Very nice and cozy hotel.
My husband and I vacationed in Phuket, at the Novotel hotel in the corner of Karon at the end of November 2015.
I want to share my impressions about the hotel, beach, entertainment and cafes we visited. I will write in detail, because for those who are in Phuket for the first time, the information will be useful. So, first things first:

The hotel is very nice! The area is not large (you can't walk around), but very neat and well-groomed. We had a Deluxe room (No. 1207) overlooking the street in the next building from the main one. I don’t recommend taking it, because you can hear parties on the beach and passing traffic, since the hotel is located right on the main road.
Our room had a hairdryer (not hanging), but it is not very powerful, shower gel, shampoo, soap, cotton pads and swabs, disposable slippers, bottled water (we were given 2 x 0.5 every day), tea, coffee and a kettle , refrigerator (empty), free safe, good air conditioning. The room is very clean, fresh and stylish. The room was cleaned every day and it was good! Bed linen was changed every 2 days.
There are 3 outdoor swimming pools on the territory: 1 main one, it has 2 bars (one on the water), quite large with a decent number of sun loungers, towels for the beach were taken near it. 2-small and not very deep - 1.5 m (photo 1), but there were almost no people near it, there is also a bar with a billiard table. 3 children, with one slide
Approximate prices at the bar: cocktail - 260 baht, beer - 180 baht
Breakfast is delicious, but monotonous. From fruits: watermelons, pineapples, melons and sometimes tangerines. Coffee and tea are served by waiters and can be difficult to catch.
All the staff are very friendly, but no one speaks Russian, and it’s difficult to speak English.
There is a stinking river flowing next to the hotel, you have to cross it every time you go to the beach - it’s not very pleasant, but it seems that they have already begun to drain it, so let’s hope that the smell will disappear soon.
The beach is a 2-minute walk from the hotel; it is not equipped with sunbeds or umbrellas, but thanks to this, few people relax on it (photo 2). Moreover, the hotel allows you to take towels to the beach. You can walk along the embankment for about 10 minutes to the beach equipped with umbrellas and sun loungers, but they are far from in their original condition.

Cafes and markets

We always tried to eat in different places, so I’ll tell you about each separately.
If you live in Karon, then all the main cafes are located on the street that leads from the roundabout to the Temple, but the closest cafe to our hotel is “mama seefud” (photo 3). The place is quite decent with a pleasant view of the lake (photo 4), the service is also good, but the prices are above average. For dinner we paid 1,500 baht (almost 3,000 rubles for ours).
The next place on the way to the circle is an establishment without a name) the prices are average, the food is delicious (photo 5).
According to many reviews, the Red Onion cafe (photo 6) was recommended; it is located on the street on the way to the Temple. The cafe itself is not a pleasant look, it’s kind of dirty, the waiters are not friendly, but it’s not expensive and it’s tasty. In the evening there are queues at this cafe, to be honest, we don’t understand why.
Following the Red Onion on the same side is the Veranda cafe (photo 7, 8), it has Russian and Thai cuisine. We haven’t tried the Russian one, the Thai one is decent, the dishes are beautifully presented, the prices are average. Very pleasant atmosphere, there is a restroom, there are TVs on the walls that show Masha and the Bear))
Opposite the Veranda is the Elephant cafe (photo 9, 10), with pink walls and elephants, there are almost no people there and later we understood why))) the prices here are the lowest, the food is quite normal, and so is the service. There is a second floor, it is more pleasant to sit on it. We ate in it 2 times, the second time my husband was poisoned by seafood soup ((((
Nearby there is a cafe On Lee, it is easy to find by the bright pink color of the sign, all the waiters are in nice pink polo shirts, the chairs are very elegant))) (photo 11) the prices are reasonable, we tried the oysters there, but they were not fresh. Delicious shrimp in batter, squid in batter is not worth trying here. I didn't like the salmon salad either.
We didn’t like it at the Seefud Karon cafe (photo 12), we ordered rice with crab, the crab was mixed into the rice, but not thoroughly cleaned. The prices are higher than average, the atmosphere is not very good.
We recommend trying the ice cream, which is frozen before your eyes, it is delicious, and there is a lot of it, one serving is enough for two.
There are also mobile stations for preparing pancakes with bananas everywhere - delicious! I just recommend finding a location near which there is no unpleasant smell of burnt oil.
We tried milkshake and ice cream at Namy (photo 13,14). It sells homemade ice cream. The cocktail is tasty, but nothing special, but the ice cream is really tasty!
On Tuesdays and Saturdays, there is a market near the temple from 17:00 to 22:00 (photo 15, 16), where you can buy things and souvenirs. Prices are generally the same as in shops, but you can negotiate more. They also prepare and sell various foods here, including seafood in batter, rice in pineapple, seafood kebabs, cockroaches, etc., . I recommend trying the guy’s sweet pancakes (photo 17) and juice from an unknown red fruit)
We bought local fruit wine in a shop (photo 19). It’s worth a try, because it’s not like our wines, but I wouldn’t say that it’s very tasty. I recommend mango flavor

