The distance from Rome to Sperlonga is 115 km. The picturesque town of the Odyssey coast, thanks to its natural depressions and rugged coastline, gets its name from the Latin word “Speluncae” - depression. Ski resorts near Rome

Unfortunately, this segment of tourism is not very developed in Rome itself, so you won’t find mountains for skiing very close. However, there are still ski resorts in Italy near Rome, albeit at a distance of 100 km. Three years ago, the government of Rome wanted to begin construction of a complex for skiers near Ostia, but local residents did not accept such an innovation due to the crisis. Apparently three main ski resorts far from Rome it was enough for them:

Campo Felice.
Terminillo.
Campo Imperatore.

"Happy Field" or Campo Felice
A little-known place among tourists. This is the beauty of it. There are the same mountains and slopes here, but there are much fewer people, making skiing comfortable and safe. This resort is located in the Abruzzio region, and you can get to it either by car or by bus. The path will not be confusing - you will need to drive along the straight A24 highway for an hour and a half. Few people know about buses: per day, only one train travels from Rome in the direction of the “lucky field”. You will find this bus near the San Giovanni metro station at 7.15 am.

You have to drive to Campo Felice 120 km, but upon arrival you will find smooth ski slopes and friendly locals - there are practically no tourists in this place. Consider this an advantage, because the prices in this place will be much lower than in Rome and the food in a local restaurant will be tastier than the concoction of the capital’s eateries. Just be careful not to stay too long - the lifts turn off at 4 pm.

Terminillo

Another more popular resort among guests in Italy is Terminillo. You can get here either by highway or by train on rails. The journey will take approximately 1 hour.

If you choose the train as your transport, you will need to go from Riete station. Near this station is Terminillo, the most high mountain which was called the "Roman Mountain". Its height is 2.2 km, and the ski lifts serve maximum height 1.7 km, so another 500 m, if desired, can be covered on foot, we will conquer the top of the mountain. 26 km of Terminillo slopes will accommodate both beginners and pros - everyone will find a slope of suitable difficulty.

Campo Imperatore
Not such a popular ski resort due to the small number of slopes - there are less than 10 of them. But it’s not difficult to get to this place - you need to take the train to L`Aquila station.

In the city you will find many hotels, and the Apennine Mountains will not make you bored. However, there are more interesting places in Italy for lovers of snow-capped mountains. If you came to this country just for this, then we recommend staying not in Rome, but in Milan. From there it is much easier to get to the ski resorts and there is more choice.

Beach resorts near Rome

With this, everything is much simpler - Rome is located near the Tyrrhenian Sea, the coast of which is strewn with resort towns, bright stripes of beaches and a lot of tourists. We recommend that you go to the sea from Rome, regardless of the time of year - both in November and July it is equally beautiful, but you won’t always be able to buy it.

Lido di Osti
The most popular beach in Rome is in Ostia. It's just 28 km ways by car, or a short trip on the Roman metro from Piramides station to Lido di Ostia. If your main goal is the sea, then do not confuse Ostia Beach with Ostia Antico. Previously, this place was the greatest port of Rome, but over the years the sea moved away from the peninsula and historical city went deeper into the land. If you still find time, do not regret one day and go see the ruins of the once majestic city of Ostia.

As for the quality of beach holidays in Ostia, it is difficult to give this place a rating of less than 5. The beaches here are paid, so they keep everything on the level. Nettuno

Sabaudia

To visit both the sea in Rome and enjoy the beauty of the lake coast, go to Sabaudia, another resort town in the vicinity of the capital. This place is located 100 kilometers away from the main city of Italy, and the easiest way to get there is by train. You will need to get to Priverno Fossanova station and take a bus from there.

In Sabaudia itself, the main attraction is the beaches. This village was built in less than a year, at a time when Mussolini implemented his project to build first-class sea resorts. Fiumicino
Upon arrival in Rome, you can go to the beach in the same place. Eternal Rome is a city that cannot leave you indifferent. Amazing with endlessly changing monuments of all eras and styles. The permanent capital of Italy and the heart of Catholicism. A place where every stone breathes history, the corner of every house screams about how old it is and how much it has seen.

In the traditional sense, Rome is far from beach resort. To be honest, the sea from the capital of Italy is at least half an hour away by metro. However, it is precisely these half an hour, which, in principle, can separate some outskirts of Barcelona from Mediterranean Sea, make many tourists think that there are beaches in Rome. And, in principle, they are not so far from the truth. Judge for yourself - a comfortable train goes for mere pennies (2-3 EUR) from the very center of Rome to the beautiful sandy coast of the nearest beach resort - Ostia.

If you draw the shortest line with an imaginary ruler from the center of the Italian capital to the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea, you will get not much more than 25 km. And then - both to the right and to the left - kilometers and kilometers of sand, which were divided among themselves great resorts. Most of of these offers free public beaches, which are monitored by municipalities, which means that entry is free. There are also separate fenced clubs, for which you will have to pay 10-15 EUR to enter. As a reward for such “pennies”, tourists will be given a sunbed, an umbrella, the opportunity to use a shower and toilet stall, a DJ and a nice bar where they can order ice-cold white wine on a hot afternoon.

