This article begins a description of our new travels in America. In general, I didn’t think that we would travel such a distance again, but my husband retired, and having nothing to do, he suddenly developed a craving for distant travels. And since our visa to the USA had not yet expired, we decided to use the opportunity to ride unhindered, and Ksyusha supported us. So, it took almost 24 hours to get from Almaty to Los Angeles: 6 hours to Istanbul and more than 13 hours from Istanbul to Los Angeles, plus the transfer took 2.5 hours. To relieve stress from such a long flight, I would like to communicate with nature, but in such a way that it does not take a long time to get to it.

Let me start with the fact that all over the world (including, oddly enough, even) brown signs mean some sites of interest to tourists - natural and cultural attractions, museums, historical monuments. But not in Review. There is practically nothing to look at in Obzor, so absolutely all available signs here are brown. Of the new ones, anyway. Well, I thought I was done with traveling in Germany, but it turns out there are still a lot of impressions left in my thoughts and photographs. And recently Ksyusha reminded me of one thing short trip to the village of Pehau. Now this is not a village, but a part of Magdeburg, one of its districts, and it is located 5 km from Altstadt on the right bank of the Elbe, between the Old Elbe and the Ele River. We went there at the end of the day, just for a walk, but it also has its own attractions and its own history. Pehau was first mentioned in written sources in 948 as “Pechovi” (from Slovak - stove, hearth, and from Proto-Slavic - anxiety). Are excursions in Pattaya on your own worth it?

On forums about Thailand, there is an opinion that it is always better to go on all the excursions on your own, that a guide only gets in the way, and that you can see more of everything.

To be honest, I don’t quite share this point of view. For example, if you and a small child decide to visit the Elephant Farm, then you can only get there by taxi. Why overpay for a taxi if the excursion costs the same as admission ticket. Those. in fact, they will pick you up from your hotel and return you home for free - It’s more profitable to take an excursion to such places.

I’ll add that many of Pattaya’s attractions have hidden places that even long-livers don’t know about, for example, almost no one knows where you can ride elephants, and you’re also unlikely to find the long-necked Koren tribe yourself.

And the last point is when to take organized excursion instead of self-guided tours, these are exclusive tours. So it will be very difficult for you to get to Monkey Island near Pattaya, the Oyster Farm and many other places where excursions are organized.

We tried to make a list of which Pattaya attractions are best to visit on your own. We highly recommend having this list on hand if the weather suddenly becomes cloudy, or if you’re simply in the mood to visit something new.

Khao Kheo Zoo

The zoo is a must visit! I do not recommend taking a tour here, because... they pass many interesting places, i.e. with a tour you will see 50% of what is here. You are unlikely to be taken to the section with aquatic animals, where through transparent glass you can watch a swimming hippopotamus or penguins diving from the second floor; you may not even be stopped at the birdcage, where there are multi-level passages with waterfalls and huge Toucans; you will be taken to only one approach to the giraffe, where there is a crowd of Chinese, but they will not stop you on the other side, where you can calmly admire all the animals from the Heights. It’s better to devote the whole day to the Zoo and be sure to go around by transport: your own bike, taxi, rent an electric car at the entrance. Although at the very beginning you have to stop every 5 minutes and this is wildly annoying - then the distances increase sharply to 5 kilometers.

Golden Buddha Hill

Excursions to the Golden Buddha are offered as needed. Most likely they just deliver it to . They don’t bring it to the Beautiful Chinese Garden at all. Of course, if you take an excursion, you can get free transport, because there is no public transport here. But if you eat on your own, you can visit the Golden Buddha, Chinese garden, observation deck, and end the day at the chic restaurant Zucchini and Condomy.

Underwater World Pattaya

After the reconstruction in 2014, an excellent aquarium, I liked it much more than in Bangkok, and the Pattaya one costs 2 times more. If you are not spoiled by excellent aquariums, you want to watch sharks swim above you, feed fish from your hands, look at stingrays and much, much more - it’s better to go yourself. You won't win in terms of price, but you will have much more time. I walked here for probably 4 hours, constantly returning to previous halls or waiting for the next group to pass.

Nong Nooch Garden

One of the most interesting places in Pattaya! Many people go to this city just for this garden, and I’ll tell you honestly that if you are not spoiled by travel and don’t fly to Europe for the weekend, then this garden will blow your mind! It's definitely worth spending the whole day there. Nong Nooch Garden is a stunning blend of landscape design and Thai imagination. If you want to bring from Thailand nice photos- then you should go to Nong Nooch Park.

Visit Nong Nooch on your own: It is located about 30 km from the city, far from the Tak-Tuk route. But at the park itself you can order a free transfer from your hotel. It will be quite interesting for children, because... there are a lot of interactive sculptures that you can touch

Temple of Truth

One of the most famous temples Thailand and the most famous in Pattaya! One of the Thai millionaires initially builds the Thai Wonder of the World and he comes up with a magnificent wooden temple! The level of skill is simply amazing, so I highly recommend going there. Every hour there is a tour in Russian, but I didn’t really like it because... there are a lot of “statistics” and few living stories.

