Spain FOR CHILDREN

What kind of Spain do we imagine? Motley, like a mosaic in Park Guell. Passionate, like flamenco dancing. Mysterious, like the paintings of Dali and Picasso. Inaccessible, like the pine-covered slopes of the Pyrenees. Romantic, like Lorca's poems and orange tree flowers. Noisy, like a continuous fiesta.

It is a country with several languages and different cultural traditions, this combination of snow-capped peaks and warm sea, this is a European-style, civilized acquaintance with African exoticism - the puzzle of Spain can be assembled by lovingly looking at each piece. And for families with children, this is a country where everyone will find a comfortable (and surrounded by excursion sites) place in the sun.

Family holidays in Spain can have different durations and directions. But they leave here with the desire to return and continue exploring this warm country.

A balm for the soul of spontaneous travelers: a holiday with children in Spain will be successful, even if you don’t prepare for it - the tourism sector here is thought out to the smallest detail. Well, if you plan everything carefully, including beaches, museums, flamenco, and gazpacho with paella, you will get a real, typically Spanish celebration of life.

Where is Spain

The Kingdom of Spain is a state in the southwestern part of Europe, located on the Iberian Peninsula. The territory of Spain includes the Balearic and Canary Islands, the cities of Ceuta and Melilla in Africa.

From the south and east it is washed Mediterranean Sea, part of the northern, western and south coast washed by waters Atlantic Ocean. The central part of the territory is occupied by the Pyrenees mountain system.

In the north, Spain is bordered by France and Andorra, in the south by Morocco and the British possession of Gibraltar, and in the west by Portugal. The area of the state is 504.8 thousand square meters. km. Population - 47.4 million people. The capital is Madrid.

Spain is part of the Schengen zone, so you need a Schengen visa to enter the country. Citizens of Ukraine - holders of biometric passports are allowed visa-free entry into the country for up to 90 days.

Vacation with children

There are many reasons to go to Spain with children: long summers, magnificent beaches, warm sea, an incredible amount of entertainment, convenient transportation . Whether you want to bask in the sun, or wander through old cities, or visit famous museums, or have a blast at an amusement park - it’s all easy to fit into one, even short, trip.

The main reason for the popularity of family holidays in Spain is the full care for travelers with children. Family tourism has received special development in last years. For example, in Catalonia there are resorts certified for families with children.

And it should be noted that at the same time, there are almost no hotels in the country with an all-inclusive system and a wide entertainment program: the conditions for a good rest with a child are created by resorts, not hotels.

Spain has everything for children to make little travelers squeal with delight, be it famous parks entertainment or regular playgrounds.

But creating conditions for relaxation with infant- this is a concern of both hotels and authorities. A crib in the room, ramps, elevators and space for strollers in public transport, corners for changing and feeding babies in museums and restaurants, a large selection of baby food in supermarkets - you quickly get used to such convenience.

If you have more than one day allotted to get to know Spain, our advice to you: don't neglect siesta. It is not always possible to neglect it - at the hottest hours of the day, shops, cafes, and even some museums close. At this time, it is better to refrain from walking and staying on the beach.

When is the best time to go?

The tourist season in Spain goes through ups and downs, but it's not easy to find a week when the hotels are empty and the multilingual buzz is not heard in the restaurants. Summer is the time for beach holiday, winter - for riding alpine skiing, spring and autumn - for football and bullfighting, and all year - for holidays and festivals.

The beach season lasts from May to September, and on southern resorts lasts until the end of October.

But the swimming season in Spain is shorter: the water warms up only by mid-June and remains warm until mid-September, although in some places - in Tenerife, for example, you can swim until late autumn. Therefore it is considered the most popular

The highest wave of vacationers hits the coast in July-August. It is worth taking care of housing for this time long before the trip, and for a holiday with a baby in Spain it is best to choose small resort towns rather than large cities.

A when is the best time to go to Spain to see something other than beaches? Oh, there are so many to choose from.

  1. In Spain, holidays are solemnly and cheerfully celebrated, be it a grandiose carnival or the day of the patron saint of some town. The main events that take place on a special scale are Christmas, the February Carnival, Semana Santa, the Moors and Christians holidays and the Bonfires of St. John (the last two occur in the summer).
  2. The football season opens at the end of August: fans, rejoice at the chance to bask on the beach and watch Barça, Real Madrid or Sevilla play live.
  3. The beginning of the bullfighting season is March, but most of the performances take place in May-October. We recommend buying tickets for bullfighting in advance: the Spaniards themselves quickly snap up tickets for bullfights.

If we are talking about saturated excursion program, then it is best to plan a vacation with a child in spring or autumn. The off-season weather is slightly different in different regions, so more about that.

Weather and climate

The climate of Spain has a scientific description - “Mediterranean”, but other words describe it much better: “sunny”, “warm”, “dry”. There are long summers and mild winters, and the sun shines 300-320 days a year.

And yet this description turns out to be too general, since the weather differs at different resorts. For example, the summer heat on the sea coast is always less than in cities far from the sea. The Canary Islands have a special climate, where there is neither winter nor summer, but only warm spring.

The winter weather is also different. If on coastal resorts If the temperature stays above zero, then in the mountains the temperature drops below zero and there is snow - that’s why Spain is known not only for seaside resorts, but also for skiing.

