Hon Mieu Island

On this island is the Tri Nguen Aquarium, which is shaped like a sailboat. You can visit it for $4. This aquarium has a rather spectacular appearance and looks like the Flying Dutchman ship. It is also somewhat similar to the “madhouse” in Dalat, but its internal contents are not very impressive, especially against the backdrop of the aquarium on.

Children may be interested in the opportunity to feed the predatory fish here themselves. The fish in the pool are up to 2 m in size. To treat them, meat is tied to a fishing rod, which is then lowered into the water. When the fish takes the treat, a sharp pop is heard.

Minuses

The disadvantages of the island include high price one day visit, sometimes inadequate staff, and not always clean beaches. Sometimes garbage floats into the bay, which tourists visiting the southern islands of Vietnam throw into the water from the shore of Nha Trang and from boats.

Another “fly in the ointment” is that the island’s administration is actively promoting it among the Chinese, who come to Vietnam in an endless stream at any time of the year. Excursion route: Mun Island - Mot Island - Sun Beach - Tri Nguyen Aquarium.

Southern Nha Trang Islands - on your own

We can safely count ourselves among the amateurs independent travel. We visited most of the sights in Vietnam and other countries without outside help. Ours will surely be useful to you.

We also planned to visit the southern islands on our own. But conflicting information on the Internet prompted us to change the usual format. And we didn’t regret it.

Travel agency SinhTourist

It turned out that the most rational way to visit the southern islands is to take an excursion. Preferably from a local company, as we did at SinhTourist for 169,000 VND (~7-8$). This is not just a travel agency, but also a company for transporting passengers by bus in several countries.

Companies with Russian-speaking guides charge at least 30%; if you speak at least a little English, an English-speaking guide will be enough for you.

The morning transfer from the company's office took us to the departure pier for boats to the southern islands. It is located not far from the cable car to Vinpearl, where the boat was waiting for us. Everyone was given life jackets, drinking water and quickly released the mooring lines.

It’s not difficult to get to the southern islands of Nha Trang on your own. Near the cable car station to the entertainment island there are several piers and ticket offices for such trips.

Moon Island

At 9:30 am the boat arrived at the first island, Mun Island. The entry fee was unexpected - 22,000 dong (~$1). The tourist has comfortable sun loungers and free time. The weather was sunny, the sea was calm, but I didn’t want to swim. IN clear water there was a lot of garbage floating around. Most tourists did not pay attention to such a trifle and frolicked in the water with their children.

For us, lovers clean beaches, there was nothing left to do but take the sun loungers and admire the beauty of nature. And the landscapes around are really good and worth coming here for. There is silence around and no city bustle.

Closer to lunch, everyone was called to the cafe for lunch. The dishes are completely Vietnamese: rice, seaweed soup, grilled chicken, tofu, fried eggs and spices. It's all for everyone, but it's enough for a snack.

Tofu is soy cheese. A popular Asian dish, the cheapest source of protein, it is also called “boneless meat.”

Holiday overboard

The next stop is near the island of Mot. The boat is tied to one of the floating platforms, the carrier is connected to the electrical network, a stage is made from the benches on which tourists sit, and a small musical show begins. Our escorts sing Vietnamese catchy songs, play the guitar and dance merrily.

One pot-bellied guy took off his T-shirt, put a plate to his belly and danced, tapping it like a drum. And in order to somehow stir up the audience, they organize karaoke. For Russians they play “Katyusha” or “A Million Scarlet Roses”, for Australians - a national song about a kangaroo.

And when the audience is already warmed up, they turn up the music louder, throw a minibar with alcoholic drinks into the water, and everyone jumps into the water. The bravest ones dive from the second deck of the boat. Short video from the holiday on the high seas on YouTube.

The fun lasts about an hour. Drinks are drunk, the pleasure of swimming is received, we go to Sun Beach. It is not entirely clear what island this beach is on. On the way, they recruit a group for diving lessons for $25, and the rest are dropped off on shore. Entrance to the island is 50,000 dong (~$2).

Sun Beach

In this place the water is really clean and the bright sun only fuels the desire to swim. In addition to a beach holiday, you can buy a mask for 20,000 VND and go snorkeling. And for those who want to relax, there is a place where to lie on a sun lounger and breathe sea air and forget about all the problems.

Hon Mieu Island

And finally - a visit to the island of Hon Mieu. It is the closest to Nha Trang. On it, the Vietnamese implemented a very original idea - they created the Tri Nguen Aquarium in the shape of a sailboat. The cost of visiting is 90,000 dong (~$4).

Externally, the aquarium looks very impressive, reminiscent of the legendary ghost ship "The Flying Dutchman", and there is something in common with Dalat, but the internal content, in comparison with the aquarium on VinPearl Island, was not very impressive. But it’s still interesting to visit here and look at the marine life.

Feeding predatory fish will be an interesting activity for children. Fish up to 2 meters in size swim in the pool; the meat is tied to a fishing rod and then lowered into the water. The fish snatches the treat abruptly and with a loud bang. The children squeal with joy and continue to “fish”, while the adults take pictures of them.

On this cheerful note, our journey through southern islands has come to an end. See you again in the vastness of Vietnam!
