's tickets are only sold for 30 minutes, 90 minutes and 1 day. Their cost is 2 times less. Children under 6 years old inclusive and pensioners from 70 years old use transport free of charge.

3. All tickets from 30 minutes to 3 days must be booked at the first entrance to the transport. You do not need to punch again. 30/90 minutes will take effect from the moment it breaks through, no matter how much time you spend on a transplant. Time will pass. For example, if you booked a ticket for 90 minutes at 10-00, it will cease to be valid at 11-30. For this reason, I do not advise using a 30 minute ticket if you need to change trains.

5. In the metro, they can be located directly in front of the escalator. By taking a step across the line on the floor, you declare that you paid the fare.

6. The controller can appear at any time. He checked me in a subway car. It can even check on the way out. I learned from free brochures in information centers that the fine for travel without a ticket is 1,500 CZK. In one of the recent entries wlad_1978 living in the Czech Republic, named the amount of 1600 kroons. The brochure informs that payment on the spot or within the first 15 days is 800 CZK. That's a lot anyway. It's cheaper to buy a monthly pass and not suffer.

7. If you come to Prague for 7 days or more, you may be more comfortable with another type of travel pass - monthly. It costs 670 CZK. Its validity period is indicated on the ticket. The most convenient way to buy it is at information kiosks. The first one you will see at the airport in the transition between the terminals. It is beneficial if you come to Prague not only to see the city, but also the castles in the vicinity or the nearest cities. It's fun and very easy. The pass will help you get around the city and not think about problems with controllers.

8. The next thing that is important is to have an up-to-date public transport scheme with you. (click to enlarge). The system is based on a combination of 3 metro lines and three dozen tram lines. The metro lines form a triangle in the center, which is typical for the metro systems of the post-Soviet space. Similar intersections in the center are now being built in Minsk and Sofia.

14. Buses in the city center are rare. Most of the routes operate in remote areas.

18. The rolling stock of trams is very different. The era of the old Tatras, born for the first time in Czechoslovakia and known throughout the post-Soviet space, is leaving. These cars are in excellent condition after decades of service and are now leaving for other countries. For example, you can meet them in Ukraine. At the end of 2016, these old people were bought there for development.

19. Modern rolling stock will pleasantly surprise you. These are very comfortable low-floor trams. having 6 doors at once to the entrance. Their number in Prague has already reached 200 and is increasing every month.

20. Now let's go down to the subway and understand this system. The Prague Metro is the most western of all, built under Soviet influence. There are a number of deep stations. Navigation is simple, but it combines two extremes at the same time. On one side you will be greeted by a sign: go to the Depo Hostivar station on the left on track 1, to the station Nemocnice Motol. The tram network in Prague is the largest tram network in the Czech Republic. The length of all tracks exceeds 141 km, the length of the routes is 548 km. Since September 1, 2012, 31 lines have been operating in Prague, of which: 21 day transport lines, 9 night transport lines and 1 historic tram route. Daily routes are numbered from 1 to 26, while routes 13, 15, 19, 21, 23, 36 have been eliminated. Night routes 51 to 59. Nostalgic route number 91.

The tram network carries about 350 million passengers a year. For this, 7 tram depots are used in Prague for the main passenger transport, serving a total of 980 cars: Vozovna Motol - 118 cars, Vozovna Hloubětín - 127 cars, Vozovna Žižkov - 128 cars, Vozovna Kobylisy and Vozovna Strašnice - 142 cars in each Pankrác - 150 cars, Vozovna Vokovice - 173 cars. There is also another depot - Vozovna Střešovice. It is used for museum pieces and service carriages. This depot is served by nostalgic line 91. The Prague electric tram uses 600 volt direct current.

All trams, like any other public transport, run strictly on schedule. The schedule of each route is indicated at its stop. In this case, all stops are indicated from the starting point to the final one. The stop at this point of departure is in a different font. Next to each subsequent station, the time is indicated, in how many minutes the tram will be at a particular stop. Tram timetables on weekdays and weekends may vary. For example, the schedule table may contain traffic columns by days of the week: Monday - Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday; or, for example: Monday - Saturday, Sunday. Minutes of departure are indicated opposite each hour. Where there is a disabled person icon next to the minutes, this means that the tram is suitable for transporting disabled people, the footboard of the tram is low and has no steps; You can enter the tram in a wheelchair directly from the platform; there is also a place in the tram for installing and fixing a wheelchair with a passenger. Not all trams have the ability to transport disabled people, but those that have such an opportunity go quite often. If the timetable is yellow on the stand, it means that the timetable is temporary. Some stops have an electronic scoreboard that shows how many minutes are left until the arrival of a particular tram number.

