Bulgaria is famous for many resorts, but the most popular are Golden Sands and Sunny Beach. Both have the Excelsior Hotel. Let's try to figure out what conditions for recreation they provide.

Excelsior 4, Bulgaria, Golden Sands

The Golden Sands resort is located on the Black Sea coast, about 18 km from the famous Varna. It is noteworthy that this territory national park, so there is picturesque nature and clean fresh air. In the central part of the resort, within walking distance from the bank, restaurants, numerous shops and entertainment centers The cozy modern hotel Excelsior 4 is located. The shore there is flat, entry into the water is convenient, you only have to pay for umbrellas and sunbeds. In addition to the beach, Golden Sands is interesting for its attractions, where excursions are organized. The most popular places among tourists are in the rock), a chapel and springs with healing water.

Hotel in Sunny Beach

There is another wonderful hotel called Excelsior, for many people it is associated with the delightful sea and cleanest beaches. No wonder this resort received the Blue Flag.

The resort is located about 90 km from Varna and within walking distance from famous city Nessebar. The Excelsior Hotel, classified as a three-star on many websites, is located a two-minute walk from the beach in well-kept green areas. Of the 148 rooms offered to guests for accommodation, 40 have a kitchenette (“Studio”), 93 “apartments” with one bedroom and 15 with two. All rooms are spacious and bright, with windows overlooking the sea or the surrounding area. Amenities include TV (satellite dishes), refrigerator, air conditioning, telephone, safe, toilet with shower, spacious balcony. The Internet can be used in the hotel lobby and on site. The food is supplied according to the " full board"in a restaurant. The food is delicious, lots of fresh fruit, vegetables, meat and fish dishes. Drinks are available at the pool bar or in the lobby. Kitchenettes are equipped with a stove and kitchenware, and groceries can be purchased from supermarkets located near the hotel.

Leisure

The Excelsior 4 hotel provides a lot of opportunities to have a great time. Bulgaria wins the hearts of tourists with its beauty, and the hotel with its exceptional service. On its territory there is a whole complex of swimming pools with different sizes and depths (from 70 cm to 130 cm), around each there are free umbrellas and sun loungers, and there is a bar.

For sports lovers there are billiards and tennis tables, for children there is a separate swimming pool and a playground with slides, swings, and carousels. The public beach is just a stone's throw from the hotel. Now almost every convenient piece of sand there is occupied by umbrellas and sun loungers (renting for the whole day costs 8 leva), but if you find a free spot, you can sit on your own towel. In addition to the beach, tourists are invited to take exciting excursions to Varna, Burgas (36 km from the hotel) and to the old part of Nessebar, which lies on a small peninsula.