Generally holiday season in Spain - this is the period from May to September. At the end of spring, the air warms up to +20-24°C, in June to +25-28°C, and in July-August the spread of temperature indicators becomes very significant: from +28°C in Tenerife to +40°C in Seville. On the coast, summer temperatures generally do not exceed +30°C.

Autumn in Spain can also be different. It may get colder to +20°C already in mid-September. In the Costa Blanca the temperature remains +25-28°C throughout September. The Canary Islands are just beginning to develop the best conditions for a seaside holiday.

And in the main city of Andalusia, the thermometer never drops below +30-34°C. When planning a holiday in Spain at this time, be sure to check the weather forecast.

By the beginning of November, almost all resorts begin the low season, which lasts until March-April. The air temperature at this time does not exceed +10-15°C, and it rains quite often. The only exception is the Canary Islands, where thermometers show +20°C even in winter.

On the contrary, at ski resorts the end of autumn is the opening time of the season. From November to April, temperatures in the mountains range from -3°C to +2°C during the day and -5-10°C at night. Snowfalls are frequent in winter, thanks to which good snow cover remains until mid-spring.

March and April are a short off-season in Spain. It is still too cool for a holiday at sea, since the air barely has time to warm up to +15-20° C. But spring is good for an excursion trip to Madrid.

Nights in Spain are cool even in summer. As soon as the sun sets, the air temperature drops to +16-20°C; in May and September-October the air cools down to +14-17°C overnight.

What time is it? best vacation in Spain with children? It depends on the purpose of the holiday and on the region:

  • We recommend going to the sea at the end of August ( Costa Brava), in September (Costa Dorada, Costa Blanca, Costa del Sol, Costa de Almeria, Mallorca) or in July-October (Tenerife);
  • April-May and September are suitable for city excursions;
  • Optimal conditions for skiing occur in January-March.

Sea water temperature

The beach season in Spain begins in May, and by June the heat tempts you to take a refreshing dip in the sea. But there is no need to rush: in most resorts the sea temperature at the beginning of summer is only +20-22° C.

By July the sea becomes warm in all resorts. In the Costa Dorada, Costa Blanca, Costa de Almeria, the water warms up to +24-26° C, and in Mallorca the water temperature sometimes reaches +28° C.

A little colder water in the Costa Brava, Costa del Sol and Tenerife. Here the summer maximum is only +22-23° C.

With the arrival of autumn, the water temperature in Spain remains almost unchanged, and in Tenerife it even becomes higher: the warmest sea in the Canaries is in September-October. In most resorts you can swim throughout September and even at the beginning of October; only in the Costa Brava and Costa del Sol the swimming season ends in the second half of September.

Nutrition

Tourists who have already vacationed in Spain are surprised when they hear questions about the existence of all-inclusive hotels in the country.

Eating in a hotel restaurant all the time means missing out on one of the best aspects of Spanish culture. Paella, gazpacho, tortilla, pa amb tomaket, and other masterpieces of local cuisine can be tasted in any of the many restaurants or right on the street on holidays (that is, almost always).

And what kind of baked goods there are - you won’t be able to pull the kids away by the ears. Therefore, we recommend not to look for a hotel with full board, but get acquainted with Spanish culinary traditions.

If you come to Spain with a baby under one year old, it will be enough to ask for a kettle in your room for preparing baby formula and cereals. IN family hotels You will definitely be given a bottle sterilizer and other things you need to care for your little one.

Note that many catering establishments, especially in major cities, acquiring children's corners. While the food is being prepared, the children are busy playing and are not bored.

Another reason to look into the nearest cafe is if your child wants to go to the toilet. There are few public toilets in the country, and the owners of food outlets will react favorably if you run into them not to eat, but to visit the bathroom.

If you are planning independent holiday in Spain with children, you can buy everything you need, including cheeses, jamon, fresh fruit in markets, supermarkets or specialized shops. Baby food in Spain is sold in pharmacies and supermarkets.

Before the weekend, stock up on baby food: stores have shortened business hours on Saturday and a day off on Sunday.

In stores you will find all the usual products: milk, fermented milk drinks, cottage cheese, cereals, meat, fish, vegetables. Markets usually sell the freshest seafood and fruits.

And in the markets you can refresh yourself at odd hours - for example, the famous Boqueria in Barcelona opens the doors of its cafes from 6 o'clock in the morning.

We advise you to take a closer look at small family stores - this is where you can find real delicacies. Flavored pastries are sold in bakeries (panadería), and if you want more sophisticated sweets, look for a pastry shop (pastelleria).

Seasonal fruits, vegetables and herbs can be purchased at fruiteria. Cheeses and jamon are sold in the charcuteria, and there is often a tiny cafe where a child can make a sandwich with toasted bread grated with half a fresh tomato.

Transport

Since the area of Spain is large and interesting places scattered throughout the country, transport links play a significant role in travel. Tourists are greeted major airports, and comfortable buses and trains deliver you to your vacation spot.

Buses are one of the most convenient and cheapest ways to travel around Spain. There are several carrier companies operating in each region, and ALSA buses mainly operate between regions. The schedule can be found at bus stations or on the websites of carriers.

Traveling by train is more expensive than by bus, but sometimes more convenient: for example, high speed trains AVEs travel from Madrid to Barcelona in 2.5-3 hours, and buses in 6 hours. As for prices, a bus ticket costs less than 35 euros, while a train ticket costs 85-115 euros.

