Guide to the UAE in Russian. Useful applications on iOS and Android for tourists in Dubai and the UAE

The United Arab Emirates receives more and more tourists every year, most of them from Russia. Where do our tourists fly? The most popular emirate for holidays is Dubai. He gained his popularity for a reason. This is where all the infrastructure, crazy skyscrapers and expensive hotels. You can stay in the city of Dubai itself, as well as on the coast of Jumeirah. It all depends on the thickness of the wallet. City hotels have poor territory, their pools are located on the roof, there are no balconies and, of course, they are far from the beach. Therefore, saving on accommodation, you will have to take a bus to the public beach. And imagine what it’s like to be in a concrete city in 40 degree heat. It's obviously hard. Air conditioners are a lifesaver; they are even available at bus stops, which is definitely a plus.

Dubai city.

Relaxing on the coast of Jumeirah is much better. Luxurious hotels, high service, beautifully decorated areas. It is here that the well-known Burj Al Arab sail hotel is located, to which the excursion alone costs $100.

How much does a holiday in Abu Dhabi cost? March 2019.

tour cost

This year we chose the United Arab Emirates, since in March there is ideal weather for both excursion and beach holiday. The cost of the tour for 7 nights for three people was 106 thousand rubles and we took about 50,000 rubles with us. We flew from Yekaterinburg, since the nearest city of Tyumen sends tourists to the UAE from Roshchino airport for more high price. We got to Yekaterinburg by train, but in any case the price was lower than the flight from Tyumen.

We spent two days in Abu Dhabi, the rest of the time we lived in Sharjah. Abu Dhabi is the capital, so prices for hotel accommodation and food here are several times higher, but at the same time there are fewer comfortable beaches here, so I advise you to choose Sharjah or Ajman if you are planning a beach holiday.

Food and products

Lunch in an Abu Dhabi restaurant for a family will cost about 200 dirhams (in rubles this is about 4000). You can save money by going to shopping centers in the food court area, where you will find restaurants fast food with sets for 40 dirhams, which includes food and drinks.

Souvenirs and other goods

There is nothing cheap in the Emirates, although you can often hear that many people go there for shopping. This is especially true for gold. Firstly, it is of a higher standard, but at the same time it looks like cheap yellow jewelry, and costs from 20 to 50 thousand rubles for a 42 cm chain. Secondly, you can easily be deceived by selling gold of a lower standard for a lot of money, realizing that you don’t understand this, but simply decided that there is a lot of gold in the Emirates, so it should be cheap.

Total money spent on vacation

Helpful information?

Impressions from a holiday in March

For me personally, it was a great time to relax, the air temperature was up to +30 degrees, and the sea warmed up to +26, a very comfortable month for a trip. Moreover, at that time there was still snow and it was cold, but here we got into summer and enjoyed it to the fullest.

Vacation with children

Dubai has a lot of entertainment for families with children: excellent water parks, Legoland, Zabeel Park, warm sea and the Ferrari Museum (especially for boys, it’s a fairy tale).

Family holiday

Dubai has plenty of entertainment for the whole family, have a great holiday It is enough to have the mood and cash.

What to take with you on vacation?

Be sure to take a protection cream of at least 60 SPF, you can get sunburned very quickly here. If you are planning to go on a desert safari, then of course you need scarves. If you decide to celebrate your arrival on vacation with a glass of wine or strong alcohol, it is better to bring it with you, because you will not be able to buy it in Dubai (only in bars, restaurants, clubs, where the price is correspondingly much higher). And of course, take with you all the cash you don’t mind spending, because in the Dubai Mall you will want to spend everything.

