In general, in the case of low-cost airlines, it is best to look for tickets on the official website, but it makes sense to check the price for the same dates on the Skyscanner metasearch engines and - sometimes an even lower price pops up there.

Prices for tickets from AirBerlin, Aeroflot, AirFrance, easyJet, UIA and Tyrolean Airways (with a transfer in Vienna) start at 11 thousand.

So, the cheapest way to get to Warsaw is by bus, and they are comfortable and equipped with everything you need, including Wi-Fi. The only disadvantage of this method is a very long trip. But along the way you can visit Riga or Vilnius.

The fastest and most comfortable option is, of course, airplanes. It can also be budget-friendly, if you live in St. Petersburg or close to the European border - you can get to the desired city by bus, and from there fly to Warsaw with a low-cost airline. It's not bad for Muscovites either - it's quite easy to find inexpensive tickets for Wizz Air flights to Budapest, and from there to Warsaw. This way you can see two cities at once!

In this article I will tell you how a tourist in Warsaw can deal with public transport. The metro in Warsaw is much less developed than in other European capitals, so tourists usually have questions:

  1. How to get from the hotel to the center of Warsaw? (address: Rondo de Gaulle'a, stop called MUZEUM NARODOWE 05)
  2. How to get to the Warsaw Uprising Museum? (address: Grzybowska 79, Warszawa)
  3. How to get to the Royal Lazienki Park ((Muzeum Łazienki Królewskie)? (address: al. Ujazdowskie 01-999 Warszawa)
  4. How to get to the Wilanów Palace and Park? (address: Stanisława Kostki Potockiego 10/16, 02-958 Warszawa)

These are the main attractions that may interest tourists in the capital of Poland. But there is also an absolutely universal way to find how to get from point A to point B in Warsaw, I will also talk about it in this article. I’ll also tell you how to buy a ticket for public transport in Warsaw.

Here I will remind readers that, according to the Russian folk proverb, the language will take you to Kyiv. In Warsaw, many speak Russian; as soon as we opened our mouths, and our family consists of 4 people and simply cannot remain silent, someone around us immediately began to help us with advice: how to get there, where to get off, how to buy a ticket. Don't be afraid to ask.

Like many European cities, Warsaw has a city public transport router (switches to English). Just enter the address of your hotel (you can copy it from booking.com, where you booked your stay or another similar site) and the destination address (see the points above, where I indicated the addresses for copying) and you will be offered a route by public transport.

Travel time and public transport route numbers will be shown when you hover over the “tram” or “bus” icons.

Travel time and possible transfers are important. Warsaw has several fares for public transport and two zones. I will only write about tickets for the first zone, since the vast majority of tourists still stay in it. Those interested can find information on the second zone on the router’s website.

Ticket prices:

  1. 20 minutes without transfers costs 3.40 zlotys (0.78 €)
  2. 75 minutes with transfers 4.40 zlotys (1.1 €)
  3. All day ticket 15 PLN in the first zone (3.46€)
  4. Weekend ticket from 19:00 on Friday to 8:00 on Monday 24 PLN (5.54€)
  5. Group ticket for 5 people for the weekend from 19:00 on Friday to 8:00 on Monday morning 40 zlotys (9.23€)
  6. Children under 6 years old free

Naturally, in Warsaw there are tickets for a month and even for 90 days, but most of all they will not be able to interest tourists.

Digital displays at public transport stops

Public transport in Warsaw runs on schedule, and digital boards are installed at stops showing how many minutes are left before the arrival of a particular tram or bus.

Once you have decided on the cost of tickets, let's move on to considering purchasing methods.

How to buy a ticket for public transport in Warsaw?

There are several ways:

  1. Buy your ticket from a newsagent, but all kiosks may be closed on Sunday.
  2. Buy a ticket directly from the automatic ticket office on a tram or bus, but not all trams and buses have ticket offices. In such cash registers it is customary to pay with coins. If you need to buy tickets for 4 people, then there may not be enough coins.
  3. Buy a ticket at the automatic ticket office at the tram stop. Such automatic ticket offices are located at many stops, but still not at all. We rode like a hare to the next stop, got out and bought a ticket. At the ticket office at the bus stop you can pay with a credit card, this is very convenient for tourists. Automatic cash registers in Warsaw switch to Russian, so there will be no difficulties in understanding.

