The opening of autumn hunting begins from June-August for most regions, and is carried out for poultry and game. The exact dates and total duration depend on the region and type of resource, and fishing method.

Opening of autumn hunting: features and timing

Autumn hunting begins in the summer - in June-August, while the exact dates are regulated by special Rules and depend on the type of resources and are divided into the following groups:

  • mountain, steppe, field and other game – the season starts on the 2nd-3rd Saturday of August and ends on December 31st;
  • marsh-meadow, as well as waterfowl, mountain game - the season opens on the 3rd Saturday of August and ends on December 31 inclusive;
  • Borovaya – the season starts on the 3rd Saturday and lasts until the last days of February (28th or 29th);
  • tundra, white partridge – the hunting season begins on the 3rd Saturday of August and ends on April 20;
  • common and humpbacked scoters - this season is the longest, it starts on June 1 and lasts almost a year (needs to be checked for a specific region).

Prohibitions on behavior and fishing

According to the adopted Rules, autumn hunting has a number of prohibitions and restrictions aimed at preserving resources. This list includes the following prohibitions:

  • use of smooth-bore weapons with buckshot from 5 mm;
  • the use of long-barreled firearms, combined weapons with rifled barrels;
  • use of lighting technology;
  • using electronic sound devices as bait to imitate bird and other sounds;
  • the use of self-catchers for game birds during sport and amateur hunting;
  • movement around the grounds on flying, swimming and other mechanical means with the engine turned on, movement by inertia after turning off the engine, provided that the weapon is uncovered and ready for use.

Types and features

You can start hunting in the autumn season as early as August, but the exact dates depend on the type of hunting, the means and methods used. There are four types:

  • with birds of prey and dogs;
  • on the bear;
  • on ungulates;
  • on fur animals.

The hunting season with the use of birds of prey and dogs lasts from August 5 to December 31 for catching field, upland or steppe game, for swamp-meadow game the periods are from July 25 to December 31. Only continental or island pointing dogs, spaniels, retrievers or specially trained falconry dogs can be used for hunting. Groups of up to three people can go hunting for feathered game with dogs (most often spaniels act in this capacity), and everyone must have a hunting license, a weapons permit, a voucher and a permit to extract resources of a certain type. When using birds of prey, a permit for breeding and keeping birds in special conditions is additionally required.

Bear hunting will open from August 1st to November 30th for white-breasted (brown) breeds and from August 1st to May 31st for common brown ones.

The autumn season for ungulates has different start dates, depending on the species of animals, divided into 17 groups. So, you can start hunting wild boar or sika deer (only males who have reached adulthood) from June 1, and musk deer - from November 1. On August 1, the season opens for wild deer, musk ox, chamois, saiga, aurochs, and bighorn sheep. The autumn season for European or Siberian roe deer, elk, red deer, sika deer, fallow deer, mouflon, and bison hybrids starts on October 1st.

Autumn fur hunting involves division into 9 groups with different start dates:

  • chipmunk (from the 3rd Saturday in August);
  • mole (from June 1 to October 25);
  • gophers and marmots (from June 1 to September 30);
  • opening of the season for catching animals such as hare, fox, wild rabbit, raccoon dog (from September 15 to the end of February);
  • fishing for animals such as water vole and muskrat (from October 1 to April 1);
  • fishing for otter and Canadian or European beaver (from October 1 to the end of February);
  • mink, sable and others (from October 1 to the end of February);
  • badger season (from August 15th to the end of October);
  • arctic fox (from October 1 to April 1).

No matter when hunting opens, all areas must adhere to established rules, including the correct distribution of game into groups. You can see the features of fishing for a particular species in numerous videos, taking into account that the Rules establish the following division of game:

  • mountain game – snowcocks, chukars;
  • field, steppe - quail, turtle doves, partridge of various types, saj, pheasant;
  • upland - this includes black grouse, woodcock, the same class includes capercaillie, hazel grouse, as well as tundra or white partridge;
  • marsh-meadow - this category includes snipe, species such as lapwing, curlew, herbal, tule, as well as corncrake and many others, with the corresponding natural habitat;
  • waterfowl is such game as goose, goose, moorhen, coot;
  • other types of game - gulls, loons, as well as terns and cormorants.