So, if you wish, go from Rome and troubled waters Tiber to some more azure water, to swim, freshen up and even sunbathe, it is best to pay attention to the following three beaches: Ostia, Nettuno and Sabaudia. The first one is the closest. It's not the best here best coast on the Tyrrhenian Sea, but it is literally under the nose of Rome. The second two are considered both more picturesque and cleaner, but it will take at least an hour to get there. Fortunately, in both cases the route will be direct, without transfers, directly from Rome Termini station to Nettuno, or by bus from the Laurentina metro station to Sabaudia. And for a ticket you will have to pay no more than 5 EUR one way.

Staying on one of the beaches overnight is not a bad idea. And Rome, with its magnificent collection, will not suffer much from a one-day absence of a tourist, and the traveler himself will be able to take a little rest from the abundance of beauty. But during the season, it is better to think about such desires in advance and book a hotel a little in advance. Otherwise, there is a high probability of being left without a room, or paying a lot of money for a modest room with a bed - this is a popular direction, and good hotels selling out like hot cakes.

Moreover, if you are going to Rome in the summer, especially in July or August, then it makes sense to think about whether it is worth staying in the city for a long time. It’s hot in Rome in the summer, and it’s much more pleasant to spend the daytime by the sea than on the hot streets and squares of the Italian capital.

However, if you still decide to live in Rome, or if you are planning a trip for less hot months and just want to get out of Rome for a day to wander along the sea and breathe in the salty air, then there will be more than one suitable place.

This article is dedicated to seaside resorts in the immediate vicinity of Rome. Next, we will consider the most interesting areas in our opinion. In this case, we will focus primarily on the possibilities public transport(primarily railway – see www.trenitalia.com).

So, by sea from Rome: where to go, how to get there, where to stay, etc. and so on.

The beaches closest to Rome are in the town Lido di Ostia(Lido di Ostia). In fact, this is a suburb of Rome, and the railway line connecting the Lido with the capital is essentially a continuation of the Roman metro. You can get here by train Roma Lido from railway station Porta San Paolo, connected to the Piramide metro station (see diagram). The drive is only half an hour. In addition, we note that Lido di Ostia is located near Fiumicino airport, from where you can get to the Lido by Cotral bus. This is about the question of summer trips to Rome. It is quite possible to stay in Lido - closer to the sea and beaches - and from there travel to Rome. True, there are not so many accommodation options, and therefore the issue of booking should be taken care of in advance, while there is plenty to choose from. Pay attention, for example, to Hotel La Scaletta and Hotel Ping Pong, located in the center of resort life, or to the small but very nice guest house Il Mare Di Roma, a little away from the center.

Despite all of the above, people usually come to Lido for a day from Rome to swim, sunbathe and return back. The beaches here are sandy and maintained in decent condition throughout the entire swimming season. Prevail paid areas, but there are also free ones. The sea near the shore is shallow, which attracts families with small children, but there is also entertainment for young people. Night life Lido di Ostia has its place - there are beach bars and discos (see www.discotecheostia.it), although of course this is not Ibiza.

If you need a place for a relaxing beach holiday and do not plan to travel to Rome every day, then take your time to choose Lido. It makes sense to look further south and take a closer look at places like Anzio(Anzio) And Nettuno(Nettuno), accessible by Trenitalia trains (about an hour from Rome). This is practically one whole - you can walk from one town to another, and both make a rather pleasant impression, and have their own attractions. In other words, you will always have the opportunity to diversify your lazy beach holiday with walks around the area. And the sea here is cleaner than in Lido di Ostia, although it is just as shallow, which is good for children, but is unlikely to appeal to those who like to swim in the depths.

Mostly locals vacation in Anzio and Nettuno. Therefore, there are relatively few hotels here. Alternatively, you can consider the Hotel Riviera (Anzio) or the Astura Palace Hotel (Nettuno). There are also small guest houses and apartments: see, for example, Casa Vacanze Anzio Centro in Anzio and Appartamento Romana in Nettuno.

However, the most interesting resorts, in our opinion, are located even further south. This - San Felice Circeo, Terracina, Sperlonga and Gaeta.

The downside is that it is more difficult to get here by rail. Although if your budget allows, you can always order a direct transfer from the airport (see, for example,) or rent a car (see). After all, there are buses. Thus, from Rome's Laurentina bus station you can travel directly to Terracina and San Felice Circeo (here and below, see the Cotral route planner). The journey takes a little over two hours. In Terracina you can change buses to Sperlonga and Gaeta. Another way to get to Terracina is to first take the train to Monte San Biagio and then take the bus to Terracina. In short, it is much more convenient to go in this direction by car, especially since there are a lot of interesting things in the surrounding area and to see it all, you will again need a car.

