Cesky Krumlov – popular tourist centre in the Czech Republic. The vast majority of travelers arrive here from Czech capital- Prague. Let's figure out the easiest way to do this.

Method number 1: on your own by bus

Cesky Krumlov has two bus stations: Spicak and AN (final). They are located a couple of minutes away from each other, the bus stops both there and there. Which one to go to doesn’t matter, the distance to historical center approximately the same. But we still recommend getting off at the terminus (AN), because from there it is more convenient to move to the city center - along the way there will be all the most interesting places.

It is better to buy bus tickets in advance, as they may not be available on site (the route is very popular). This can be done on the Internet, on the company’s official website.

Excursions

The best way to get to know a new city is through guided tours from local residents. To do this, many travelers use services such as Sputnik8.

Last Wednesday we spent one day in a town in the south of the Czech Republic - Cesky Krumlov. In this article we will tell you how we organized free time in Krumlov, what they did and how much they spent on the trip.

Before this trip, we had been to Krumlov several times - both independently and as part of organized excursion. I don’t know why, but our trips to Krumlov always fall during the gloomy autumn-winter period: we have never been there either in summer or spring. Therefore, this time we waited for a cloudless day and went to take pictures of sunny Krumlov.

It was decided to go to Krumlov in the morning by bus from. We bought tickets in advance for the green bus. The bus stopped at the Andel metro station in Prague, as well as in the cities of Pisek and Ceske Budejovice. In total, the road from Prague to Krumlov took about 3 hours 20 minutes. The bus was 70 percent occupied: it was a weekday.

Thus, having left Prague at 8 am, we arrived in Krumlov at 11:25. This time turned out to be ideal for starting a walk: it had already become warmer, and the nighttime -4 turned into a comfortable +2 for walking. There was very good light for photography, which we took advantage of by starting to photograph the city from above at the first observation deck near the bus station in Krumlov. The historical center of the city is very compact, and it is best to admire it from above. And the most colorful photos with houses with tiled roofs are taken from observation platforms.

At some large observation platforms there are stands with detailed map cities. On the way from the bus station to the city center we came across two observation decks with stunning views that you won't see on group tours.

It was decided to begin the study of Krumlov with an inspection of the Krumlov Castle, which, by the way, is the second largest castle in the Czech Republic after. The castle walls in this photo remind me of German walls carved into the rock.

We have been to Krumlov so many times, but we have not visited either the castle or observation deck on the tower. On this trip we decided to make up for lost time. Having purchased single ticket We went to see the castle museum and climb the tower for 300 crowns.

Unlike many other Czech castles, the Krumlov Castle Museum can be explored without a guide. That is, you go through all the rooms on your own. And for your convenience, each of them provides explanatory texts in several languages, including Russian. The museum exhibited interior items, dishes, weapons, tiled stoves, portraits of representatives of the dynasties of the castle owners - the Schwarzenbergs, Rosenbergs and Eggenbergs. There are also stoves in the chambers of the Krumlov Castle, so it’s very warm.

At Krumlov Castle rich story, dating back to 1240. Since 1950, the castle has been the property of the state. In 1992, the castle and historical center of Cesky Krumlov was included in the UNESCO List of sites. Before entering, you can familiarize yourself with its layout on a large, convenient map.

It took us about 45 minutes to explore the castle museum, after which we climbed the tower. Without exaggeration, the tower of Krumlov Castle can be called the hallmark of this town, along with the bear that lives near the castle. The tower appears on postcards and local souvenirs. To climb it, we had to climb 162 steps. In some areas the stairs became too narrow and steep. Therefore, I would like to immediately warn you that only people in good athletic shape can climb this tower.

The reward for your efforts will be fabulous views of the castle complex, the center of Krumlov and the nearby mountain ranges.

From above, you can appreciate the power of the fast Vltava River, examine dollhouses in all detail, and even see main square cities with a plague pillar.

In the center of the next photo is the Church of St. Vitus, which is one of the main city attractions along with Krumlov Castle.

The alternative is also visible from the tower urban development- panel houses stretching into the horizon.

