Katathani Phuket Beach Resort 5* is a modern hotel located in picturesque area Phuket near Kata Noi beach. Many tourists from Russia and China come here, as well as citizens Western Europe. The complex was built in 1987, but its large-scale renovation was completed in 2017. There are 11 buildings on the territory, which are located in two zones, depending on their proximity to the beach. For birthdays, birthday people will receive a cake and a greeting card, and regular customers will also receive compliments.
Most of the activities for children are located in Buri Wing, there is a mini club, a games room with multi-level mazes and a new swimming pool. On the territory there is a playground with fountains and splashers, where children will have fun playing with their peers.
In the evenings the garden is quite quiet; the musicians stop playing at nine in the evening. When the sea waves rise, you can swim in one of the 6 pools. Umbrellas and sun loungers are installed near them. There are elevators everywhere, and the park is well looked after. Gardeners regularly mow lawns and remove fallen leaves. Active recreation enthusiasts will enjoy the tennis court. The hotel is very popular due to its proximity to the sea, varied menu, excellent cafes and bars.
Parents with children loved coming to this complex because entertainment program, which is considered very rare for Thailand.
The territory is divided into 2 parts by a road. The buildings of the first zone are lined up along the shore, with restaurants, cafes and swimming pools located nearby. Just behind the buffet where breakfast is served, there is small lake with lilies. Nearby there is a gym, a billiards room and a souvenir shop.
Rooms

Families with children are not recommended to book rooms in building eight, as it is located very close to the road. At night it can be noisy due to disco sounds. The quietest rooms are closer to the mountain.
The rooms are spacious, divided into several zones, the parents' bed is separated from the extra bed (single bed or sofa) by a screen partition. A separate area serves as a living room, with a sofa, coffee table and desk. The walls are decorated with unusual paintings. The bathroom can have either a simple shower or a bath, depending on the selected category. There is also a bag for beach towels.
Upon check-in, administrators will ask for a deposit. In 2019, the sum was $100 and 200 baht, from which the cost of cocktails on the beach was deducted. Guests may be offered a free dinner if they wait too long to check in. Wi-Fi is paid. Internet speed is uneven, sometimes it is too slow. According to tourists, there is a good signal near the restaurant, which is located behind the pool on the left half of the territory.
There are several accommodation options:
- deluxe (quiet area, extra bed on the sofa, maximum 3 people);
- family grand deluxe (quiet zone, dividing rooms into zones, 2+2 people);
- junior suites (regular and with sea view, 5 seats);
- grand suites with sea view (5 places).
The floors in the bedroom are wooden, the air conditioning is conveniently located. There is a TV, DVD player, hairdryer, kettle, minibar and safe. Depending on the floor, the room may have a balcony or terrace. They clean it daily, but sometimes there are complaints about the quality. It is better to take mosquito repellent with you. Every day the maids bring 2 bottles of water and a set of tea and coffee.
Nutrition

Vacationers can choose several food options: some breakfast; half board and full board. In the mornings, breakfast is served at the buffet, where there is a buffet. The choice of dishes is quite large. You can have lunch and dinner according to a fixed menu; all other dishes and drinks are paid additionally. Porridge and dairy products are very rare; in the mornings they are often served:
- scrambled eggs;
- omelettes;
- cheese and sausage slices;
- puff pastries, croissants;
- pancakes;
- cakes;
- cereal with milk;
- fruits (melons, watermelons, bananas, pineapples).
There are many cafes near the hotel, but many prefer to dine in the restaurants on site. Prices there are higher than on the street, but sanitary standards are observed when preparing food.
Fisherman's Wharf and Secret offer creamy soups for children. For the little ones it’s better to take it from home baby food, instant cereals, yoghurts and other dairy products. Many note that full board is not always a profitable option, since even in a la carte restaurants you can only choose dishes from a fixed menu for free.
Chom Talay serves Thai dishes, while Fisherman's Wharf offers European cuisine in addition to local food. La Scala and Seaside chefs will prepare pizza, pasta, macaroni and cheese and other Italian dishes. Parents with children prefer to go to a buffet for dinner, where they serve a buffet. In restaurants, sometimes you have to wait for your order. If the family leaves late, the restaurant will prepare a lunch box. There are also 5 bars on site. You can go to the restaurant of the neighboring Mom Tris hotel, where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the sea. The cooks there cook very well, but the complex itself is not very suitable for living with small children.
Staff
The level of service at Katathani is consistent with five stars. Upon check-in, guests are treated to soft drinks. The waiters are very friendly and enjoy communicating with children. Some know a little Russian. Also during the season there is an employee to work with Russian-speaking clients. You can communicate with the rest in English. There are many cleaners working on the territory who sweep the paths and keep the park clean. Gardeners mow the lawns, and there are employees who regularly clean the pools.
Entertainment and animation