Urban public transport in Spain is only available in large cities (small resorts can be explored on foot or by tourist train).

The fare is 1.5-2.5 euros, and it is always cheaper to buy a multi-trip pass. Travel tickets for children they are half the price of tickets for adults.

To save on travel and excursions, it is profitable to buy tourist maps(eg Madrid City Pass, Barcelona Card).

With such cards you can use public transport unlimitedly, travel around the city on a sightseeing bus, visit museums for free or receive a discount when purchasing entrance tickets.

An alternative to public transport in Spain is car rental. Restless, inquisitive tourists cannot do without a car, and there is only one recommendation: follow the traffic rules to avoid high fines.

What to do with your child

A family holiday in Spain can only be quiet if you are serious about staying away from all the fun. And this is not easy: there are water parks, amusement parks, zoos, and simply playgrounds with original designs. It’s better to immediately arm yourself with the knowledge of where you can spend time with your child so that the whole family is satisfied.

There are many more options for what to do in Spain with a child: rope parks, karting tracks, children’s playgrounds, too many to list. There is not a single resort where children have a chance to get bored.

Sea and beach

You can literally talk about a place in the sun in Spain: many cities are bathed in sunshine for more than 300 days a year, and the coastline has a total length of about 5,000 km.

The white shores of the Costa Blanca, the golden coast of the Costa Dorada, in places black, covered volcanic sand Tenerife beaches - regardless of the color of the sand, the beaches of Spain receive a “blue flag” from year to year for the cleanliness of the coast.

There are no private beaches on the Spanish coast. All spanish beaches municipal, and their cleanliness is monitored by local authorities. Often, nearby hotels are involved in maintaining the cleanliness of the coast. All beaches are free, but you can only use a sun lounger or umbrella for a fee.

In Spain they predominate sandy beaches, with a flat, clean bottom and gentle entry into the water. The coast is covered with small pebbles only in the Costa de Almeria. In Mallorca there are several beaches where concrete platforms are equipped, and in the Costa Brava there are rocky sections of the coast.

A huge plus of a beach holiday in Spain is the presence of children's playgrounds on the shore (which is why you don't need to worry about whether there is a playground at the hotel). In some places, mini-clubs have been created for children on the beaches: the Costa Dorada resorts are especially famous for them.

There is no hotel pool water slides? This is because there are such slides on the beaches. Almost every resort region has acquired its own water park. And even if it is in a neighboring town, you can get there by public transport you can do it without any problem.

Diving and windsurfing

Sitting on the beach in Sydney and basking in the sun - isn't that about you? Then a few recommendations on how a seaside holiday in Spain can enrich you with new knowledge and skills.

The best places for beginner divers are the sea off the coast of Mallorca, Costa Brava and Costa Dorada. Dive centers operate at all resorts, and spots for the first real dives are located in the area of coral reefs inhabited by fish.

For learning windsurfing and kitesurfing, the most suitable resort is Alcudia in Mallorca, El Medano beach in Tenerife, Roses in the Costa Brava, Cambrils in the Costa Dorada, Alicante in the Costa Blanca.

Alpine skiing in Spain

Spain, tired of the sun, seems easy, but covered in snow - it’s more difficult. Meanwhile, the mountains here are high enough and the snowfalls are heavy enough to allow skiing for several months. At the same time, in Spain there are neither extreme altitudes nor extreme frosts, so acclimatization is easy.

Ski resorts in Spain are not inferior to Austrian ones in terms of the quality of slopes and infrastructure. For everyone major resorts There are ski schools and towns for teaching children.

Sierra Nevada - the most famous and most exotic ski resort: from its slopes you can see the coast of Africa. There are many good resorts in the northern and eastern parts of Spain, in the Iberian Mountains (Formigal, Valdescarai, Valdelinares), the Aragonese Pyrenees (Astun, Candanchu), the Catalan Pyrenees (Baqueira Beret, La Molina), the Cantabrian Cordillera (Alto Campo).

Sierra Nevada

The pistes in the Iberian Mountains are laid out in the middle of a pine forest, and Formigal holds the Spanish record for the most pistes. The Pyrenees are relatively famous high altitudes, various trails, plenty of snow and sun. Cantabria has excellent conditions for beginners, but the ski season is disappointingly short.

Another skiing region is the Central Mountain System (La Pinilla, Valdeschi). It's almost the best place For ski holiday in Spain with children, primarily because it has the largest number of easy trails. In addition, from the resorts of central mountain system It's just a stone's throw from Madrid, where it's fun with kids at any time of the year.

Possibility to combine winter holidays in Spain with excursions - a great success. The distance from the resorts of the Catalan Pyrenees to Barcelona is 150-250 km, which means you can ski and see the main attractions of the capital of Catalonia. From Valdelinares it is convenient to get to Valencia, and from Sierra Nevada to Malaga.

What to see

Spanish museums can be very roughly divided into adults and children's. Conditionally, because children can be captivated by paintings in art galleries, ships in maritime museums, and dinosaur skeletons in natural science museums. Often, entry to such museums is free for children, and the excursion turns into a quest.

What to see in Spain depends on your preferences. Let's name just a few of the most famous museums in major cities.

  • Madrid: , and , with Indian headdresses and (you can show your child rock paintings from the Altamira cave).
  • Barcelona: , (what to see with children in Spain if not an exhibition dedicated to the Columbus expedition?)
  • Valencia: , .
  • Seville: , .