The busiest place among those listed is Terracina(Terracina). The beaches here are sandy, long and mostly paid, but there are also free sections. The entrance to the water is gentle, but the depth is not far. The historical city center is very interesting. There are places to take a walk - both in Terracina and in the immediate surroundings (you can, for example, climb the mountain to the Temple of Jupiter). Wonderful embankment. Lots of children's playgrounds. Beach discos. Etc. and so on. In short, Terracina allows you to organize a vacation to suit every taste. And your wallet, since the accommodation options here are different: from the expensive Grand Hotel L'Approdo to quite budget guest houses like Il Giardino Di Adriana B&B and numerous apartments.

San Felice Circeo(San Felice Circeo) a much calmer and secluded place, but the beaches here are at least as good as in Terracina. And the nature around is amazing, since this is actually the territory of the national natural park(see parcocirceo.it), as, by the way, and Sabaudia(Sabaudia), located on the other side of Cape Circeo (also perfect place for a quiet beach holiday). In San Felice Circeo it is worth paying attention, for example, to Hotel Capo Circeo, and in Sabaudia - to Hotel Oasi Di Kufra.

Good in terms of beaches and Sperlonga(Sperlonga), and the atmosphere here, so to speak, is more intimate. The historical center of the city has climbed up a cliff, its streets are intricately intertwined, and snow-white houses are piled on top of each other. There are beaches on both sides of the cliff: fine golden sand, clear sea and picturesque views of the Old city- beauty! Moreover, Sperlonga has hotels located right on the seafront, which further enhances the experience: see, for example, Albergo La Sirenella and Hotel Aurora. True, the cost of living in such hotels is quite high. Cheaper hotels like Elaia Garden Hotel, located a little further from the beaches (5-10 minutes walk). Families with children and road travelers should also pay attention to the Residence Le Spiagge apartment complex.

Finally, Gaeta(Gaeta). This is perhaps the most cheap resort, when compared with Sperlonga, Terracina and San Felice Circeo. Meanwhile, the beaches here are just as good, there are also places to walk and things to see ( historical Center city, beautiful natural Park Monte Orlando on the mountain of the same name, the Turkish Grotto, etc.) and hotels, of course, are also available: see, in particular, the hotels Hotel Mirasole International and Hotel Viola, as well as the cozy guest house B&B il Giglio Marino. It is more convenient to get here not through Terracina, but through Formia, which has a direct train connection with Rome. From Rome you can drive to Formia in just over an hour. From Formia to Gaeta it is about 15 minutes by bus. So, if you wish, you can go to Gaetou in one day.

Formia(Formia), by the way, is also suitable for a beach holiday, as is the nearby town Skauri(Scauri), where there is also a railway station and prices are moderate.

Ladispoli, Santa Marinella and Lido di Tarquinha are all within an hour and a half's drive north of Rome.

Yes, up to Ladispoli(Ladispoli) From Rome's main station, Roma Termini, you can get there in just 40–50 minutes, and if you go from Roma San Pietro station (next to the Vatican), the journey will take less than half an hour. The beach here is sandy (dark volcanic sand) and quite lengthy, there are both paid and free sections (of course, there are more paid sections). In a word, Ladispoli is a good option for a one-day outing, and given the proximity to Rome, you can stay here for several days in order to be able to visit the Eternal City from time to time (there is practically nothing to see in Ladispoli itself, and in general the place is not very picturesque) . There are not many hotels here, but there are still some options: see, for example, Alle Tamerici Hotel, Hotel Villa Margherita and Hotel Miramare.

Santa Marinella(Santa Marinella) is located a little further - about an hour's drive from Rome - and overall makes a more pleasant impression than Ladispoli. This is a small and quiet resort, more suitable for a relaxing family vacation(including with children). The central (sandy) beach of this town is usually packed to capacity in the summer months, especially in the free part. However, nearby (next to the Odescalchi castle and the Hotel L"Isola) you can find a small “wild” beach - rocky, with crystal clean water. Another (pebble and rocky) beach is located some distance from the city center and its railway station, but it is much more spacious. From the station it’s about 15 minutes on foot, the landmark is Hotel del Sole. This option is also possible: some hotels (for example, Hotel Villa delle Palme) have their own “beaches” in the form of a platform jutting into the sea with sun loungers and beach umbrellas (to swim in the sea, you need to go down into the water using a special staircase).

By the way, if you get off the train one stop earlier - at the Santa Severa station (be careful: not all trains stop here), you can walk (10-15 minutes on foot) to the castle located on the seashore (Castello di Santa Severa). This castle is remarkable both in itself and because it is adjacent to a fairly wide sandy beach - much less crowded than the beach in Santa Marinella. In other words, Santa Severa(Santa Severa) An equally, and perhaps even more interesting option if you need a beach that you can visit for a day from Rome.

Lido di Tarquinia(Lido di Tarquinia)- another beach resort north of Rome, which is worth mentioning separately. This place is quite popular, but at the same time, not trampled by tourists. The beach here is sandy (dark sand), there are paid and free sections. There are many different restaurants nearby. And all around is peace and quiet, pine trees and fields. True, it is more convenient to go here by car, especially since Tarquinia proper is located a few kilometers from here - an ancient and very interesting city.