Visit the Temple of Truth on your own: Getting to the Temple of Truth is quite difficult, the road goes through small alleys and with constant turns, so either take a taxi or an online map. The cafe on site is expensive and tasteless, and entertainment is expensive, so children may get bored.

Miniature Park Mini Siam

A park in which the main attractions of the whole world are recreated in miniature. More precisely, the park is divided into 2 parts: Sights of the world and sights of Thailand. The park is especially beautifully transformed in the evening, when all the attractions are illuminated. That is why it is better to visit the park around 17.00, so you will be able to see everything both during daylight and at night. You can also take a free sun umbrella at the entrance, because... There is very little shade in the area.

Visit Mini Siam on your own: It is located on Sukhumvit within the city limits, so you can easily get there by tuk-tuk. They sell ice cream and excellent brewed coffee on site, and right next door there is a McDonald's, Karting, a Plant Market, and an Arena for Thai fights, where real serious tournaments are held! The kids love it here!

Crocodile Farm and Million Year Stones Park

I expected a boring tourist place from the crocodile farm, but I was very much mistaken. The farm owners organized more than worthy entertainment! My favorite thing was feeding the crocodiles with chicken from a fishing rod, crocodile steak, and the rock garden! Didn't like: crocodile show.
Visit the crocodile farm on your own: You can only get to it by your own transport, which is of course a minus, but I wouldn’t go here with a guide either, because... Groups ran past us several times. The problem with excursions is that the guide has nothing to tell - everything is brand new, and you need to do a lot of excursions a day, so they just run with tourists along the main route, then give them 30 minutes to walk around on their own and immediately take them away. And it’s very cool to take a walk on the farm - there are active tigers, a zoo with giraffes, large playgrounds and much more. Therefore, it is better to order a transfer, but not an excursion. It is worth visiting with children, there is a lot of interesting things for them.

Three Kingdoms Park

A very good Chinese-style theme park, and there is a free car museum park very close by. Here you can rent Chinese national costumes and take great photos. Overall excellent quiet place with good views.

Three Kingdoms Park is one of the non-tourist attractions of Pattaya, and is also located on its outskirts, so public transport does not go here. During the winter, we really liked to come here for a walk, but if I had been in Pattaya for just a couple of weeks, I would have chosen something else.

Tiger Zoo in SiRacha

As the name implies, this is a zoo where much attention is paid to tigers. Here you can feed the tiger cubs from a bottle (this is just the most mi-mi-mi, all the girls are delighted), play with them in the enclosures, and watch a tiger show. Of course, there are other animals: elephants, piglets, and goats. Everyone can be fed and everyone can be ridden. Apart from the tiger cubs, the zoo is inferior to Khao Kheo, but you can go there.

Go to the Sriracha Tiger Zoo on your own: Children, of course, will be interested, but there are tigers + Thai carelessness. If a child behaves inappropriately, the tiger will attack. The zoo is 40 km away. from Pattaya and 7 from the highway. (But very close to Khao Kheo).

Sheep farms

As of 2016, there are 2 large sheep farms in Pattaya. One is simpler, where it’s nice to relax: you let the children into the rabbits’ enclosure, and you yourself sit in the shade of the trees with a delicious cocktail. The second one is more touristy - the sheep there are like something out of a cartoon: perfectly clean, with very soft wool, on the territory itself a large number of places for interesting photographs, but it’s just like in a museum, i.e. You can’t sit and relax.

Silver Lake

Famous Thai vineyard. Very tasty grapes and homemade wine are grown and sold here. They can only be purchased here. The park became famous because... He was the first to place interesting elements for photographs on his territory. Various flower swings, or a huge pumpkin with a huge watering can.

Visit Silver Lake on your own: Little shade, large area for walking under open air. Otherwise everything is very interesting.

Elephant Village

The elephant village is very ambiguous. This was actually the first attraction that we visited in Pattaya on our own. It turned out that there are several farms in Pattaya: about 3, and you can ride elephants almost everywhere. Best Show Elephant Tour takes place in Nong Nooch Park. And the skating itself is quite boring, you sit and swing and realize that in the next 30 minutes you will only ride 500 meters, i.e. you can really see the destination you will be driving towards. But on the other hand, the guide told the story that before there were a lot of elephants in Thailand and they were used for work, but then this was banned, and the mahouts could not feed the elephants, so they were simply shot. For example, in Cambodia and Laos at one time there were no elephants left at all. The Thais came up with Elephant Farms so that tourists would come to admire and feed the animals. Only thanks to this it is possible to save these animals. That's why we try to feed the elephants in any place =) They are cool.