Well, children's museums are truly interesting places for children:

  • experimental museums - Parque de las Ciencias in Granada;
  • unusual museums - the Fallas Museum in Valencia, the Museum of Magic and Curiosities in the Costa Brava,;
  • touching museums - or the Perez Mouse Museum in Madrid;
  • sports museums - if you are going on holiday to Spain with children who are passionate about football, their happiness will know no bounds from visiting the Barça and Real Madrid museums.

Such a long list of museums may make you regret that you can’t visit Spain with a child... all of Spain at once. It’s impossible - but there is a way to explore the main architectural sights of the country in an hour or two.

Where to go

In Spain, fortunately, there is no one main resort that outshines all the others. Each region is interesting, each is unique - and almost each is suitable for family travel.

Well, since tourists most often want to sunbathe on the beach and visit the most famous museums, we suggest exploring the main regions of Spain for families with children.

Madrid

The capital of Spain may not seem like a children's city at all: a complex architectural ensemble, three reputable art galleries, several historical museums and there is no sea at all.

But here are just a few arguments why you can go to Madrid with children: free entry for children to adult museums, a lot of attractions in the Casa de Campo park, lots of entertainment and the opportunity to spend an atypical spring or autumn holiday.

Barcelona

It's hard to believe that Barcelona has only been known as a tourist destination for about twenty years. This city is consecrated by the genius of Antonio Gaudi, Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, and it will take more than one week to visit all the museums in Barcelona.

The capital of Catalonia also has a lot of interesting things for children: from an amusement park to a museum of magic trains. You can plan your holiday in Barcelona in the summer to sunbathe on the beaches of the Costa Dorada, or in the off-season, when there are not many tourists in the city.

Valencia

The city is large and at the same time calm, quite suitable for a summer vacation. Its main attraction - the City of Arts and Sciences - is designed specifically for visiting with children. Valencia has many other family attractions, including water parks. On hot days summer days you can spend time on city beaches.

Seville

The main city of Andalusia cannot boast of an abundance of children's entertainment, but it is suitable for a holiday with schoolchildren who are interested in visiting the Alcazar Palace and seeing a flamenco show. Seville is best visited in spring or autumn - summer is unbearably hot.

Costa Brava

Which resort in Spain should you choose to enjoy a beach holiday and not suffer from the heat? Perhaps only the Costa Brava and the Canaries can please you with a warm, but not too hot summer.

In addition to the beaches themselves, this resort coast delights with an abundance of family entertainment, inexpensive hotels and convenient transport links with Barcelona. Some resorts in the region are certified as a Family Tourism Destination.

Costa Dorada

It is difficult to praise the “Golden Coast”: it has a mild climate, wonderful beaches, and the largest amusement park in Spain, Port Aventura.

Among the best options with children, the Costa Dorada is one of the first mentioned: the cities of Salou and Cambrils are certified as family resorts.

Costa Blanca

This region of Spain is often called a children's health resort: summer warmth and dry air contribute to the health of children. On the beaches of the Costa Blanca you can sunbathe until mid-October, alternating beach holidays with excursions and entertainment.

Costa del Sol

Sunny Beach in the south of Spain is one of the most respectable resort regions. With all the advantages inherent in the country's resorts, it has only one disadvantage: the cool sea. For holidays with children, it is best to choose July-August, when the water warms up well.

Costa de Almeria

If you are looking for where to go to Spain with a child to get quality service and not encounter crowds of vacationers, you will be pleased with the province of Almeria. The beaches here are as good as anywhere in Spain, the sea is warmer than in the Costa del Sol, and the lack of entertainment is compensated by the entertainment program in the hotels. This is the only region where the all-inclusive concept is widely used.

Majorca

The largest of the Balearic Islands is suitable for both passive beach holidays and active excursions. There are wonderful beaches at every resort, but for entertainment you will have to go to several neighboring towns. One of the disadvantages of Mallorca is the difficulty of transfer.

Tenerife

The Canary Islands are often mentioned in connection with the question of which resorts in Spain are suitable for families with children during the winter holidays. Yes, winter in Tenerife is like a very warm spring.

It is cold to swim at this time, but the weather is ideal for walks and excursions. Two important advantages of Tenerife are the very warm sea in September-October and good weather all year round. The only downside, perhaps, is the long flight.

Hotels

Before you read about hotels in Spain, think about how you plan to spend your time?

Most likely, the answer will be: sunbathe and swim a lot, dine in colorful restaurants, explore nearby attractions, spend time in water parks and even go to one of the major cities.

Spanish hotels are designed specifically for the fact that you will only spend the night within the walls of your room and wait out the siesta.

You will definitely receive high-quality service, but you won’t find a huge area with many swimming pools and playgrounds, as is the case in Turkey or in hotels in Egypt.

In short, the peculiarity of hotels in Spain is the small territory and the unpopularity of the all-inclusive concept.

At the same time, the service is at a high level everywhere. Rooms are usually small, although in Catalonia, for example, certified family rooms must be two-room. There are practically no hotels located right on the shore here: usually there is a highway or promenade between the hotels and the beach.

While on vacation with a child, it is convenient to rent an apartment or a room in an apart-hotel. Almost all resorts in Spain for families with children can offer this type of accommodation. The advantages of this option are more spacious housing, the ability to cook food and live at a pace that is convenient for your family.