The day tram starts operating at 04.30, gradually replacing night trams on the route. Finishes its work at 0.00 hours. The interval of movement during working hours in the morning and in the evening is on average 8 minutes, in the afternoon 10 minutes. On weekends and holidays on various routes from 7.5 to 15 minutes. Since September 1, 2012, it has 21 lines. Previously, there were a little more. Since that time, significant changes have been made to the tram network aimed at optimizing urban transport. Lines 3, 9, 11, 17 and 22 are the main tram routes. The night tram runs from 0.30 am to 04.30 am. Such trams leave the depot gradually, from 20.00 to 22.30. They begin their work on the routes as day trams, gradually replacing those that leave for the depot. Newly departed trams until 0.00 o'clock work together with those carriages that serve day routes, called midnight trams in Prague. At approximately 0.00 hours, arriving at the terminal station, the tram driver changes the route number. Thus, the tram at its final stop “turns” into a night one from a day route. The car, which left for service of night routes, goes back to the depot at 5.00 - 6.00 in the morning.

At night, the city is served by nine lines, numbers from 51 to 59. Despite the fact that the number of lines is much less than the daytime ones, the night lines are longer, covering almost any part of the city. Night routes do not repeat the day routes. Only two routes overlap with the daily lines. The movement interval of each number is exactly 30 minutes. The interval cannot be called long, since some stations have more than one route and, thus, the interval between trams at a station can be reduced to 8-17 minutes.

In the city center, at the Lazarska station (Czech. Lazarská), all night tram routes come together, so here you can change trains to the desired route and get anywhere in Prague, even at night. Also, there are several other transfer points where several routes intersect. In the timetable, night tram lines are marked with a dark color.

For example, at one time a tram with number 36 ran through the city. This route was necessary in connection with the construction of an automobile tunnel not far from the Sparta stadium. Route 36 was a continuation of the interrupted route 26 due to construction work.

Nostalgic (historical) tram

During the warmer months, a historic tram runs in Prague. It is also called nostalgic. This is a special old tram. Several double-carriages of the museum tram run around the city. Route 91, terminal stations Vozovna Střešovice - Výstaviště. The fare is slightly higher than other types of transport. A special ticket is issued here. There are no transfers, the ticket is valid only to the nearest terminal station. The museum tram is served by a special depot - Vozovna Střešovice. In total, the depot has 77 wagons of the historic tram. The museum tram runs only on weekends from 12:00 to 18:00 at 1 hour intervals from April to October.

A bit of history

The first tram in Prague was launched on 23 September 1875. It was a horse-drawn railroad, popularly called "horse-drawn tram". The route of the first horse tram was “Karlin - National Theater” (Czech Karlín - Národní divadlo). The road was gradually extended and by 1883 the entire network reached 19.43 kilometers.

In 1891, the first electric tram went to Prague. The first electric tram line ran on Letnaya (Czech Letná). This was the merit of the engineer František Křižík (Czech František Křižík). On March 19, 1896, thanks to him, another line was opened, which ran from the present Florenc district to the Liben (Czech Libeň) and Vysočany (Czech Vysočany) areas. The next year, a new line appears, already in the area of ​​Prague. The route was Smíchov - Košíře (Czech: Smíchov - Košíře) and this line was called the Glavachkova electric road. In 1898, another route was opened, with a length of 5.8 km. Prague - Vinohrady (Czech Královské Vinohrady), was named after the terminal station - Královské Vinohrady. Gradually, it became possible to transport residents of the suburbs of Prague. In 1898, the show jumping bought the city's electrical enterprise and gradually began reconstruction to transfer the lines to electric traction, which ended in 1905. Thus, the company was formed, which is now called the Passenger Company of the Capital of Prague JSC. The last electrified route was completed at the Charles Bridge. He worked there until 1908.