About 7 thousand years ago, instead of an urban settlement, there were mangroves that formed a swamp. Later, due to changes in the coastline, the landscape of this region also changed, clean sand. The very first settlement is considered to be the Sassanids, who lived here from the third to the seventh centuries AD. After the arrival of the Umayyads, Islam began to spread throughout the territory. For a very long time, peasants here loved to obtain pearls and fish. The very first urban settlement was discussed in 1799; the territory immediately came under the control of the main emirate of Abu Dhabi. When power is in Dubai passed to the Al-Maktoum dynasty, the territory became independent. In 1929, the invention of artificial pearls gradually became a major activity in the Dubai, and the economy went into decline. In this regard, Sheikh Saeed ordered that Dubai be made a center for global re-export. Later, deposits of oil and natural gas were discovered, this discovery helped Dubai develop at a breakneck pace and made it one of the main business centers in the world.

Shopping in Dubai

Yes, indeed, 20 years ago in the UAE it was possible to purchase real, high-quality goods at reasonable prices. Now the situation has changed; over the years, sellers have begun to feel the trend of benefits of buying in the Middle East. The thirst for profit now leads to the fact that sellers are simply trying to make money from their customers. Therefore, now you need to know what to take and where, check it several times for quality. Prices in the United Arab Emirates are close to the standard of Russian prices, but you will not find such an abundance of goods in our stores.
It is worth learning a simple rule that the price-quality ratio has always been high. And you can’t hope to buy a world famous brand on the cheap.

Any tourist planning to go shopping is faced with the question of where and how to exchange currency.
Dirham is the traditional currency of the UAE. One dollar is equal to 3.6 dirhams. The UAE currency is tied to the dollar exchange rate very strictly; this decision in 1997 seemed correct to the Emirati authorities, until the dollar exchange rate lost several units. As for the conversion to rubles, one dirham is equal to 16 Russian units. Currency is exchanged at an exchange office or at a bank. IN exchange office They can easily take a commission, find out about this in advance. In the UAE, all price tags and all goods are sold in dirhams; other currencies are prohibited. Dirhams can be taken out of the country freely. But with an amount of more than 40,000 dirhams, you will have to go to customs and fill out a declaration.

Tips for tourists: how to have a successful shopping experience in Dubai
- due to such a huge variety of goods, you need to clearly know why you came and what you intend to take away. You need to set aside two amounts. One will be general, which includes the budget for all planned purchases. And the other amount will be calculated for spontaneous purchases that you really wanted to take with you from the windows. A spontaneous amount will be needed in any case, because you are traveling to an unfamiliar country and don’t really know the assortment, other than general ideas.
- shop alone so that neither your husband, nor your girlfriend, nor your child can lead you off course. You should be happy with every item you buy without a doubt.
- don’t be lazy to make a list of necessary purchases and the maximum prices you are willing to pay. This will make shopping more painless and faster.
- no need to rush headlong to sweep away all the items on sale. Dubai will not be an exception in selling low-quality goods at a ridiculous price.
- it is necessary to bargain. In shopping centers, prices are often fixed, but at gold markets and other places, bargaining goes off with a bang. Sellers will be happy to bargain with a woman, so turn on your natural charm and go ahead!
- in the emirates you are most likely to buy high-quality fur coats, branded clothing and shoes, the highest quality cosmetics and real perfume.
= fur coats in Dubai can be seen in Abraj, Crystal Building, Crystal Building, Landmark Plaza Hotel.

Transport in Dubai

Traveling on foot Dubai- only for those who love hot weather and walks. This method is hardly suitable for everyone else, because during the day in Dubai hot. But you can use one of the following types of transport.

Dubai Metro
It is common, but not everywhere. You will only be able to travel to the station that exists today. Despite this, traveling by metro is the most profitable. If you want to see the Dubai metro and nothing more, then buy one ticket from the point of departure to the final station. The plus is that the Dubai Metro is above ground. For a study tour, the main thing is not to get into rush hour when there is a crush.
If you plan to travel by metro regularly, then for the greatest benefit, purchase a silver metro card. Its cost is 20 dirhams. The most positive thing about purchasing such a card is that you will not spend more than 14 dirhams per day. Trips exceeding the specified limit are free of charge. You can also put money on your silver card and get on at any metro station. Regarding disposable cards: where you buy it, sit down there!