Meanwhile, full family holiday unthinkable without the younger members of the family. The choice of country as the final destination of the trip is determined, first of all, by the fact How acceptable will the climate be for the baby?.

Countries with a pronounced continental climate are not very suitable in this regard - both tropical, northern or eastern.

Considering these two important points, opt for European state will be the right decision.

At the same time, parents want their children to be able to enjoy a beach holiday, and see something new, unusual, interesting, and observe how people live in other cities. All this is organically combined in the vastness of Spain.

The most interesting thing is that in terms of natural and climatic conditions, Spanish resorts are very diverse, which means there is a choice. True, in terms of the season, it’s still worth sticking to the established trend - It is better to plan a holiday in Spain with children at sea for the period from June to September, it is at this time that the air temperature here is within 30°C.

At the beginning of August, large popular resorts have a high influx of tourists, so at this time it is more comfortable for families with children to relax in small resort towns.

El Paradis – kilometer beach strip with fine sand, playgrounds, cafes. An amazing place for a family holiday, which has been awarded the Blue Flag.

There is an opinion that the place is too noisy and crowded for families with children, but this is not so. On Poniente and further towards Finestrat it is very calm. And this is more than half the coastline of Benidorm.

Crystal clear sea water with low waves and many water attractions will bring a lot of pleasure to the little ones. The town of Villajoyosa, where the beach is located, is an hour's drive from the airport.

In addition to the health benefits of natural and climatic features In this non-mainland part of Spain, it should also be noted that the entire local infrastructure is almost ideally suited to children's holidays.

There are hotels of various levels of service, a large selection of entertainment (including for the little ones), and shops offer a fairly familiar range of children's goods of European quality.

note that in the north of Tenerife you will most likely have to swim in pools, especially with children. The black sand beaches are spectacular, but in this part of the island the ocean waves are large and treacherous. They tend to pull swimmers into the ocean. And even healthy adults can find it difficult to swim ashore, especially since the bottom is often rocky, which makes it difficult to both enter and leave the sea.

In the south of Tenerife, in particular, in the resort of Playa de las Americas, beaches with light sand, strong winds and waves are much less. But Tenerife is not only beaches; children will go crazy if you take them to Loro Parque or Siam Park.

Ibiza

Ibiza – a resort for young people, where incendiary parties are held daily. But for families with children in Santa Eularia das Rio and Portinace they have created all the conditions for a good rest. The pricing policy is loyal to tourists, there are high-quality beaches with excellent infrastructure.

Ibiza has several dozen beaches; The swimming season here opens in May, and the Velvet season- early October. Tourists with children who do not like expression and noise are recommended to go to northern part islands and settle down in a quiet fishing spot on the beach of Cala de Portinatx.

Guests with children often choose the famous Platja des Canar, which is located in the south-eastern part of Ibiza and is a horseshoe-shaped bay. Cala Vedella is a wide beach with white sand, closed by pine forest and rocks as well wonderful place for family holidays.

Majorca

Holidays on the island of Mallorca with children are another island option. As a beach holiday - one of the best. With the caveat that if you want to see historical sights between the beaches, then only in Palma, its capital, you can do this.

Map of the beaches of the island of Mallorca

Therefore, Mallorca is a country of beaches with white sands, sea and sun. In Spain they jokingly call it Alemania, from the word “aleman” - German, because. historically lives there a large number of people of this nationality.

There are more than 80 beaches on the island- from urban to wild, where you can get there either by car or by sailing on a yacht. For a comfortable stay, of course, you need to rent a car, because... The city beaches are very crowded. Spend your entire vacation on the nearest beach, where you can walk or take a ride. public buses, and not seeing all the beauties of the island for yourself and not showing it to your children is simply unacceptable.

Read more about the resorts and beaches of Mallorca in.

It is better to rent a car in advance on the Internet - this way you will be sure that upon arrival the car will already be waiting for you in the parking lot. You can do it on site at the airport, but keep in mind that there are long queues at the rental counters in the summer; it can be tiring to stand in line with small children (it can be long).

You can drive the entire island from one end to the other in 1-1.5 hours, depending on how many times along the way you stop to admire the mountains, local small villages, etc.

Accommodation in an apartment or hotel in Mallorca will be more expensive than in the Canary Islands. This is explained by a higher standard of living (slightly lower than the richest regions of Spain - the Basque Country and Catalonia).

With the exception of wild places, the beach infrastructure is fully presented - from lifeguards to umbrellas and sunbeds. The latter are paid, as elsewhere in Spain. It is better to go swimming in the morning - there are not many people yet and the water is clean.

When planning your vacation, please note that It often rains on the island in September, so the arrival schedule needs to be shifted to an earlier date, for example, to August, where it may rain once during the month.

Nutrition

Tourists prefer not to choose an all-inclusive food system at a hotel, because they are deprived of the opportunity to try delicious dishes of Spanish cuisine: gazpacho, paella, tortilla, etc. In restaurants, it is impossible to entice children to enjoy local pastries.

This article reviews the 20 best cafes, pizzerias, pubs and restaurants in the city.

Restaurant menus for children offer not entirely healthy food: pizza, French fries, nuggets, preparations for making hamburgers, etc.

Advice to parents: it is better to book accommodation in a hotel with a kitchen, apartments and prepare food for the children at any time: fruit purees, porridge, vegetable stew.