In the capital of the Czech Republic, you can travel by funicular, bus and metro, but the most convenient mode of transport is the tram, with which you can get to the place you need from anywhere in the city. The main thing is to clearly remember the scheme of Prague trams and their schedule, and then all your trips will certainly be successful.

The history of the Prague tram

The length of Prague is about 500 km. However, before studying in detail the schemes of Prague trams in Russian, it is worth plunging into the history of this type of transport.

For the first time, the carriage on the tracks began its, then still extremely slow, movement, on September 23, 1874, and it was traveling thanks to a harnessed horse that carried passengers along the route "Karlin-National Theater". Then, in 1876, the rails were laid across the bridge to the Smikhovsky railway station, and a year later the length of the routes was already 20 km, but the trams were still driven by horses.

The first electric tram was launched in 1891. And then the development of trams in Prague went on a swift path - new routes were built, new trams appeared on the rails, the number of passengers increased, and as a result, today the tram fleet has about 1000 cars of two brands Skoda and Tatra.

  • half an hour for 30 minutes, which costs 24 CZK for adults, and 12 CZK for children and pensioners;
  • daily allowance for 24 hours, which costs 110 CZK for adults, and 55 CZK for children and pensioners;
  • a three-day stay for 72 hours costs 310 CZK for all without exception.

Tram passes

If you plan to stay in the city longer, then it is better to buy a travel card in Prague, which will allow you to significantly save money and not think that the ticket is about to expire. In total, there are several types of travel cards, which, again, differ exclusively in the time of use:

  • a monthly pass is valid for 30 days and costs 550 kroons for adults, 260 kroons for children and students, and 250 kroons for pensioners;
  • a quarterly pass is valid for 90 days and costs 1480 kroons for adults, 720 kroons for children and students, and 660 kroons for pensioners;
  • a five-month pass is valid for 150 days and costs 2450 kroons for adults, 1200 kroons for children and students, and 1100 kroons for pensioners;
  • a ten-month pass is valid for 300 days and can be bought only for children and students by paying 2400 kroons;
  • the annual pass is valid for a whole year from the date of purchase and costs the same for everyone - 3650 CZK.

Where to buy a ticket or travel card

Also, before a detailed study of the Prague tram scheme in Russian or Czech, you need to figure out where you can purchase a document confirming the right to travel. Actually, there are a lot of options here.

  1. Knowing the exact price of a ticket, you can buy it from a vending machine located at a stop or a metro station, paying with either coins or bank cards.
  2. In any kiosks that sell newspapers and cigarettes, as there are experienced sellers who can easily talk to foreigners.
  3. If you have a Czech SIM card, you can send an SMS to 90206, where you can book a half-hour ticket for yourself by typing DPT24, normal - DPT32, daily - DPT100.
  4. If you have a smartphone but don't have a Czech SIM card, you can reserve your ticket using the Sejf app, which can be downloaded for free from iTunes or Google play.
  5. Alternatively, you can buy a tram ticket directly from the tram driver, however, in this case, you will have to pay a larger amount.

Tram Schedule

There is no need to panic that you can get lost in the Prague tram circuit and accidentally take the wrong route or wait for a tram at a stop for a long time. In order to avoid such troubles, all the necessary information about transport routes is posted in the public domain for tourists, guests and residents of the city. You can find out about the time and movement of a particular tram at any where the scheme of its route and the exact time of arrival, both at this stop and at the terminal station, are posted.

But in the event that you do not know what tram number you need, you can go to the website of the Czech Ministry of Transport, and there, in the special section "Passenger Transport Schedule", you will just need to enter the name of the starting stop, which is located near you, and the final stop, and also fill in the arrival time at the destination or departure time. And as a result, the website will give you all the necessary information about the tram number on which you can get there, travel time, possible transfers and distance in kilometers.

Day trams

In accordance with the route of trams in Prague, in the city from half past four in the morning until midnight, they run on 24 routes. Usually, the waiting time for a day tram does not exceed five minutes, so do not worry if you arrive at the stop when the tram has already left, because you will not have to wait long for the next one. The main thing is to carefully look at its number, since 2-3 routes always pass through one stop, and sometimes more.

