What do tourists report about their stay at this airport? Our article will tell you about all this.

A little history

Officially, Guangzhou Airport is called Baiyun. This name is very poetic, because translated it means “white clouds.” Previously, the provincial capital of Guangdong had a different airport. But after some time it could no longer cope with the increased passenger traffic. It was not possible to expand it, since it was located within the city, among residential buildings. Then it was decided to build new airport, and liquidate the old one. The hub, called Baiyun, received its first flight in 2004. It is five times larger than its predecessor. Almost two billion yuan were spent on its construction. Modern Harbour Air Southern China receives thirty million travelers a year. Thus, it ranks second in the country in terms of passenger traffic (after the Hub, it is the base for the aviation company China Southern Airlines.

What is Guangzhou Airport

Photos of the air harbor demonstrate its impressive size. The airport consists of one large building connected by galleries with landing wings that surround the hub on two sides - western and eastern. All check-in counters are located in the main part of the terminal. This is very convenient, since at other airports in the world passengers need to know where to get off the bus (or metro station) in order to get to the right hall for So, you go into the main hall of the terminal, look for your flight on the board and head to the right counter. There are also numerous shops nearby. The eastern zone A serves passengers flying abroad, while the western zone B is intended for domestic flights. Each zone has its own checkpoints for screening passengers and baggage to ensure security. Sleeves for boarding the plane extend from the side wings. Passengers arrive immediately at the main terminal.

Airport facilities

The air harbor of Southern China is amazing. Don't worry that you won't understand the signs in Chinese and get lost. Reviews from tourists characterize Guangzhou Airport as a very convenient and comfortable air harbor. Everything here is done to make travelers feel comfortable and safe. A huge food court provides wide choose cafes and restaurants serving both Chinese and European cuisines. In duty-free stores, time will fly by especially unnoticed, because the prices there cannot but please you. Checking areas are designed to avoid queues. The main terminal has ATMs, branches of financial institutions and car rentals, a post office, a VAT refund point, a police station, and a first-aid post. In the waiting rooms there are kiosks with souvenirs and the latest newspapers.

Guangzhou Airport: how to get to the city

The new hub was built in Huadu, twenty-eight kilometers from the provincial capital of Guangdong. This allowed the airport to receive and dispatch flights around the clock. The most economical way to get to the city is the metro (second line). The entrance to it is located directly in the main terminal. A metro ride will cost seven yuan. Guangzhou Airport is connected to the railway station by direct express bus. Cars run every half hour, a ticket costs about twenty-five yuan. There are other bus routes that can take you directly to the Pearl Garden, Pearl River, Globelink, White Palace, Sun City and United Star hotels. But public transport runs only from 6:00 to 23:00. If you arrive at night, you have only one option to get into the city - a taxi. There are many shipping companies in Guangzhou. Their cars differ in logos and, which is convenient for foreigners, in color. The cheapest ones are yellow, blue and brown taxis. A trip there will cost approximately 150 yuan.

How to get to Hong Kong

Tourists who come to relax at the resorts of the South China Sea should get to the railway station (by metro, express bus or taxi). What should those who are interested in the route Guangzhou (airport) - Hong Kong do? How to get to the special administrative zone on the peninsula? The distance between these points is 175 kilometers. You can overcome it by direct bus, the so-called coach. There are several competing companies providing such transportation. Their buses also differ in color. These are Go-Go Bus (red, yellow and white cars), Eternal East Cross-Border Coach (green), China Travel Tours Transportation (white). To get to Hong Kong by train, you must first take the subway to Guangzhou East Railway Station. From there, trains depart to the special administrative zone.

I managed to visit Baiyun Airport twice. To be honest, rarely in any country have I encountered such a high level of service for passengers as here. Please: a store, a variety of restaurants, comfortable waiting rooms... This air harbor, in my opinion, ranks second after the airport terminal in Amsterdam. I like the attitude towards passengers here.

Despite the daily workload and constant flow of people, I did not have any questions for the working staff. I especially noticed this at the check-in counters. It’s nice that, in addition to a sincere smile, the employees cope with their main responsibilities very quickly and efficiently. I appreciated the reasonable prices in duty free stores. I bought it for home:

  • perfumes;
  • sweets;
  • toys.