If the baby is under one year old, it is enough to ask the hotel staff for an electric kettle for preparing cereals and baby formula. IN family hotels They provide a bottle sterilizer, a high chair, and other accessories for caring for your little one.

In Spanish supermarkets or local markets you can buy food for the youngest family member: cottage cheese, seafood, vegetables, cereals, fruits, milk, baby formula. Pharmacies also sell special children's food.

Buy fragrant baked goods and confectionery for little sweet tooths in small family stores. They will also make a delicious sandwich for your child from homemade bread with cheese and tomatoes.

Before the weekend, you need to stock up on groceries, because usually in stores Saturday is a short day, and Sunday is a day off. But this schedule does not apply to supermarkets.

How to choose the right hotel for a family holiday

Actually, a hotel for staying with children in Spain may not necessarily be 5-star, however You should not book a hotel below 3 stars.

It is also necessary to clarify in advance how far the hotel is from the city center and from the beach, and whether there is a doctor there.

Some hotels offer cots and babysitting assistance. free bonus . Some hotels have children's clubs designed for the age limit of 4-12 years; the list of services may include children's discos, animation programs, both evening and daytime.

In terms of price, hotels vary as well as the lists of services they provide.

Please note that most Russians have switched to Spain instead of the usual Turkey and Egypt, and vacationers from Europe usually go to bask in the southern sun. Therefore, it is wise to book hotel rooms in advance for summer season, especially since last minute discounts reach up to 60%.

Most Popular hotels in Salou for Russian-speaking tourists :

There is a kitchen corner with the necessary utensils, and local supermarkets have a large selection of baby food and you don’t need to take it with you.

For example, if you select 4-star Hotel Four Elements Suites, located in Costa Daurada, Salou, then based on prices in July 2019, check-in 8 days/7 nights for two people is estimated at 54 thousand rubles. I want to share my experience of traveling to Spain with a child. The first time we flew to Spain was in October 2015, when our daughter was 11 months old. The second time was in July 2016 when she was 1 year 9 months old. Both of our trips went very well, we all had a rest, gained new impressions and strength.

How our trip went.
Vacation time: for the first time, on the advice of relatives, we flew on vacation in early October. This is already the very end of the season, but in some places in Spain you can still relax and enjoy the warm weather and the sea. The second time we vacationed was at the height of the tourist season in August. I liked my vacation in October more. First of all, I don't like extreme heat, especially since we were vacationing with a child, for whom long exposure to the sun is not advisable. In August, we had to leave the beach at 12 o’clock, because after that the terrible heat began and it was simply dangerous for a child’s health to remain on the beach, even under an umbrella. From 12 to 16 o'clock we had no desire to go outside at all because of the heat. In October, of course, there was no such heat and we could easily walk around the city at any time convenient for us. But it is worth noting that in October there were a couple of rainy and a couple of cloudy days. Cloudy days were perfect for tourist trips. Secondly, prices at the end of the tourist season are much lower and the trip is much cheaper. And of course, at the end of the season there are significantly fewer vacationers on the beaches and in tourist places.

Flight. Both times we flew from Moscow on direct flights to Barcelona, the flight duration was about 4.5 hours. My daughter endured all the flights well, without screaming, crying or hysterics. When we flew at 11 months, the child was on guard duty - this significantly simplified the matter. At 1.9, already without GV, the child became more conscious and we entertained her throughout the flight. We took stickers with us (she played with them the longest), books, new toys, and, as a last resort, downloaded a cartoon onto our phone (they turned it on only once, when, upon returning to Moscow, our plane was grounded due to weather conditions delayed for 30-40 minutes).

Insurance. We took out insurance both times and fortunately never used it. The cost of insurance is about 2,000 rubles, the amount of coverage is 50,000 euros. Our friends who live in Spain in the summer used insurance several times and told us how it happens. If something is bothering your baby or you, call the phone number indicated in the insurance policy, a Russian-speaking doctor will come, conduct an examination, prescribe medications (the cost of which, by the way, can then be reimbursed by the insurance company).

What did you take for the child:
Both times we took the stroller with the Happy Baby Cindy cane. I can’t imagine both of our trips without her.

When the child became older, they took the Happy Baby Mini Potty travel potty, which folds into a small handbag measuring 20*20*10 cm. The potty was bought specifically for travel, the cost is about 700 rubles. It would have been possible to buy a regular potty locally in Spain, but since we still had trips ahead, we decided to buy a special travel potty.

Of course, just in case, we took a first aid kit. Here, every mother knows what is best to take for her child; there are a lot of sample lists on the Internet.

Nutrition. Both times we had an apartment with a kitchen, so I could cook for my daughter whatever I saw fit.

In supermarkets you can easily buy all the necessary products, including baby food, water. From Moscow I only took a pack of porridge that does not need to be boiled in order to cook it quickly. The first time I also took vegetable purees so that during walks I could feed the child, but my daughter did not eat “local” purees.

The shops. You can buy everything you need in supermarkets. For the child, we bought local diapers (we were satisfied), sun protection, and various toys, balls, etc.

Attitude towards children. Spain perfect place for holidays with children. They love children here, they don’t bother anyone, and locals with children go almost everywhere. Such a huge number of parents with children in shopping centers, I’ve probably never seen one in Russia, everywhere there is a ramp for strollers and children’s toilets.

