Camping New Athos - Abkhazia - “Tent holiday in Abkhazia”. Camping New Athos - Abkhazia - “Tent holiday in Abkhazia” Gagra where to spend the night with a tent camping

I will share with you a holiday in Abkhazia, and specifically, budget-excellent accommodation in Abkhazia - tent holiday!

My husband and I prefer to go bask in the sun and live in tents. We are returning to Abkhazia for the third year! It’s not for nothing that they say that if you like it the first time, then you won’t be able to live without it, and if you don’t, you won’t want to go there again. We fell in love with her! Mountains, gentle sea, extraordinary color, most interesting story countries!

Let's start from the very beginning - from the road) We usually leave Kaluga by car in the morning, around four o’clock. My husband is driving alone and he can drive for a long time without sleeping, so in about 26 hours we reach the border with Abkhazia. And then how lucky you will be with the road: traffic jams, repairs, serpentine roads - you can’t guess.

Border– we’ve been driving for three years, and every time there’s something new in passing it)) The fact that passengers pass separately from the drivers of the car is always certain. Require: from passengers - a passport, from the driver - documents for the car, passport, driver's license. I can’t say about children, we don’t have them yet, but I saw that they look at the birth certificate and talk to the child: What is the mother’s name, how old is the baby, and similar questions to establish the child’s identity. Each year the time passed was different, the first year took about 20 minutes (we got to the border just after midnight); the second year - 30 minutes (we were at the border at five in the morning), the third year - 40 minutes (we arrived only at six o’clock), every year there are more and more people) It’s bad in the morning, because bus excursions Just at this time they are approaching the border. In 2015 there were three times more people than in 2013. Abkhazia is becoming more popular))).

After the border– in 2013, since we arrived at the border late at night, we didn’t dare go out onto the highway (we had read a lot of reviews, and we were tired), having passed the border point, we stopped in the parking lot and slept until dawn. Abkhazians are very hospitable, so when we got out of the car in the morning, they immediately offered us accommodation, we said that we had already agreed and were going to New Athos. The main thing with them, as with all people, is to be polite and not to be rude. Yes, in principle, why is this necessary on vacation)) For the next two years, we immediately moved along the road towards New Athos.

Nature, roads, cows, cities– as soon as you enter the road, it’s as if you find yourself in another world! A country of greenery, palm trees, mountains! The difference between Sochi and Abkhazia is very noticeable. Trees, bushes, palms, air, sea! The road along the main routes is paved, follow the signs and everything will be fine))) In 2015, Russians began to be stopped a lot, this had never happened before. The driving style of the Abkhazians is very interesting - they drive as they want, overtake in solid lanes, honk, don’t keep the speed limit - you shouldn’t look up to them! You can be stopped and fined for this, and the fines there are also decent. On the roads you can meet cows and horses))) these are practically holy animals - the breadwinners of every family. We also met pigs on the road))) The signs on the road are very inconvenient; the end of the “speed limit” sign is not clear. Therefore, in the city it is better to drive no higher than 50 km/h, and look more carefully at the signs! The police catch violations, they hide behind the trees, maybe not in an official car, even with antediluvian radars))) On the road to New Athos we pass Gagra, Gudauta and other small villages. On the right is the blue sea, on the left are the mountains, I love Abkhazia for this! New Athos is about an hour and a half to two hours drive at an average speed of 60-70 km/h.

Accommodation- so I got to the house). For three years in a row we have been going to New Athos campsite near the Kamarit hotel. In 2015, there were already so many people there that cars were parked outside the campsite. But the entire territory is guarded (although how can I say it is guarded - entry and exit are closed at night and the guards really sit still, but anyone can get to you along the shore)), but this has never happened before). We really liked the camping the first time: firstly, it is located on the seashore, i.e. you fall asleep and wake up to the sound of the sea; secondly, the campsite has two shower rooms with hot water fresh water(although when there are a lot of people, it unfortunately runs out and remains barely warm or cold), two bathrooms, refrigerators for storing food, 220V sockets, a washbasin with a mirror. Minus - in 2015 there was a queue for the toilet in the morning, and in the evening for the shower there was such a queue that it lasted for about 20 minutes. But when you are on the shore of the wonderful Black Sea and you have nowhere to rush, you can stand, as long as it doesn’t rain or you don’t really want to to the toilet)) I also want to tell you a little about rain and bad weather: in 2013 and 2014 we were driven out of Abkhazia by rain, downpour and cold ((the tent got wet, all our things were also impossible to dry, since there was no sun. In 2015 we We were lucky - it rained for a while and then the sun immediately warmed us)) and we changed the tent and the new one withstood stormy winds better)

By cost– in 2015, the cost of a tent was 600 rubles per seat + car, although my husband’s parents went with our tent (we have 11 sq.m.) two weeks later and they were charged 500 rubles, so it’s difficult to determine the exact cost, it depends on the mood of the security guard) )) on the website in this moment They say 500 rubles for a 5x4 space, no matter how much we tried to say that our tent was smaller in size - it was useless.