Transvestite show: Alcazar show, Colosseum, Tiffany

All shows are approximately the same and all follow the same scenario: some popular song starts, a boy dressed as a girl comes out to it and opens his mouth, and other boys dressed as girls dance around. Previously, this was unusual for us, so the show gained enormous popularity, but now boys dress up as girls, grow beards and sing on TV, so people attend the show simply because of the image, and not because there is something interesting there.

floating market

The place is interesting, but 100% touristic. Those. they dug 3 canals from scratch, put in traders there with small tourist items and a 300% markup, set them up around the shops and called it all a floating market. I would go for the exotic stuff, but everything there is very sleek and very small. If this is your first time in Thailand, then you can take a look.

Visit the floating market on your own: children will be bored, you can get there on a white tuk-tuk, which runs around Sukhumvit.

Dinosaur Park

Designed to be an amazing place to take your kids for a walk, where you'll encounter full-size moving dinosaur statues in the middle of the jungle. But as of 2014, the park is in decline. There are no visitors, the statues are falling apart, nothing is moving, entry costs 500 baht. The only plus is that at the entrance to the Park there is a giant dinosaur skull, the size of an adult human. It attracts attention. But there is nothing to do inside!

Wat Yan Temple

An active temple complex. Of all the temples around Pattaya, Wat Yang is the most unusual. Many admire its shape, many are decorated with bushes, many really like the inside of the temple. There are wax statues of mnachs there - they look amazing! More precisely, I would advise visiting the temple itself precisely because of them, because... Wat Yan, upon closer inspection, does not seem so chic, especially since you can’t go inside it, and the gates boarded up with boards generally spoil the impression. Behind the temple there is a mountain with observation deck and the imprint of Buddha. The climb is hard and hot, and the view is not worth it. Therefore, this is not a mandatory part of the excursion.

Visit Wat Yan on your own: there is no public transport, children may be bored, women need clothes with covered ankles and shoulders, men with covered knees.

Chinese temple

Very close to Wat Yan there is a Chinese temple. And this is what I recommend. To be honest, I’m not a fan of art, or rather, I don’t understand it. But the temple contains very interesting sculptures - there are also soldiers from the Chinese Terracotta Army, there are Shaolin monks, there is a balcony with gorgeous view to the mountains. There is a park nearby where you can buy turtles and release them into the lake, or feed the fish.

Visit a Chinese temple on your own: There is no public transport, children will be bored, you need to walk around the temple without shoes, all the signs are in Chinese and English.

Rock Carving of the Golden Buddha

The largest rock image of Buddha in Thailand. It is laser cut into the rock and filled with gold leaf. There is a small park with gazebos around. Everything is very clean and tidy. Hidden away at the bus stop is one of the elephant farms. You will have to look for it, because... There are no identifying marks. It’s a pity, but in the evenings the rock is not illuminated, but it would be very beautiful.

Koh Larn island and its viewing platforms.

Koh Larn is the closest island to Pattaya. heavenly beaches. The swim is only 40 minutes. You can stay overnight on Koh Lan, and many people love it for its silence and starry sky, because... At night the island dies out, and in the morning you are the first to find yourself on the beach. I like to ride around Kolan on a bike, because... Its mountains offer stunning views!

Samet Island

Samet Island is considered national reserve, and its beaches are considered among the best in Thailand. In addition to tours to local hotels, tourists from Pattaya are also brought here to see good beaches. There is perfectly white fine sand and a magnificent blue sea. At night, tables or blankets are laid out on the beach and magnificent fire shows are organized on the beach for everyone. I highly recommend that you go here, but not as a tour, but on your own for the weekend.

Koh Sichang Island

The island that is presented as historical excursion. There really is something to see: This and Royal Palace, and the Katian temple, carved out of the rock, and stunning observation platforms. There is also a small beach on the island, which is completely empty on weekdays and fills up on holidays. Everyone leaves for the island from the city of Sirachi, where there is also a lot of interesting things to see (a pool with giant turtles)

Viewpoints in Pattaya

There are 2 official viewing platforms in Pattaya. One 24-hour service is very close to the Golden Buddha on Pratamnak, and the second is near the port with a large illuminated Pattaya sign. The second one closes after dark. Of course, every skyscraper can be considered an observation deck; the restaurant in the Pattaya Park Tower is also very popular.

Go to the observation decks on your own: Public transport does not go here, and there are no pedestrian paths; many people do not know and have to walk along the roadway. But when you get there, there are a lot of interesting things around each one that you won’t see on an organized excursion.