Excursions

We took 3 excursions:
1. Extended overview
2. Phi Phi Islands
3. Safari

We went with Tez Tour, they offer 2 free sightseeing tours: The first includes a visit to a latex factory, a batanical garden, a cashew store with free tasting, and a jewelry store with a short interactive story about stone mining. It can be expanded by paying an additional 550 baht per person, then you will also visit the Buddha Temple on the top of the mountain, which offers views of the eastern and western parts of the coast, but since the construction work on the construction of the Temple has not yet been completed, the view of the coast is partially blocked by construction forests. And have lunch in a cafe (buffet) among large quantity Chinese))) also by paying extra, you will travel in a minivan with a small number of people.
We didn’t go to the second one, because it’s not completely free, you definitely have to pay 650 baht per person for the trip and entry tickets(I think so). I don't remember exactly what is included in it.
2. We went to the Phi Phi Islands in not the best weather (there was strong wind and rain(((but this did not greatly darken our excursion.
It takes about an hour to get to the port from our hotel, then another hour on a decent yacht (capacity 30 people). Free water and fruit are provided on board. The first stop is the Viking cave, although you can’t call it a stop, the yacht will simply slow down for a while so that you can take a photo in the background. Second stop is the lagoon. You can dive in absolutely clear water among beautiful rocks. 3rd stop - the beach where they filmed the movie "The Beach", it has very nice shallow and White sand, but you won’t be able to enjoy it, because there will be very, very, very (photo 18) a lot of people on this beach! Most likely, you won’t be able to go shopping either, because boats are dropping people off everywhere. 4th stop - Monkey Island, you can watch from the boat as the captain of the ship feeds the monkeys with bananas. 5th stop - lunch. 6th - snorkeling, there is no living thing there coral reef, but a variety of fish and sea urchins You will definitely see, I liked this part of the excursion the most. Last stop - no inhabited island, where you can simply relax, sunbathe on free sun loungers and swim, but on this island the water is very muddy, it’s not pleasant to swim. For this excursion we paid 6,160 baht (~ 12,000 rubles) for two. I don't think she's worth that kind of money
3. Safari, in my opinion, is the most intense, beautiful and interesting excursion, though it takes 2 hours to get there, because this place is on the continent. First you will be brought to stopping point, where you can change clothes and leave things in the safe. Our first part of the excursion was river rafting. It’s very beautiful and funny, especially if you haven’t rafted before. I recommend taking a go pro or something similar with you, because you will be asked to put all your gadgets in the safe and for good reason, they will definitely get wet! I don’t recommend wearing makeup either)) The next part was a visit to the waterfall with the opportunity to swim in the cool, fresh water. There is very beautiful views! Then we went elephant riding!!! This is a very interesting and unusual sensation!!! I recommend everyone to try it at least once in their life! And finally, we were fed a real Thai lunch, consisting of 5 dishes, and were told how they eat and what they eat. Very filling and tasty!

Entertainment

There is not much entertainment on Karon, although we didn’t look for it)
It so happened that during our vacation the Thais celebrated the Loy Krathong holiday. It is celebrated on the 12th full moon, so it is always on different days. This is a beautiful holiday, during which Thais release compositions of flowers and more into the water. So, a few days before the holiday, a stage and market were erected on the beach near our hotel. Every evening for 5 days, from 19:00 to 24:00, Thai musicians performed on stage, and things and food were sold at the market. Another disadvantage of our room was that the concert could be heard very well even with the balcony closed.

We also went to Patong to see Patong Beach (it’s like the Red Light District) and to the Jangtselon shopping center. There are many stores in the shopping center, the prices, due to the exchange rate, are the same or even slightly higher than ours. On the 2nd and 3rd floors there are stalls where you can buy souvenirs inexpensively; in one of these, all goods cost 100 baht. I bought a stole there of quite normal quality and a photo album.
The action at Patong Beach begins after sunset, but we realized that it was better to get there later. We were there around 19:00 and apart from a busy street with a huge number of bars, we didn’t see much.
The road to Patong takes 10-15 minutes, but local tuk-tuks charge at least 300 baht (per car) one way, so it’s better to cooperate and go to Patong with a group.

Flying for almost 12 hours is, I tell you, pure punishment, so upon arrival at the Icelandia Paradise hotel in January 2001, we immediately ran to the beach. After five minutes of being in the water, we felt a slight itch. What was our surprise and moral relief , when a picture of the same scratching people opened up to our eyes. But we have not yet been able to establish the reason, convincing ourselves that this is a process of acclimatization. Only three days later we discovered microscopic colorless balls in the water that resembled small lenses through which the sun shone through and on the sand Their reflections were visible, maybe they were jellyfish? And this phenomenon appeared exclusively after 15.00. The first impression cooled the subconscious imagination a little. It seemed that this should be a real paradise and an oasis of a tropical forest, of flowers and birds. There was nothing like that, and outside the hotel there was the hopeless poverty of the most hardworking and amazing people light of the Thai people. On the way from the airport to the hotel, the guide told us about their way of life - they don’t like it when their heads are touched, they are very devout and every morning they bring fruits and water to their God. They smile all the time, because according to their religion , if they are in a bad mood, then their life will be bad. Our guide also warned that the sun is very active here and just 1 hour under it is equal to 7 hours in our region. Even this shortcut from the sea to the sun loungers, it threatens to burn, so even in the water we swam in Panama hats, otherwise you could get sunstroke! At lunchtime we went to the hotel in order to sit out the very peak of the solstice, because even under an umbrella we did not have time to apply Sun spray- 35, you could light a cigarette from the skin. There is no special entertainment there, only a small settlement with shops selling counterfeits of well-known manufacturing companies. Among the local traders there are also Indians, 10% of whom are arrogant and ill-mannered bastards, pulling your hands in theirs shops, and if you don’t buy anything, they will bark after you. In principle, you can visit other guests.......