Life, food- I took it with me full car things from a first aid kit to a shower (just in case, suddenly there is no room in Camarita). I assemble the entire first aid kit at home; medicines are very expensive in Abkhazia. We take chairs, a table, an inflatable mattress-bed to sleep on, pillows, a blanket, bed linen, a car refrigerator (we took it for the first year - it was convenient to cool the water), oh well, and all the little things) You wake up there early - at seven After about an hour the sun creeps out from behind the mountains and begins to actively heat up the tent and it becomes impossible to sleep there - so we run out and into the sea *thrill* this year we lived like that - 20 meters from the water)), then we had breakfast, swam, walked, in the evening it gets dark early, at eight o’clock it’s already so dark that you will want to sleep, so at about half past nine we were already climbing into the tent and sleeping. Our neighbors who were campers took something with them, I saw an inflatable sofa, a slow cooker, an electric kettle, refrigerators (not cars, but small regular ones), plastic shelves, a TV)

The shops there are quite empty. There are their local products: cheese, dried meat, baked goods. The rest is all imported from Russia or Turkey - and everything is more expensive than ours. Therefore, canned food, pasta, sunflower oil, sugar, tea, coffee - I took everything with me. This year we stayed for 18 days, so sometimes we went to the canteens. Canteens are more budget-friendly, but the food is just as tasty) for 110 rubles you can get a side dish + cutlet. We didn’t particularly visit the cafe, although the prices there are much lower than in ours. Black Sea resorts. In the evenings we fried fish, meat, sausages, and potatoes on the grill. They have a problem with shashlik there)) the meat is sold frozen from Brazil in briquettes and in large weight for 220-250 rubles per kg, or fresh, but at high price– 450 rubles kg. We took it whenever we wanted - fresh food, ice cream, and chicken) There is a supermarket in Sukhum, there are more goods there and more familiar goods to our eyes.

There is not much entertainment in the tents, so cooking and the sea are the main entertainments. In 2015, cafes with Wi-fi began to appear in Abkhazia, but we used a local SIM card and connected it to the Internet (not a very convenient connection, you have to dial a combination of numbers every day and be sure to cancel it at the end of the day, otherwise the payment will change). We communicated with parents and friends and shared our impressions while sitting on the seashore via WhatsApp, Viber and Instagram))

Trips– you can drive here and walk in many places - Ritsa, New Athos Monastery, Gegsky Waterfall, Anakopia Fortress, Shakuransky Waterfall, Milk Waterfall, Malaya Ritsa, Pitsunda, Sukhumi, thermal source, and many many others. Later in other posts I will describe some routes and share my impressions.

Bottom line– with gasoline, with accommodation, with excursions this year we spent about 50 thousand for two in 18 days + three and a half days on the road. We left on July 25 and returned on August 14. And I want to come back again! Abkhazia is a country of Soul! My soul remains there!

Camping in Abkhazia – points of concentration

It is clear that not the entire territory of Abkhazia is of interest to tourists, therefore, first of all, campsites should be looked for near settlements. They are located on the Black Sea coast, near important tourist sports or historical and cultural sites, as well as in beautiful natural places countries.

If you analyze the parking and recreation areas of campers, you will notice that they are concentrated near the following resorts in Abkhazia: ; ; ; . The best Abkhaz campsites

It is difficult to determine the winner in such a case; each tourist has his own selection criteria and his own ideas about best place recreation. Therefore, we will note only a few campsites in Abkhazia that deserve positive reviews not from one traveler.

On the road between and there is a campsite with a very pleasant name - “Eucalyptus Grove”. Any guest who finds himself here will understand why the tourist recreation center has such a name. Most The territory is occupied by a forest (or garden) of eucalyptus trees; thanks to the trees, the air in this corner of Abkhazia has healing properties. But not only exotic plants attract tourists to this campsite; the main attractive factor is the very clean sea and coastline. That is why not only foreign guests relax here; they come with pleasure to swim and sunbathe local residents.

Between New Athos and Gudauta you can find another good campsite - Achandar. Its territory is guarded. Therefore, guests do not have to worry about the safety of cars or tents. There are amenities on site such as toilets, showers, and a cafe. This campsite is very young, it has only been open for two years, but it has already earned a lot good reviews, recommended for relaxation not just by tourists, but by the Russian Caravanners Club.

The Achamdar campsite is located on a flat area planted with poplar trees, and there are options for setting up tents or parking cars. 30 meters from the parking lot there is a beautiful pebble beach. Therefore, most tourists come here to enjoy sea, water and air treatments, as well as admire the stunning local landscapes.