This is what an automatic ticket sales station looks like

As soon as you board a tram or bus, you need to immediately validate your ticket. Composters punch the time and number of the route in which you did it.

Composter for single tickets in public transport in Warsaw

Trams in Warsaw are air-conditioned, so you will need to press a button on the tram door for the doors to open.

Modern trams in Warsaw

Digital displays are installed in public transport interiors. showing where a given tram or bus is currently located, where you can also see how many stops you still have left to go.

An example of a digital display inside a tram, stops that have already been passed are indicated in gray

How to get to the center of Warsaw

To take a walk around the center of Warsaw, just get to Charles de Gaulle Square (Rondo de Gaulle’a). There is also a monument to the French president in this square, but it is located on the side and is not conspicuous; the main landmark is a large artificial palm tree.

Place Charles de Gaulle

Further along Nowy Świat Street you can easily reach the famous and must-see Krakowskie Przedmieście Street, it is only 750 meters away. Krakowskie Przedmieście Street will lead you to the Royal Palace and the Old Town smoothly flowing into the New Town. Buses run along Krakowskie Przedmieście Street, but I think it deserves a stroll along it.

If it is more convenient for you to use the only line of the Warsaw metro, then you need to get to the Nowy Świat - Uniwersytet station.

I'll tell you in the next article.

How to get to the Warsaw Uprising Museum

The Warsaw Uprising Museum can be reached by trams No. 24, 1, 22 and bus No. 105, the stop is called Muzeum Powstania Warszawskiego.

The nearest metro station is Rondo Daszyńskiego, from it to the museum 550 meters. If your hotel is not served by any of the listed public transport routes, use a router.

How to get to the Wilanów Palace and Park?

The Wilanów Palace and Park are located 10 km from the city center and this is already 20 stops by bus.

Bus routes No. 139, 163, 164, 519, 700, 710, 724, 725, 742, N31, N50

The public transport network is quite developed in Warsaw and even better developed than in St. Petersburg, at least ground transport. In St. Petersburg, standing at a bus stop is not supported by any hope in the form of a timetable board, you just need to wait and not be nervous, sometimes you end up waiting a long time. But our metro trains run at intervals of 1 minute during peak hours and a ticket for travel is much cheaper.

Frederic Chopin Airport is the largest airport in Poland, with regular direct flights from major Russian cities. From this article you will learn how to get from Frederic Chopin Airport to the center of Warsaw, how much it costs and how long it will take. How to get from Frederic Chopin Airport to the city center

How to get from Frederic Chopin Airport to Warsaw

Frederic Chopin International Airport is not the only airport in Warsaw, but the largest in all of Poland. In addition to it, the capital is also served by the new Modlin Airport, which is designed for low-cost companies.

Chopin Airport is located within the city, 10 kilometers south of the capital's center. It is quite easy to get to by public transport, and it does not take much time.

There is only one Terminal A at the airport, which consists of two buildings - formerly Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Today they are combined, and there is a pedestrian corridor between the former buildings. You can, of course, get from one building to another along the street, because they are located very close.

Train

Cost: from 3.4 zlotys
Travel time: about 25 minutes
Opening hours: every 10-15 minutes from 5:50-23:10

To find the train station at Chopin Airport, just go outside from the arrivals hall of Terminal A, turn right and follow the sign “Pociąg”, that is, “Train”. Now it’s time to figure out which train you should take. If you are not confident in your abilities or in train routes (although everything is very simple), then feel free to go to the tourist information kiosk in the arrivals hall, and from there to the station.

You can get to the center of Warsaw from the airport either by high-speed train or by regular regional train. In both cases, the journey will not take you more than 25 minutes. Express trains are called “SKM”, they are red and white and generally stand out somewhat. These trains are more expensive than regular ones (a ticket costs 11-13 zlotys). Ordinary regional trains, that is, commuter trains, cost only 3.4 zlotys.

The train routes run through two stations (depending on the train, you can arrive at one or both): Warszawa Wschodnia (Warsaw East) or Warszawa Śródmieście (Warsaw Central). With SKM trains everything is simpler - they will definitely take you to the Central Station, from where it is close at hand to the main attractions of Warsaw and to any other point in the city by public transport.