Temple of Hell and Heaven (Wat Saen Suk)

Located 60 kilometers from Pattaya. The place is strange, it shows in the form of sculptures the punishments that await sinners. And the sculptures are made very creepy. A murderer whose stomach is torn open and a raven eats his intestines, or a woman who drinks hot lead for drunkenness. IN general place very much not an amateur.
Visit the Temple of Heaven and Hell on your own: there is no public transport, all signs are in Thai, rarely in English, it’s better without children

Chicken King Farm

It’s difficult to call this place a landmark, but the structure is quite unusual, which is why it is often found in guidebooks. In fact, this is a banquet hall with beautiful grounds. I wouldn't go on purpose. The decoration of the territory is purely in Thai style: There are antique statues, but for the Thais they are too white, so the statues are dressed in real colorful clothes.

Take a trip to the Chicken King Farm on your own: Children will be bored; you can get there on a White tuk-tuk, which goes along Sukhumvit. Entrance to the territory is paid.

Museum of 3D paintings (Art paradise pattaya)

A museum of interactive paintings, when a painting can extend beyond its boundaries and you are invited to become part of this painting. It is in Pattaya that the museum is very well thought out and they try to take care of it so that there are no visible scuffs from frequent photographs, or peeling walls, etc. But on the other hand, such galleries have now begun to appear in all cities, including here in Russia (they definitely already exist in St. Petersburg and Moscow).

Its name is kind of soviet, as if the very rich Roma opened some kind of business for his Yana, we usually open beauty salons, but here is a water park, why not. But more than a year has passed and there is a huge amount of positive feedback and almost no negative ones. The only complaint about the water park is the price and buffet. The buffet is crap and everything is very overpriced.

Pattaya
What does the name of this international resort mean?
Well, firstly, Pattaya was not always a resort, but it was a very modest fishing village, which in the 60s, when the Vietnam War was going on, was chosen for recreation by the American military based in Thailand. Since then, word has spread about this place, money from tourists has flowed here and it has turned into quite a Big city. Even earlier, some kind of settlement apparently existed here, at least since 1767. And the emergence of this settlement is connected with the same events as the transfer of the capital of Siam from Ayutthaya to Bangkok (Krungthep).
When ancient Ayutthaya was besieged by Burmese troops, one of the most talented commanders of that time, Prince Thaksin, led 500 loyal warriors from the encirclement and led them to the place, or approximately the same, that we now call Pattaya.
A military camp was set up here and a base for further military operations was created. Prince Taksin managed to gather significant forces, and in the same year Ayutthaya was liberated, and Taksin was proclaimed the new king of Siam. So, the name of this place originally supposedly sounded like Thapphaya, which means “Army of the Prince” in Thai. Then, later, they began to pronounce Phattthaya (in Russian Pattaya), as if changing the syllables. Currently, the name Thapphaya is preserved in the name of one of the streets in Pattaya. However, there is another version of the origin of the city’s name.
Pattaya is the name of the southwest monsoon. True, it is written in Thai a little differently than the name of the city, but it sounds exactly the same. It can be assumed that at first the name of the place was actually associated more with historical events, and later began to be associated with its climatic features.

The approximate schedule of days of the week on the first Pattaya holiday was as follows:
The first half of the day is sea, sun and some new beach on the premises of a hotel.
It's about discovering new possibilities and trying out new places to go swimming.

The second half is at your hotel, shower, pool, change clothes and walk into the city.
Exploring new places, restaurants, places of entertainment, shops and just hiking with a photo shoot.
The next day is a rest from sunbathing, which means a trip to the sights. It's either a tour or independent trip, which is even more interesting to the location of cultural monuments, gardens, underwater worlds or wats.
And something like that.
We got up early to get everything done. But in Thailand, getting up early is never difficult, it’s just a shame to waste time. After all, the new day promises so many new and interesting things. And the sun sets at six, so we need to have time to enjoy it too.

In shops and on the streets we naturally met people, children, and these meetings were pleasant.

There were also Japanese restaurants in Pattaya, which at prices in Russia were very, very cheap, and delicious in cuisine.

And the first watermelon shake created a sensation and it was sad to part with this taste. My favorite drink.

There is a garden around the pool. And even though the hotel is in the very center of the city, the courtyard does not interfere with a quiet swim in the always pleasant water and coolness of the garden.

The chocolate fondue comes with a ton of ice cream and cupcakes and fruit...how did we know there was so much going into it. We also ordered a piece of cake, stupid. You can’t eat this together, you had to take someone else with you.

I tried oysters for the first time at a restaurant on Walt Street, and it turned out to be so cheap, despite the central location of the restaurant. Wallstreet, sea view.

And we ate this wonderful dish in a real wooden Japanese plate (and believe me, I understand this as a Japanese specialist) at the Japanese restaurant ZEN. I think those who have been to Pattaya know where it is.

I really liked this mural on the wall in our hotel. Not kitsch for sure.

Fat dogs are not uncommon in Thailand :). In Pattaya, they lay right on the narrow sidewalks, without fear that someone would step on them.
