Yamal: baggage and hand luggage rules. Excess baggage allowance on Yamal airline aircraft Yamal airline baggage allowance

Changes to the laws were made back in the fall. Airlines continue to adjust their rules to suit them. And passengers are surprised, indignant, overpay and waste their nerves at airports. So what is the current size and weight of carry-on luggage on an airplane?

It seemed that the scandals associated with the introduction of baggage-free fares and new rules for carrying hand luggage on airplanes had died down. But a wave of reposts and indignations has just swept across social networks: they say that Aeroflot has cut the list of things that can be taken on board for free by three times, and even excluded mobile phones from it!

Let's figure out who cut what and what. And the main thing is what Russian passengers can take on board and what size and weight of hand luggage is currently allowed on the plane.

WHAT IS HAND BAGGAGE

This is what we take with us into the cabin of the plane. Whether it’s a bag, a backpack, a small suitcase, a plastic bag, a basket, a picture, a knapsack... A small dog, by the way, does not apply to carry-on luggage; there are special rules for transporting animals. Unlike hand luggage, we hand over our luggage at the check-in counter at the airport and it does not fly with us, but in the luggage compartment.

MINIMUM REQUIRED BY LAW

Back in November 2017, the changes that the Ministry of Transport made to the Air Transportation Rules by its order came into force. Important! The rules state the MINIMUM. Airlines do not have the right to make conditions worse, but it is a matter of their goodwill to make conditions better - as much as they want.

But first, about the minimum requirements:

5 kg is the weight of hand luggage, which a passenger is guaranteed to be able to take on board any Russian airline for free. The order does not prohibit airlines from maintaining more generous norms (for example, allowing hand luggage weighing 10 kg - such a norm applies, say, to Aeroflot and S7). And, of course, 5 kg must comply with aviation safety standards (that is, liquids - in containers up to 100 ml, no weapons, piercing or cutting objects, and so on).

! The list of things that a passenger can take on board for free has been changed IN ADDITION to the free hand luggage allowance. It contains: handbags, briefcases, backpacks, baby food and strollers, a bouquet of flowers. Outerwear, fortunately, they also decided not to exclude it from the list of free things. It was not included in the first version of the amendments, and this caused confusion among experts and tourists - how can one fly without jackets and fur coats in our northern country, especially in winter? Officials listened, outerwear remained free. Also on the list - crutches, walkers, canes, folding wheelchairs, if they fit under the seat or on a shelf above it.

! Mobile phones, cameras, laptops and other gadgets, as well umbrellas and books, were excluded from the list of things that can be taken into the cabin for free ABOVE the carry-on baggage allowance. Argument of the Ministry of Transport: they can be put away in a handbag, briefcase or backpack. With a mobile phone - no problem, you can put it in your pocket, and it’s lightweight and won’t create an advantage. But a professional camera or laptop taken together may well do so. IMPORTANT! The fact that phones and other gadgets have been excluded from the list of free things does not mean that they will certainly charge you for a cell phone or tablet when boarding a plane. It’s just that they, along with all things, must meet the standard that applies to a given carrier. There are no more exceptions for gadgets.

But this list included medicines, duty free purchases and backpacks, which is really useful. True, there is a clause in the order about backpacks: the weight and dimensions of “free” backpacks are set by the carrier.

! Airlines can weigh hand luggage not only at the check-in counter, but also when boarding the flight. Technically it is not difficult. Nowadays, many airports have limits that control the size of things: if it fits, take it on the plane; if not, check your luggage. They can also place scales at the boarding gates. It is clear that only those bags and backpacks that raise doubts about their weight will be measured and weighed, and not everything in a row. This is no longer from the order, but from common sense - it is not profitable for the airline to delay landing.

Now let’s look specifically at each airline: who operates strictly according to the “living wage”, and who left or introduced more generous standards for hand luggage.

"AEROFLOT": WE MEASURE AND CHECK

In addition to this, a Utair passenger can take into the aircraft cabin for free:

- backpack dimensions no more than 40x25x20 cm, weight no more than 5 kg, or handbag, or a briefcase with things put into a backpack, or bag, or briefcase;

Bouquet of flowers; outerwear; baby food for the child during the flight; suit in a suitcase;

A device for carrying a child (baby cradle, restraint systems (devices) for children under two years of age, baby stroller and other devices) with dimensions no more than 65x40x20 cm;

Medicines and dietary meals for the duration of the flight;

Crutches, canes, walkers, rollators, folding wheelchairs used by a passenger and having dimensions that allow them to be safely placed on a shelf above the passenger seat or under the seat in front of them;

Items purchased from duty-free shops at the airport, packaged in one sealed plastic bag, weighing no more than 3 kg.