Came to Lido di Jesolo for the first time. The flight from Moscow was late, so we ended up at the hotel late at night. I immediately noticed that the hotel’s appearance compares favorably with its neighbors, a small building, tastefully decorated and the only one nearby with a beautiful greenterritory. Everything is compact and very well thought out. Later, I was also surprised by the fact that with the hotel being 100% occupied during our period, there was no feeling of crampedness or crowding either on the beach or in the restaurant. Check-in went quickly and unnoticed; I had a room with a balcony and a side view of the sea. LCD TV in the room big size and 2 Russian channels 1 and Russia, and the picture quality is like home. Two separate beds pushed together, in my opinion very comfortable, with snow-white linen and a large sofa. I haven’t tried to unfold the sofa, but if I do, I think there will be no passage at all, the room is not large. Plenty of storage space, a large wardrobe with a safe and big amount hangers inside. The bathroom has two sinks, a bidet, a bathtub, everything is shiny, very clean. There was a set of towels, slippers, a standard set of bottles (I can’t say about the quality, I didn’t use it), a hairdryer was very weak, for whom it is important to take your own. There is plastic furniture on the small balcony. I dried my towels and swimsuit without any problems by hanging them on the railing. There is a minibar, I used it as a refrigerator, but there is no kettle or cups, only glasses. There are a lot of sockets in the room, but adapters are required, which Natalya gave me at the reception in the morning. She speaks excellent Russian and is downstairs from 9.30-13.00 and from 16.00-20.30. You can contact her with any question, she is always polite and attentive. From her I learned about the city, when and what works, about transport, procedures, etc. I'm not fluent English language, for me, having a person who willingly and kindly answers my endless questions turned out to be a pleasant surprise. I paid for breakfast and dinner. Everything is very tasty and there is a lot of it. For dinner, be sure to have three or four hot dishes from the chef. Every day is different, never repeated in a week. Very tasty grilled fish, tender meat, pasta with different sauces, lasagna, shrimp. Large selection of fruits, desserts, delicious cakes, ice cream. It’s impossible to list everything. I can say with confidence that the cook at the hotel is top class. I didn’t regret paying for the dinners. I visited local restaurants at lunchtime. The hotel is located, in my opinion, in the very convenient location. Everything is nearby, the main street, bars and restaurants, shops and parks. At the same time, the noise is not heard at all, although the balcony was always open at night. The hotel has a wonderful swimming pool, it is automatically heated to 26 degrees. There is a bar next to the pool, it opens at 10.30, right after breakfast ends. There is excellent coffee, all kinds of drinks, and you can order a snack at lunchtime. To pay, you don’t have to carry money, just say the number. You can pay when leaving the hotel. Everything is clear according to the receipts, I was not deceived (although there were additions in other hotels). Well, now about the beach. The hotel goes directly to the beach. Sunbeds are free, hotel-owned and there are many of them. In general, I repeat, there was no crowding anywhere. Sea with a smooth sunset, sand, perfect for children. You can rent catamarans. I didn’t see any bananas, parachutes or scooters. The sea is clear, but when it was a little stormy it became cloudy because of the sand. I think this is excellent hotel for all. It will be equally good for pensioners, young people, and families with children. Properly selected personnel. Everything for tourists, regardless of citizenship. I highly recommend it and will definitely return myself.