Beach. All the beaches where we vacationed had entertainment for children, swings, slides, etc.

Tourist program. Our first time in Spain we lived in Salou.

From Salou we took a bus to the Port Aventura amusement park which is nearby. I wrote about our visit to the park and how we saved 20 euros from each ticket.

We also took a risk on a longer journey from Salou by bus to Barcelona. I also wrote about this trip detailed review Sightseeing tour of Barcelona from Salou

The second time we vacationed in the non-tourist town of Alfaz del Pi. We already rented a car here, since we couldn’t do without it.

We took a walk through the Sierra Gelada park, the park is located along the coastline and leads to the el Faro del Albir lighthouse. The total length is about 5 km, the route is easy, flat and safe, we walked along it with a stroller without any problems. And the views that open up during the walk are simply mesmerizing.

We visited Benidorm, which, thanks to its skyscrapers, received the nickname “Spanish Manhattan”.

In Benidorm we attended a free street puppet show.

During all the travels, the child did not experience acclimatization or unreasonable changes in mood. I received a powerful charge of positivity and diversified my “mom’s” everyday life. Well, for a child during his travels there were a lot of impressions. I’m glad that, despite all my doubts, I decided to go on a trip to the sea with my child. And I chose such a wonderful place for this.

Spanish resorts deservedly attract tourists with their Cote d'Azur and fabulous beautiful beaches. In addition, there is also a lot of interesting things for inquisitive travelers. But what about the child? Parents strive to find the best option for the baby and themselves, so that everyone is comfortable. Is it possible to find harmony?

Benefits of holidays in Spain for children

If you decide to go to sunny resort outside the country, then Spain is one of the best options. There are a lot of places here designed specifically for family vacations, and every child will find a lot of interesting things for themselves, so the vacation will be unforgettable. A number of factors will contribute to this:

  • Warm, fairly mild Mediterranean climate;
  • Beautiful nature: smooth, literally emerald sea, golden beaches that stretch for many kilometers along the coast, amazing vegetation;
  • A large selection of hotels designed for families with children, with very good service;
  • Simultaneous opportunity to relax on the islands and the mainland in one trip;
  • Availability of a huge number of entertainments that children can attend;
  • Spain has a rich historical past and amazing architectural views, so you can take a walk there for educational purposes;
  • The Spaniards are very friendly, especially towards children.

Trip planning

Of course, a vacation with children should be carefully planned to avoid any unpleasant surprises. The optimal period for such trips is considered to be 21 days. During this time, the body has time to properly adapt, switching to new climatic conditions, and begin to fully rest. This rule applies primarily to small vacationers. Of course, the financial side is also very important, but it doesn’t make sense to go to Spain with your baby for a couple of days: there will be no benefit from the trip.

You need to pay special attention to choosing a hotel. There are rumors that “3 star” hotels in Spanish resorts are the same as “5 star” hotels, say, in Turkey. In practice, everything is not so, if you decide to save on a hotel, then in a three-star apartment you will not only not have useful water aerobics, but also the necessary beach towels, and entertainment will be very scarce. It’s better to strain yourself financially so that you can remember your vacation with pleasure and a smile on your face. You should pay attention in advance to the size of the room.

Typically, the “Standard” class requires 16 square meters; this will not be enough for every family. The number of beds in the room is also discussed in advance, since it is not always possible to fully satisfy the client’s wishes on site during the high season.

It’s good if you can rent an apartment on your own near the sea, while at the same time renting a car for walking. You shouldn’t tie yourself in advance to the obligation to eat only on the spot (this is often required by representatives of travel agencies). In practice, products in local supermarkets are inexpensive, and they also differ good quality, so you can save money by buying at least some of your food there. Stories that they will start selling you spoiled products are not true because Spain has high standards for the service sector.

Relax on sunny beaches Be careful with children. It is better to use high-quality sunscreen (its factor should be at least 30) and do not forget about hats. The siesta time of noon until 16:00 is to stay in a cool hotel room, sheltered from the sun's rays. For those little ones who literally cannot be pulled out of the water, there are indoor swimming pools on the hotel premises, but it is worth considering that the water in them is much cooler than in the sea. Yes and completely neglect sea bathing doesn't make sense. The benefits of salt water for the body are very great, and the best option would be a hotel with a pool filled with salt water.

Do not deny your children the pleasure of seeing undersea world. Of course, it is too early for them to engage in diving to the fullest, but snorkeling is an exciting activity that will give a lot of impressions. A little diver will definitely get a lot of impressions from the colorful fish, starfish, crabs and mussels waiting at the bottom of the sea. And for the little ones who don’t yet know how to use a mask, or are simply afraid of this kind of activity, it’s worth showing small crabs hiding in small rock crevices.

Where to go with small children?

For a quiet family holiday, it is better to give preference to remote resorts, without huge crowds of people, with clean, spacious beaches and high-quality service. Thus, most hotels in Catalonia are aimed specifically at clients with children. Such places offer services and qualified nannies so that parents can devote time to themselves during their vacation. Hotels of this class also employ specially trained medical staff, which allows them to immediately respond to any deviations in the baby’s health.

IN Spanish Catalonia there is a wonderful, relatively even climate and almost always wonderful weather, so it’s quite comfortable to relax there with little travelers. The versatility of nature in this area suggests many not only useful, but also exciting walks along the nature reserves. The variety of landscapes is also amazing: the sea, the mountains, and the forest. Everyone who comes here on vacation with their kids is satisfied.