It is also important to read the information on the stands of the stop, as there they can inform about a change in the route, which is connected either with holidays or with repairs of tracks. In addition, it should be remembered that the tram schedule may differ on weekdays and weekends, so while waiting for your vehicle, be sure to read all the information on the leaflets at the stop so as not to get into trouble.

Night trams

According to the Prague tram route scheme, at night passengers are transported by trams with numbers 51-59, which leave the depot at 20.00-22.30 and then travel on their own routes until 4.30. It is important to remember that the paths of night trams coincide with the day trams only on a couple of routes, but in general they are completely different.

However, all tram cars eventually arrive at the terminal station "Lazarska" (in Czech - Lazarská), located in the city center, from where passengers can change to any other tram or bus route to get where they need to go.

Also in the capital of the Czech Republic there are several more stops where you can get off the tram at night in order to change to another vehicle, the main thing is to find out about this in advance or just spy on the night tram scheme that hangs at each stop. Moreover, it is not at all difficult to find your way around the route of night trams, since they are highlighted in black.

Tram 22 in Prague

One of the most popular Prague routes is tram 22, which allows for a full city tour. It travels at intervals of 5-10 minutes, so that every tourist, having taken a single ticket, can safely ride this route, going out at any stop to admire the sights of Prague. Then you can take the next tram again and move on. On this route, the stops should be especially highlighted:

  • Narodni Trida, near which there are many hotels and restaurants;
  • Narodni Divadlo, which allows you to see and visit the Prague National Theater and the cozy Slavia cafe on the opposite bank of the river, which can be reached by ferry;
  • Ujezd stands out in particular in the tram 22 in Prague, as getting out here, you can admire the park, look at the bronze monument erected in honor of the victims of communism, and also transfer to the funicular to Petřín Hill;
  • Hellichova, allowing you to appreciate the beauty of the Church of Mary the Victorious;
  • Malostranska, next to which is the majestic Charles Bridge and the entrance to the beautiful Wallenstein Gardens;
  • Kralovsky Letohradek, across the road from which rises the wonderful Summer Royal Palace, surrounded by the Royal Garden;
  • Prazsky Hrad, which is remarkable for the nearby Prague Castle, where you can spend several hours admiring its beauty;
  • Brusnice, from where you can look at the amazing New World district of Prague, which amazes with cobbled streets and small houses.

Tourist-historical tram 91

A separate line in the Prague tram scheme is Route 91, which is served by the Vozovna Střešovice depot, located at the tram terminus. Having arrived there, tourists can go to the Public Transport Museum located right in this depot, where they can learn more about how passenger transportation in Prague developed, how transport changed and improved, and how the city tram network became what it is.

But this tram route is interesting not only for the museum. Here the tram itself is interesting, running along it, because it is made exactly like the most ancient trams, inside it is completely trimmed with wood and moves very slowly, which allows, sitting in its place, to see the Prague streets in all their glory.

Why are there streets, according to the Prague tram route, this vehicle will pass such attractions as the Prague Castle, Royal Gardens, Belvedere, Wenceslas and Lesser Towns Squares, National Theater, Veletrzni Palace, Vyshtavite complex and Republic Square. The only thing is that you will have to buy a ticket for a trip in such a tram directly from his conductor and pay 35 CZK for it.

Tram route 23

However, if you take a close look at the diagram of Prague trams with stops, you will notice that many sights from sightseeing tram 91 can be seen from the windows of tram No. 23. This route was launched in March 2017, the trams on it are not modern, but made " semi-antique ", which is especially noticeable on bulky loudspeakers.

However, a trip in it is carried out with standard tickets, so here you can feel the spirit of old Prague, look at the sights of the city and, at the same time, not overpay. This route passes through the historical center of the city, starting from the Kralovka stop, and then the tram travels through Malostranska and Karlovskaya squares, the National Theater and Pavlova square, ending with the Zvonarka stop.

Tourist notes

Arriving in the capital of the Czech Republic, it is important not only to learn everything about the Prague tram scheme, but also to remember a few important nuances of travel in them:

  1. In Prague, it does not matter whether a person is a tourist or a native, but if the controller catches him riding a "hare" in a tram, he will be fined 500 CZK.
  2. Children under 7 and pensioners over 70 can ride trams for free