Among the differences: more generous sizes of a backpack and a baby stroller, the size of a duty-free bag is not limited (although here little depends on the passenger, what kind they will pack in the store).

"VICTORY": INCONSISTENCY OF WEIGHT AND SIZE

If Pobeda simply had strict standards, no one would be surprised. But they are also non-standard! The only domestic low-cost airline There is no weight limit for carry-on luggage at all! And even its quantity. Unexpected, right? That is, take as much as you want? Why don’t tourists rejoice and write praises about the attraction of unheard-of generosity?

It’s very simple: everything you take into the cabin of a Pobeda aircraft should be no larger than . And this total size of ALL items- both just carry-on luggage and what is listed in the Federal Aviation Regulations. Outerwear, backpack, handbag, backpack, baby food and so on (see above).

I quote the rules of Pobeda: “For safe placement in the passenger cabin, the maximum total dimensions of hand luggage and items from paragraph 135 of FAP-82 (these are the ones you can take in addition to free hand luggage. - Ed.) should not exceed 36 x 30 x 27 centimeters (total size of all items). Hand luggage and items from paragraph 135 of FAP-82 are not limited in quantity and weight, but must be freely placed in the calibrator (meter)."

Now imagine how you will fit a bag, a coat and a laptop into this parallelepiped, where the largest side is only 36 cm. It won’t fit at all. You'll have to choose one thing, and even then it's not a fact that it will fit. You can immediately forget about a suitcase on wheels, if it is not a doll's one. About a large laptop - too.

Yamal Airlines was founded in 1997. The airline uses aircraft such as Boeing 737-400, Boeing 737-500, Airbus A320-200, CRJ-200 for charter flights.

Free baggage allowance

For one passenger up to 20 kg luggage

The free baggage allowance does not apply to:

  • the passenger's belongings, regardless of their name and purpose, the dimensions of which when packed exceed 203 cm in the sum of three dimensions (the total size of the three dimensions of each piece of luggage);
  • passenger belongings, regardless of their name and purpose, weighing more than 32 kg per piece;
  • courier correspondence and parcels accompanied by department specialists;
  • sports gear and equipment (skis, skateboards, etc.);
  • pets (birds), with the exception of guide dogs accompanying passengers with visual impairments.

Transportation of the specified baggage is paid based on its actual weight at the airline's tariffs, regardless of the passenger's other items transported as baggage.

Transportation of sports equipment

On all charter flights of Yamal Airlines, one passenger is allowed free transportation of ski equipment (a pair of alpine skis with ski poles or a snowboard) in a case and additional equipment (helmet, goggles, special clothing and shoes), while the total weight of the passenger’s luggage should not exceed the free baggage allowance. The free baggage allowance corresponds to the class of service.

When traveling together, passengers are allowed to carry more than one pair of skis or more than one snowboard in one case. The number of pairs of skis and snowboards should not exceed the number of passengers in the group. In this case, it is allowed to sum up the free carriage of skis, snowboards and

additional equipment, based on the calculation that the total weight of free baggage allowance does not exceed 20 kg per person, but not more than 32 kg.

In one case, each piece of baggage with ski and additional equipment must comply with the requirements of the baggage transportation rules for airline flights. A piece of baggage over 32 kg is considered oversized and is paid based on the actual weight, regardless of the total amount luggage

Baggage in excess of the established allowance for main baggage, alpine skis, snowboards and additional equipment is paid at the current rates

for excess baggage.

General provisions and prohibitions

Hand luggage at Yamal Airlines- these are things that are not registered and are taken with you by the passenger on board the airliner. This category of cargo is included in the current free baggage transportation norm. To protect the life and health of passengers, as well as crew members, Yamal Airlines has introduced some restrictions regarding certain items and substances that are prohibited from being transported. This category includes a whole group of things, including weapons, dangerous substances (poisonous, poisonous, corrosive, caustic and toxic), flammable liquids, gases (liquefied and compressed) and much more.

It is also prohibited to transport fish or meat products. These food items may only be transported in a frozen state and if checked in as regular baggage.

If the liquid is purchased from a duty-free shop directly on the aircraft or at the airport, the container must be well packed and the bag sealed. Based on the external designation of the package, an airline employee should understand that the purchase was made at a duty-free point.

Permissible weight of hand luggage at Yamal Airlines

Yamal Airlines, like other carriers, has its own rules regarding the weight of hand luggage. This parameter is different for economy and business class passengers:

  • In the first case (economy class) - 5 kg. In this case, the dimensions of luggage should not exceed 0.55 * 0.4 * 0.2 meters.
  • In the second case (business class) - 10 kg. Despite the increase in the total weight of hand luggage, the size requirements remain unchanged.