Hi all! If you are reading this, then you are wondering whether it is worth going to Bulgaria in general and Golden Sands in particular. I think that after reading you will make the right choice.
So, the end of August 2009. I urgently need a vacation, preferably 7-8 days, and definitely at sea - that’s what my wife and I decided and started studying options. Omitting all the details of the choice, we settled on the following: Bulgaria, Golden Sands, Excelsior 3* hotel (Primasol hotel chain), 7 days from September 4, all inclusive. The only negative is that there are practically no reviews about this hotel, and those that exist are not clear. Well, okay, in 3 days we received visas, took the child (6 years old) from the dacha and flew.
The flight was no problem, the meeting party “VASSY”, as expected, met us, took us to the hotel and left a phone number for contact. From Varna airport to Golden Sands it took 30-40 minutes. The hotel quickly checked in, and although lunch time ended in 5 minutes, we were calmly and tasty fed and the rest began.
The sea, as it is written in the hotel description, is really not close, but it didn’t bother me, because... A 500 meter walk never hurts. The path to the sea passes by hotels, shops, restaurants, trade stalls and takes about 10 minutes. There is also a shorter road, just behind the Sunrise Hotel (second photo) turn left and go down the stairs. This shortens 200 meters of the journey. Well, here comes the sea! The beach is sandy, large, but there are also enough people on it (opposite the main entrance, next to the Ferris wheel, photo 6). There are sunbeds, and as soon as you start to sit on them, a man runs up and starts demanding payment - 1 sunbed = 7 levs (1 lev = approximately 0.5 euros). Not weak!!! Later we walked to the left of the main entrance to the beach, there were fewer people there, and sat on towels. We saw “mats” of various sizes on sale, on which many vacationers sunbathe. The weather was good for the first two days and we went swimming twice a day. But on the third day the weather turned bad and we went to the pool. In Sunrise (a hotel from the same Primasol chain), on the contrary, there are several swimming pools (one indoor, heated), and in our hotel there is one outdoor, so we immediately went to Sunrise. We decided to start with the outdoor pools; they are located at different levels and have different depths. There are sun loungers, tables, umbrellas nearby - everything is as it should be. There is a bar by the upper pool.
About the Excelsior Hotel itself. Clean, comfortable, the room is cleaned every day and towels and bed linen are changed. Meals are 3 times a day, the choice of dishes is normal. The bar on the ground floor opens at 11 am; there is a standard selection of alcohol (the only thing that was a little surprising was the lack of whiskey). The staff, with the exception of one girl at the reception, understands Russian quite well. Vacationers are mainly from Germany, Romania and Russia. We met a nice couple from E-burg and a cheerful guy from Novosibirsk.
The good experience ended on the night of the third day. The child felt ill all night, very similar to poisoning. I think it’s the water, the sea or the pool (I don’t blame the food, because both my wife and I ate the same thing). Almost the entire next day the child did not eat anything, only drank tea and refused to take pills. Because and the next day there was no improvement, we decided to call a doctor at 6 am through the insurance company (ROSNO). As luck would have it, the receptionist was “completely Bulgarian” and didn’t understand a word of Russian. We couldn’t get through to the insurance company, so we contacted a representative of “VASSY”, she promised to quickly find a doctor. At about 11 o'clock a man called and introduced himself as the director. medical center, asked about the symptoms of the disease, said that most likely it was an intestinal infection and that he needed to go to the hospital URGENTLY. An hour later, he picked us up, brought us to his center, from there we contacted ROSNO and received their consent to hospitalization. Then they took us to the hospital in Varna, took tests from our son and assigned us to the infectious diseases department (together with my mother). They don’t feed anyone at the department, so I brought them food myself, fortunately there is a supermarket nearby. There I also bought a couple of SIM cards from a local telecom operator, because... Roaming is not cheap, but we had to communicate often. My wife and son lay there for 2.5 days; their son was given IV drips. The PSP I took on the trip and the presence of a TV (pay TV) in the room helped a lot. But during this time I had a lot of conversations with local residents and studied the Varna-Golden Sands route in detail. In general, the impression of communication is good.
In the evening, on the eve of the flight back to St. Petersburg, I took my family from the hospital to the hotel. We walked a little, sat for an hour in a restaurant... we no longer wanted to go to the sea. In the morning representatives of "VASSY" arrived, and I thought that the adventure was over.
But at Varna airport on this very day a lot of planes were flying to different countries, and the registration area is small. In short, there were crowds of people from 4-5 flights in a room designed for 2-3 flights. Heat, stuffiness, full of "pi......". After check-in, we finally found ourselves in a normal room, and through the "dutik" - onto the plane. As a result, the flight was delayed by 1 hour. The commander of our Boeing apologized for all the inconveniences, although he was the least to blame for this. All. A curtain.
Although no, upon arrival they took the child to the clinic, did tests - and again to the infectious diseases hospital, or at least to ours. SUCH infections, they say, do not go away in 4 days. Another 5 days of treatment and discharge. It must be said that the infection was specific, because... a day of communication between the child and grandmother after arrival, and she also leaves “by ambulance” to the infectious diseases hospital. That's it now. Thank God - everything worked out for everyone.
Finally, a little on prices in Bulgaria.
Bus from Golden Sands to Varna - 3 leva (free for children), taxi - 18-20 leva, but you can do it for 5-10 if it’s on the way or if he takes someone else besides you. I once managed to get there for 4 leva; two tourists from Poland were traveling along the way. It’s funny, the Polish women stubbornly did not understand the taxi driver, they tried to communicate with him in English, but he either spoke Bulgarian or Russian. We barely agreed.
It’s better to buy water in bottles of at least 2 liters, it’s much cheaper. Food - about the same money as ours. In Varna you can eat for 10-15 leva, in Golden Sands - at least 25-30 leva for the same dishes, it’s a resort after all. Toys and clothes are also at our price level.
Advice: if you are going to Bulgaria, it is better to go in early or mid-summer. In September there is a high probability of rain (although from "VASSY" they said that this is only true this year...) Well, probably look for a 4* or 5* hotel.
And next year we will go to Egypt! Last year we were there for 14 days, and everything was very wonderful, but that’s a separate review.
Happy holiday everyone!!!