The ticket can be purchased at the station from a special ticket machine (it only accepts zlotys, not euros). You can pay with cash coins or a bank card. On SKM trains, machines are installed directly in the carriages in case you didn’t have time to buy a ticket at the station. On trains, of course, this is not the case. In addition, train tickets must be validated yourself in a special machine at the station. A ticket that is not “punched” will not be considered valid, and the controllers will issue you a considerable fine.

The first trains leave from Warszawa Śródmieście (Warsaw Central) station at 5:50 am, and the last at 23:10. Trains run every 10-15 minutes, so you won’t have to wait long for the train.

Bus

Cost: from 3.5 zlotys
Travel time: 30-40 minutes
Opening hours: 24 hours a day

The bus stop is located right outside the arrival hall of Chopin Airport, you will see it immediately. And if you don’t notice it right away, don’t hesitate to ask your fellow travelers or passers-by. The bus is the most popular way for locals to get from Chopin Airport to the center of Warsaw.

The bus schedule is very conveniently located at this very stop, so you don’t even have to look for information about it at the airport. It is only important to know which bus goes where.

Route No. 175 goes straight to the center of Warsaw - to the main tourist streets, to the Centrum metro station and to the Central Station. During rush hours the bus runs every 7 minutes.

Route 148 goes to areas of the city such as Praha and Ursynów. He also passes the Imielin metro station. It runs every 10-15 minutes.

Route No. 188 runs between the airport and the city center. Its final stop is Politechnika metro station. It runs every 10-15 minutes.

Route No. 331 goes to the Wilanowska metro station. It will be convenient for those who are going on a trip around Europe or Poland by bus with the PolskiBus company, since it is at the stop of these buses that you will be dropped off. Runs only during rush hours.

Night route No. N32, just like No. 175, goes to Warsaw Central Station with the only difference that it does this at night, namely from 11 pm to 4:40 am, when other buses have a break.

You can buy a bus ticket from a ticket machine next to the bus stop. This must be done, as drivers do not accept payment. A ticket costs 3.5 zlotys for a 20-minute ride without transfers and 4.5 zlotys for a trip of no more than 75 minutes with the possibility of transferring to other public transport, such as the metro. It is very easy to understand the operation of the machine, since Russian is present in the languages it offers. Cash zlotys (not euros) or bank cards are accepted for payment.

Taxi

Cost: from 40 zlotys
Travel time: from 15 minutes
Opening hours: 24 hours a day

There are several official taxi services at Chopin Airport, including, for example: Ele Sky Taxi, Super Taxi or Sawa Taxi. The taxi rank is located to the left of the airport arrival hall exit. There are also taxi drivers from whom you can find out the price of the trip, route, etc. The same information can be obtained inside the airport, in the arrivals hall: at taxi service counters or at a tourist information kiosk.

All cars of official taxi services have a meter, according to the readings of which payment is made. To avoid fraud (and this happens even in seemingly trusted offices), keep track of how it is turned on and off, as well as the tariff number. 1-day time, 2-night time, 3 and 4-departure out of town or from the 2nd zone of Warsaw.

A taxi will take you to the city center (and anywhere in Warsaw) quickly and inexpensively. Just about 20 minutes of travel and 40-45 zlotys, and you are in the Old Town.

Car rent

The arrivals hall at Frédéric Chopin Airport houses the offices of some of the most famous car rental companies in Europe and the world. Among them: Hertz, Avis, Europcar, Budget and others. Their offices are open late, but not 24 hours a day, so you won’t be able to rent a car at night. If you arrive at night and need a car, go to the city, spend the night and in the morning pick up a car at offices located closer to the center of Warsaw.

It is better to book a car in advance via the Internet, since the price will be lower (and many companies also constantly hold promotions and discounts on their websites), and there will be more choice. Plus, you can warn the rental company in advance about the need for any additional equipment.

Transfer from Frederic Chopin Airport to Warsaw

The transfer is convenient because it will not only take you to any point in the city, but will also meet you in the arrivals hall. In addition, transfers are usually cheaper than taxis, and if you are traveling in a large group, then even cheaper than express trains. In order to use the transfer, you just need to order a car from home online (how to do this is described here "
") and make an advance payment. To order a transfer now or just ask the price, fill out the form below.