It was a weekday, and not many people gathered on the tower, so we managed to take a lot of good shots. We spent another half hour visiting the tower, that is, together with visiting the castle museum - about 1.5 hours. After descending from the tower, it was decided to go to the castle park, the path to which passes through the bridge, from which the most impressive photos of Cesky Krumlov are taken. It is on this bridge (Czech: Plášťový most) that both professional photographers and ordinary selfie lovers gather. In clear sunny weather, the views from here are indescribable.

But how unusual this bridge looks when you look at it from the city embankment.

Unfortunately, when we got to the park, we learned that it is closed for the winter and is open from April to October. I think it would be very interesting to visit there in the summer. After being sad about this for a while, we returned to the castle and walked to the Pod Radnicí restaurant. This place serves incredibly tasty trout with shaved almonds, smoked beer and beer from the local brewery Krumlov (formerly Eggenberg) and Budweiser from Budejovice, as well as traditional, good Czech dishes - grilled hermelin, pork knee. We took trout and cold cuts. The average bill for lunch for two with beer is 500 CZK. Be sure to save the address of this establishment: Radniční 26.

It's 15:00, and we only have a couple of hours left to explore the historical center of Krumlov. We leave the restaurant and literally from the threshold we catch an incredible shot - a castle tower drenched in the sun against the blue sky.

During our walk, we noticed many shops selling jewelry made from garnet and Czech green stone - vltavin. It should be noted that the majority of visitors to Krumlov shops are Chinese, so Chinese sellers are not uncommon here. By the way, the Chinese loved this town so much that Huawei began building a copy of Cesky Krumlov in China.

As we understand, the Chinese are the main buyers in local stores. For them, in Krumlov they opened stores not only for jewelry, but also for expensive Longchamp, Coach and Furla bags.

Chinese tourists leave mountains of money in the city and leave with oversized suitcases. Appreciate how loaded these two are with things.

Each house is a work of art. The beautiful wrought iron signs on the houses reminded me of a German town.

And this house, with its color, reminded me of the hotel where we spent the night in Rothenburg. Compare: in the first photo there is a house in Krumlov, in the second - in Rothenburg.

The town has a quiet and measured atmosphere: it is a real oasis of calm after the noisy tourist Prague. Local cats are in no hurry and bask in the sun.

Here and there in Krumlov you can see the original design of shops: for example, this photo shows the entrance to the store of the famous Kohinoor pencils and paints.

There are gingerbread shops, Czech liqueurs, souvenir shops - you can’t count everything. At the liqueur store, you can try your choice of liqueur for 25 CZK – with currant, cherry, pear and even carrot flavors! In the gingerbread shop you can buy a memorable gingerbread sweet with the inscription “Czech Krumlov”.

In souvenir shops, in addition to postcards and regular cards, they sell magnets with city motifs in bright, colorful colors. There are also a lot of magnets with the good soldier Schweik. The fact is that, according to Hasek’s book, Švejk served precisely in Southern Bohemia, where Krumlov is located.

We visited the natural soap and cosmetics store Botanicus, where we bought aromatic soap with kiwi and lime, as well as soap with orange and lemon as a gift. They paid 200 crowns for the purchase. In my opinion, this is an excellent gift option for loved ones - aunts, grandmothers, mothers. It looks very elegant and smells simply divine.

After meandering a little more through the streets of Krumlov, we went to the bus station, because... our bus left in 40 minutes. Although the walk from the center of Krumlov to the bus station is not far - about 15 minutes at a brisk pace. Not far from the bus station we spotted a Coop supermarket. We waited for our bus in the indoor terminal, where there is an arrival board, a free toilet and vending machines for coffee and snacks. This is what the bus station looks like from the outside.

In conclusion, I would like to recommend an independent trip to Cesky Krumlov to those tourists who do not like excursions and want to explore this town at their own pace without haste. In addition to the bus, it is convenient to get to Krumlov by direct train (travel time - 3 hours) or. The cost of renting a car starts from about €25 per day. per person.