The complex has a free internet corner where you can work on your computer. Tourists will be offered to visit a gym, a beauty salon, a SPA center, play table tennis and billiards for free, and also rent a tennis court, where the lights are turned on in the evenings.
Although there is no active animation, water aerobics classes are held in the pool in the mornings. The restaurants often feature live music in the evenings, and on some days there are acrobat shows, fire performances and dancer performances. Sometimes guests are invited to go to observation deck. A program with all the entertainment is available in every room. The staff at the children's club do not speak Russian, you can only speak English with them, but children can easily find mutual language with teachers. The game room has a whole multi-level town with ladders and bridges.
The Aqua Play zone is usually open until 17, there are water slides, fountains and all kinds of water sprinklers.
There are also 6 swimming pools, the newest of which is Seven Seas, located on the territory of Buri Wing. For a fee, parents can hire a nanny for their children. During the holidays, many fun competitions are organized for children. Rows of souvenir sellers line up near the central building several times a week, and artists also come here to paint portraits for everyone. They also offer paid courses on Thai cuisine, master classes on cutting fruit figures, yoga classes and Master Chef courses for children.
Beach

Kata Noi is ranked second in beauty after Freedom Beach. You can reach it in 3 minutes from any building. The coastal strip of sand extends along a small bay. There are fewer people here than on Kata Beach, which is located a little further north. Directly from here begins the road through the mountain pass leading to Neu Harn. Along the way, you can stop by a park with elephants and go up to the observation deck. There are many restaurants near Kata Noi with beautiful view on the sea. In summer beach strip very narrow, and at the end of November they rise to the sea big waves. On such days, a red flag is placed in the sand.
There is sometimes a shuttle bus to Patong, but this beach is noticeably inferior to Kata Noi in terms of the beauty of the sea and coast.
In the water, stinging plankton sometimes swim close to the shore. Although the burns from it are almost invisible, many Chinese tourists prefer to swim in bathing T-shirts. On the beach, vacationers often play volleyball or run in the morning. The entrance to the sea is gentle, the ebb and flow of the tides are usually not very noticeable. Many people sunbathe on sun loungers under palm trees, which are located 20 meters from the water. You can walk to Kata in 15 minutes, and there is also a tuk-tuk service. The easiest way to get to the paid Freedom Beach is by water, but it is located at some distance.
Location and surroundings
From the main airport of Phuket to Katatani you can drive in 40–55 minutes, the distance is about 50 km. Patong is 14 km away, the easiest way to get there is by tuk-tuk or taxi. A shuttle bus into the city departs from the hotel gates twice daily. Many vacationers do not have the best impressions of the sightseeing tour, since the bus often stops near shops where sellers are intrusively trying to sell their goods. Before the statue Big Buddha on the hill you can get there by taxi, next to it there is a beautiful observation deck. Tourists make excellent videos during the “Path of the Avatar” excursion to the filming locations of the famous film, but you shouldn’t take small children on it.
Older children enjoy monkey shows, trips to a honey factory and elephant rides through the jungle. At Kata Beach you can buy fresh fruit and unusual souvenirs. Bangla Road, where most of the bars and restaurants are located, is 12 km away.
Good photos can be taken in the Upside Down House. Children like this museum because it is built upside down. By taking a photo in one of the rooms and turning the photo over, everyone can imagine that they are floating in zero gravity.
Local offices offer trips to James Bond Island and Bounty Island (Ko Samet), as well as trips to protected forests Khao Phra Teo, where you can admire waterfalls, swim in clear lakes, see monkeys and tropical birds.