Holidays in Spain with a child 5-12 years old

At this age, most children are active and inquisitive. In this regard, just parks and beaches are not enough for young travelers. To spend active time with their children, parents traditionally prefer a holiday on the Costa Dourada. Entrance to the sea local beaches It is very convenient for children, so they can frolic in the water on their own (of course, under the supervision of experienced adults). And the sandy beaches themselves, of indescribable beauty, suggest playing in the sand in close proximity to the water, where mischievous kids can simultaneously have an interesting time and have time to improve their health.

Among the places you should definitely visit with your child:

  • “Aventura Aquatic” is not just a park, but an entire entertainment center, with a lot of attractions for children of all ages;
  • Costa Caribbean - a water park with many water slides;
  • Aqualeon is a safari park where you can not only meet different animals, but also visit a museum of tropical plants.

If the child is about five years old, then you need to take care in advance to create the most comfortable conditions for him. To do this, you need to pay attention to the following points:

  • Availability of a children's menu in the hotel restaurant;
  • Proximity to the beach;
  • Entertainment towns for kids on the territory of the hotel;
  • Availability of animators;
  • Swimming instructors and hotel pools;
  • Separate extra bed for the baby.

The presence of Russian-speaking staff is important to make the child feel more comfortable.

Spain for teenagers

You can travel with teenage children almost anywhere. But the holiday should be both interesting for both the child and his parents, so it is worth choosing resorts where conditions for a safe pastime have been created for a teenager. Representatives of this age group are already striving for independence, so it is worth choosing a place with a specialized teenage center. Not only is there a lot of entertainment there: a child can not only become closer to Spain itself, but also touch other cultures, learn to communicate with tourists from different countries, speak other languages. Of course, parents will also find something to do in such a place. Usually, Costa Brava is preferred for such a vacation.

There is not only magnificent nature here, but also a unique climate: even in the hottest months it is not very suffocating here, so walks promise to be quite pleasant. The beaches are not only comfortable, but also interesting: in some places the azure sea touches immutable rocks. This area is perfect for those who want to go diving. There is a lot of interesting stuff here to fill the educational component: a lot of museums, exhibitions and galleries are always welcome to visitors. Almost every hotel has its own discos, excursions, and animation programs that take into account the characteristics of adolescence.

The most popular places to relax with children

Of course, you shouldn’t drag your child to some youth spanish resort like Ibiza, Salou or Benidorm. The relatively calm place of the Costa del Sol is also not suitable, since the cold sea current there will not allow the baby to swim enough, which means there will be much less pleasure. A children's resort must be equipped with everything necessary, and also create conditions for relaxation for each family member. It is believed that places such as the Costa Brava, Costa Dorada and the well-known Canary Islands possess these qualities.

Costa Brava

This resort area in North-East Spain. The best place to stay is in Blanes or Tossa de Mar. There are many hotels here designed for a good family vacation with everything necessary for the most capricious kids. The hotels are located almost on the coast, so it won’t take long to get to the sunny beaches. Restaurants are ready to please you with a good children's menu and offer several options for adult meals to choose from. In Costa Brava, it is worth visiting the zoo (it also has a dolphinarium), a botanical garden and the popular Marineland water park.

Costa Dorada

Attracts tourists due to its proximity to Port Aventura park, which is considered no less popular than Disney Land. You can also visit a popular place among vacationers - La Pineda. There are hotels, places for recreation, beaches, restaurants, mini-clubs and playgrounds here, so wherever the little fidget takes his parents, he will be interested everywhere. Interestingly, each hotel here has its own thematic style (it could be the Wild West, Mexico, Mediterranean classics). True, you will have to walk to the sea, but it’s just a stone’s throw to the amusement park. Guests of local hotels have discounts on the water park.

Canary Islands

This place is not suitable for those who want to save money, since a vacation here is not cheap. Most tourists with children are actually big island this group is Tenerife. Natural features The area allows you to admire the incredible beauty of the descent to the sea right from your room window. Here you can not only bask on the sunny beaches, but also visit the top of the Teide volcano (the funicular will help you get there), Parrot Park and Eagle Park. The kids will definitely enjoy the two local water parks.

Precautions

Once you find yourself in Turkey or Egypt, you can stay on the hotel premises almost all the time with your children, but in the case of Spain this will be a crime. You need to find time to travel to Barcelona, visit a bloodless bullfight, an evening with Spanish flamenco, the city-museum of Tarragona, located under open air, and a lot of others unique places. To do this, you need to take a number of precautionary measures in advance:

  • Take into account the humid climate of Spain, and do not try to give your children a lot of water in the heat. When traveling with children (wherever you decide to go while in this country), take care of food: children must be well-fed. But you definitely shouldn’t force-feed, because due to the high humidity of the local climate, the babies are not at risk of dehydration. Excess water will force you to search for a toilet instead of an excursion.
  • Place a note in your child’s pocket in advance, which will indicate his and your name, the phone number of the parents and the hotel. It would be better if the note also talks about a reward for the person who delivers the baby home. Find an opportunity to write the text not only in Russian, but also in English and Spanish. Everyone considers themselves a very attentive parent, but, alas, lost toddlers are not at all uncommon, so it is better to warn yourself in advance.