You must also remember that information about all hunted game must be submitted to the place where the hunting permit was issued within a strictly established time frame. For bears and ungulates the period is 10 days, for other species – 20 days. These requirements must be strictly observed, which allows you to avoid liability, large fines, and deprivation of a mining permit.

Traditionally, hunting opens in the fall for game, ungulates, bears, and fur-bearing animals. Quiet zones do not operate at this time; they are typical only for the spring season; individual dates can be set in each year, which depends on regional and climatic conditions. Compared to spring, the autumn season is more varied and rich, complex and exciting, it is very popular among amateurs and professionals who use various fishing methods.

The spring hunting season in the Moscow region traditionally opens on the third Saturday of April and will last ten calendar days. Spring hunting is permitted only for waterfowl and upland game.

  • spring hunting in the Moscow region - from April 16 to April 25, 2016

Based on the order of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Moscow Region, norms of permissible prey during the spring hunt:

  • capercaillie on a lek - one individual (male) per hunting season from one lek, on which there are at least 5 lekking males at the same time;
  • grouse on a lek - one individual (male) per hunting season from one lek, on which there are at least 5 lekking males at the same time.

During the spring hunt 2016 in the Moscow region there are a number of restrictions and prohibitions.

All hunters need to remember to follow the rules of spring hunting. Let us remind you that it is prohibited:

  • spring woodcock hunting in the morning draft;
  • spring hunting from the approach (with the exception of wood grouse hunting on a lek);
  • spring hunting with dogs of hunting breeds, birds of prey (except for the use of dogs for searching for wounded game birds and serving game birds);
  • spring hunting for female ducks, wood grouse, black grouse;
  • spring hunting for hazel grouse, coot, moorhen;
  • spring hunting of geese in the most important places of their migration and nesting, as well as on the water and at a distance of less than 200 meters from its edge, taking into account the flood.
In the Moscow region, gray duck and pintail are also prohibited.

Hunters are asked comply with fire safety rules when staying in hunting grounds of the Moscow region and safety rules when hunting. Unfortunately, along with the opening of the hunting season, the number of violations sharply increases. The most common ones- this is aimless wandering around the land with a gun (although in the spring season this is unacceptable, since hunting can only be done from shelters), hunting is not at all those species that are allowed (they kill gulls, waders, curlews, beavers, foxes and hares, in a word, apparently , everything that comes into the sight), as well as the lack of permission to hunt. For ten days, hunting inspectors are going to patrol the forests in an intensive mode.

Opening dates for autumn-winter hunting in 2019 in Russia by region

Every hunter must remember which animal and when hunting is allowed. This is akin to knowing the rules of the road. Failure to comply with the established deadlines for shooting ungulates, birds or fur-bearing animals can lead to serious troubles for the hunter, for example, a large fine, confiscation of weapons or even deprivation of a license. Therefore, we invite you to find out the periods for shooting fur-bearing animals, ungulates and birds in all regions using our hunter’s calendar for 2019.

Terms and conditions for opening the hunt

Hunters live from the beginning to the end of the season, waiting for the start date to start hunting. Each season is unique and individual in its own way. Therefore, the timing and procedures for opening hunts may vary significantly. This also applies to regions. For example, the opening of autumn hunting in the Moscow region in 2019 begins at one time, and the autumn hunting season in the Leningrad region may start at a completely different time.

The exact opening and closing times of the hunt are determined by weather conditions, region of Russia and other parameters. Orders on the opening of the hunting season are formed separately in a specific administrative unit of our country and are communicated to the public through the media. In addition, the exact conditions and openings of the hunt can be found out:

1. on the websites of regional administrations;

2. in local newspapers;

3. in hunting management departments.

Each period involves shooting a certain type of animal. The timing of shooting in the regions may shift slightly. In addition, regional permits may be introduced to shoot animals that cause harm throughout the entire period. Quite often, stray dogs, wolves, foxes or crows fall into this category. However, even in this case, appropriate permission to shoot them may be required.

Traditionally, the shooting of animals occurs in 3 periods:

1. Spring shooting of game. In most cases, it is short-lived and lasts 10 calendar days.

2. Summer-autumn. A special time for shooting lovers, because its duration exceeds 3 months. This period is the longest.

3. Shooting in winter is usually permitted for 30 days.