At first we were given a room on a low floor with a balcony directly above the kitchen or utility rooms where the staff walked. After paying extra we got a room with a sea view on the sixth floor.

Excellent food, everything is clean, a good pool, there is always free space everywhere, both in the bar and in the dining room. There is a shuttle to the sea and back every hour. Funny animators. The audience is quite decent.

A bit far from the beach. I didn’t use the free minibus from the hotel to the beach; it was always crowded. The shortest route is 10 minutes: leaving the hotel to the left - to the intersection, to the right, to the pedestrian crossing, through it and a long way down the stairs. A stack of coins, 6 levs, was stolen during cleaning at the hotel. The banknotes were not touched. As you understand, I don’t feel sorry for the money, but the fact that I was robbed from my home is simply disgusting. Be careful and remove money, documents and valuables. There are only three sockets in the room: one for the refrigerator, the second for the TV, and only the third for you.

The hotel is really good. The room, after the tiny ones in Amsterdam, seemed huge to me. Everything is clean, everything is there. The food is tasty, plentiful and varied. Bar, wifi in the hall.

During lunch/dinner it is sometimes difficult to find a place at a table, maybe squeeze in more tables somewhere? :)

Excellent hotel, quite tasty breakfasts, lunches, dinners. Friendly staff. My room had a sea view (although not the first line, but still very nice). The pool is clean and there is a good playground for children. When checking in (which is from 14:00) remember that lunch only lasts until 14:30! So you'll have time if you hurry.

Paid wifi in the rooms - a day of internet costs about 7 euros! (it's free in the lobby) Euro exchange rate at the hotel - it's better to change it elsewhere.

At first, the distance from the beach is a little shocking - about 10-15 minutes on foot, it’s not even the second or third line, but then you realize that this is rather a plus - especially if you came for relaxing holiday. Discos at such a distance are practically inaudible, crowds of tourists do not walk past, and it is quite quiet at night. And a free minibus runs to the beach and back every hour. I recommend paying an extra 5 euros per night for the view; the windows on the upper floors overlook trees and a beautiful panorama of the sea. The rooms are not new, but the rooms themselves are spacious, large and comfortable beds, good bed linen and towels. The food is quite good, there is enough for everyone, the staff does a great job. There is an open kitchen - omelettes, bacon, pancakes are fried in the mornings, meat, flatbreads, and vegetables are served for lunch and dinner. Nice pool, plenty of sun loungers and a bar. The hotel is mainly visited by tourists from Germany and England, active students and equally active pensioners - so it won’t be boring. There is a large 24-hour supermarket and bus stop 409 nearby.

I found two disadvantages, in real life they are unnoticeable, but I hope they will be important for the hotel to improve its rating and quality: 1) It would be good to look after the bathroom more carefully: - it’s better to update (it looks outdated) - the drainage systems in the floor need to be checked (there were blockages) 2) After Check-out, we asked to hold our things at the reception for one hour to go to the sea - we were refused, arguing that we were checking out (although for many hotels, check-out is not a big excuse for refusing to accompany clients until full departure, especially in all inclusive). A small minus, since I understand the official arguments of the hotel, but still, to increase the level of hospitality and warm welcome, I advise you not to refuse basic things.

Friendly staff, they helped us a lot in a difficult situation - thank you very much. A very tasty buffet (it was clear that the chef was watching the cooks very closely - he personally checked all the dishes in the restaurant) - yes, not Turkey, but what a traveler needs - a full stomach, sea, beautiful landscapes cities and wine with dinner. The room is no frills - basic for a break, but has air conditioning, hairdryer and refrigerator. There is no safe in the room, but they were not afraid for their belongings, at least there are a lot of Germans in the hotel - I am sure that the staff treats their guests very responsibly. Some people may say that it is far from the sea, but in fact there is shortcut up the stairs through the Admiral Hotel: 5 - 7 minutes at a brisk pace and you are on the beach. There is a fast elevator. Swimming pool and kind, cheerful animators. This hotel will definitely delight its visitors with price and quality.