Taxi in Dubai
This is the most expensive transport, but at the same time the most convenient. A taxi can pick you up from anywhere and take you anywhere.
It's worth remembering:
- upon landing, 3 dirhams are charged, for each next kilometer 2 dirhams, on toll roads another 4 dirhams;
- travel from emirate to emirate 20 dirhams;
- if you order a car to the hotel, then landing will cost 6-10 dirhams;
- ordering a taxi to the airport - 25 dirhams;
- when getting into a taxi, clearly state your destination and pretend to be someone who has been here not for the first time, as cunning taxi drivers can take roundabout routes and withdraw much more money.

Dubai Buses
Traveling by bus will be the fastest way to travel, since there is a separate lane dedicated to it. Here, every bus is equipped with air conditioning, which is important when traveling in such weather conditions. There are almost no local residents on the bus; they prefer to travel in their own cars. The bulk of people using buses are tourists and visiting workers.

Car rental in Dubai
If you feel confident on the roads and have an extra 100-1500 dirhams per day, then this option will please you. Gasoline in the emirates is relatively inexpensive; you will have to pay for it in addition to renting a car. It is better to take a car with a navigator, because it is easy to get lost in Dubai.

Dubai - world capital business relations. Businessmen from all over the world come here to make profitable deals. But this city is of interest not only to businessmen; tourists can find perhaps even more interesting things here. After all, you are destined for many adventures and entertainment. Just have more money ready!

Based on the results of my last trip to Abu Dhabi and Dubai, I decided to add. I have supplemented the new edition with applications useful for traveling to Abu Dhabi. Find your way around the city and save money: taxi, maps, navigator, transport, routes and much more.

The permanent leader in my rating of travel apps in the UAE, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. This is perhaps the most useful application. Roaming in the UAE is very expensive for Russian subscribers, and Internet roaming is a total waste. This application downloads a map of the area to the phone's memory and allows you to work with it, build routes and navigate without going online.

Download the free MAPS.ME app from the App Store for iOS or from Google Play for Android.

The most popular and convenient currency converter. Enter the amount from the price tag in dirhams and see how much it is in rubles or dollars. It does not require Internet access to work, but it is better to update exchange rates once a day.

Download the free XE Currency app from the App Store for iOS or Google Play for Android.

Local equivalent of Uber. In my opinion, even better than Uber. This taxi booking service is verified to work in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Most likely also operates in Sharjah and other emirates. It costs more than a taxi on the street, but there are a number of significant advantages: good white Lexus, ordering at a certain time, preliminary cost calculation, cultured drivers.

You can get a 20 AED discount on your first trip with Careem if you enter a promo code when ordering a taxi JELXNR7N83 or register via the link https://careem.com/signup/JELXNR7N83.

Attention! The following Wojhati app is considered outdated and is not guaranteed to function.

Dubai trip planner. This is the official application of Dubai Transport Authority (RTA Dubai), with which you can get directions to public transport- bus, metro, tram, water bus or taxi. The application shows the nearest transport departures, places of nearest stops, travel time and cost. An Internet connection is required for the application to work.

Download the free Wojhati app from the App Store for iOS or from Google Play for Android.

Big Bus Tours, it seems to me, has the most affordable and convenient excursions on double decker buses in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Tickets for the tour bus can be purchased on the official Big Bus Tours website. The application contains information about all routes and stopping places, as well as tracking the movement of all buses. Using the app, you can find out where the nearest tour bus stop is and when the next bus arrives. An Internet connection is required for the application to work.

Download the free Big Bus Tours app from the App Store for iOS or from Google Play for Android.

The official app of the Louvre Abu Dhabi Museum. The application contains information about the exhibitions, main exhibits, information about the museum, and most importantly, inside there is a real audio guide that can work offline! Since visiting the Louvre is strictly necessary, this application will be very useful to you.

Download the free Louvre app Abu Dhabi– Guide from the App Store for iOS or from Google Play for Android.

The official application of the Dubai Department of Tourism. It has all the same problems as any official source of information. Marketing description of points of interest and modest functionality. But this is the only decent guide to Dubai so far. When I have time, I’ll write my own :-) . An Internet connection is required for the application to work.
