Red bus with a city tour. Double decker bus - the best tourist transport

At the end of July, a second excursion route on double-decker buses was launched in Moscow, which runs through the western part of the center of Moscow. The line runs along Novy Arbat, Shevchenko embankment, along Borodinsky Bridge, Smolenskaya and Mokhovaya streets, along Ilyinka and past Vasilyevsky Spusk.

We were able to take part in the first voyage of the new route of the red double decker, as well as take a river trip on an excursion boat.

Buses depart from Bolotnaya embankment; The stop is located at the Luzhkov Bridge, next to the Repin monument.

Double deckers and motor ships operate on the Hop On Hop Off principle, when a tourist can get off for sightseeing at any stop along the tour, and then return and continue the tour on the next bus or water bus.

The fare is 600 rubles for adults, 500 rubles for children over 5 years old, students and pensioners. A free ticket is provided for children under 5 years old. The pass is valid for 24 hours. The same conditions apply for excursion trips by boat.

I will add that you can also purchase a combined ticket, which gives you the right to ride buses and ships an unlimited number of times within 48 hours and save a little on each service. The cost of such a ticket is one thousand rubles; it is valid for 24 hours from the moment you first board the bus and for 24 hours from the moment you enter the deck of the excursion ship.

When traveling on a double decker, it is better to sit on the second floor not only because of the panoramic views and refreshing summer wind, but also because of the opportunity to avoid the crowd. On the second route, which is 17 kilometers long, 32 stops are planned, at almost every one of which tourists will get off and on.

Thus, for those who want to travel a full circle without getting off the bus, the second floor guarantees freedom from the hustle and bustle. The trip will take about one and a half hours, depending on the traffic situation.

The intervals between buses at each stop range from half an hour to 40 minutes. The summer schedule of double-deckers, from April to November, is from 10:00 to 18:00 (excursion “Golden-domed Moscow”) and from 19:00 to 21:30 (excursion “Evening Moscow”) on weekdays, as well as from 10:00 to 19:00 and from 19:00 to 22:30 on weekends, respectively.

Water buses run a little less frequently - every hour from 11:00 to midnight, but after 22:00 flights operate according to actual weather conditions.

Buses and ships are equipped with an audio system for sounding tours in eight languages: Russian, English, German, Spanish, French, Chinese, Italian and Arabic.

Headphones are provided free of charge, but their quality does not allow you to enjoy the sound. Mine, for example, fell apart after half an hour, so I had to use my own headphones. In addition, while driving, due to the roar of the engines, the guide’s words are sometimes difficult to understand, so you have to listen to the tour at full volume.

There is one more drawback: as it turned out, not all slots work properly. For example, my headphone jack was not working, and I had to use a neighbor's jack.

One of the main advantages of a tour of Moscow on a double-decker bus is the opportunity to see the sights at eye level.

Stucco moldings, bay windows and other decorative elements, which pedestrians can only see by raising their heads high, are visible on the second floor of the bus almost at a distance of a couple of meters.

And the endless Moscow traffic jams are only an assistant in this.

The slower the bus moves, the greater the chance to see architectural details.

However, we must pay tribute to the capital’s roads at noon on a weekday, when we went on an excursion.

We only stood for about five minutes at traffic lights a couple of times. Once, however, we got stuck on Gogolevsky Boulevard, losing about ten minutes in traffic.

And if the loss of time does not seem to be such a significant drawback of a pleasant walk on a double decker, then the music playing in the headphones in between stories about the sights is clearly not for everyone.

Get ready for songs about Moscow performed by Oleg Gazmanov, Alexander Rosembaum, Vladimir Vysotsky and the Bravo group.

Despite some shortcomings of this kind of excursion, this is one of the most pleasant ways to look at Moscow without looking at the roofs of cars.

In one hour, a red excursion boat with the City Sightseeing brand logo makes its way around the Golden Island along the Vodootvodny Canal, stopping at Gorky Park.

There are a total of 33 seats on board.

The view from the open deck is much better, but in cold weather and rain you can hide in the covered part of the deck.

Unlike a bus excursion, during a river trip there are slightly fewer stories about the sights that the ship passes by and there is more music.

It is better to go sailing in clear and sunny weather.

Gray skies and rains, if they add romance, do so before the first goosebumps appear.

During cool weather, tourists are given blankets.

Excursion river buses run only in the warm season, from May to November.

We traveled by bus and boat around Moscow in a total of two and a half hours.

And, in my opinion, this is the best option for exploring the center of the capital in such a short time. You can have time to see all the key attractions, and for those who are not in Moscow for the first time, enjoy the views of the city from the second floor of the double decker and the deck of the ship.

Excursion tours on double deckers, popular around the world, are operated by the operator City Sightseeing. Buses of a corporate red color, with the names of cities on the body, run through more than a hundred cities of the planet.

In Moscow, the first line was launched in August last year, and by the end of 2013 the company will open another route in the Russian capital.

Natalia Staroverova

Moscow is majestic and incredibly beautiful; excursion routes can be very diverse, fascinating and truly exciting. A walk through the main attractions of the capital is the best way to get acquainted with the history and life of the city, and excursions on a red double-decker bus around Moscow will just satisfy the needs of tourists and help them spend their day in the most comfortable and most informative way.

Excursion program

If you are a guest of the capital or just a Muscovite who wants to fill in the gaps in memory about the history of your city and enjoy the landscapes and stunningly beautiful architectural structures, then buy a tour of Moscow by bus, a tour of Moscow by bus is a trip thanks to which every local and a visiting “metropolitan” tourist will be able to learn and discover something new, something that he may not even know about.

Sightseeing tours around the city can be either multi-day (two-day) or one-time (one day or 24 hours). As a rule, the route on the red bus covers a short circle, but such tours allow passengers to get off the bus at any place, and then board another bus plying along an identical route in the same way.

Excursions around Moscow on a double-decker bus from the City Sightseeing company come in only two types. The first type is red, on red bus No. 1, and the second is green, No. 2. These excursion tours have the same schedule, but their length and route are different.

In the first and second cases, i.e. in “red” and “green” - the trip starts from one place, namely from Bolotnaya Square, but in the first case there are 18 stops, and in the second - 30.

We bring to your attention the route and the main attractions at each stop, which passes first - the “red” bus with route number “1”:

  • Bolotnaya embankment (square). There are not many attractions here; the embankment is more famous for its historical events, such as the punishment of Emelyan Pugachev and other public executions. In the 18th century, there were a large number of monastic and princely gardens and vegetable gardens on the square, festivals were held and trade was conducted. But now it is a beautiful, landscaped park area, with a lot of benches, flower beds, monuments - I.E. Repin, the sculptural composition “Children – Victims of the Vices of Adults”, Luzhkov Bridge and its iron “Trees of Love” and just playgrounds where you can go for a walk with your family.
  • House on the embankment (Udarnik cinema). Made in the constructivist style, the cinema building has a rich history and is the first cinema in Moscow to show sound films.
  • Bolshoy Kamenny Bridge over the Moscow River. This bridge, no longer made of stone, is one of the main places where tourists come to enjoy the picturesque panorama that opens onto the walls of the Kremlin, the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, the Archangel Cathedral, the Government House and other iconic sights of the capital.
  • State Museum of Fine Arts named after A.S. Pushkin. Well, there’s not much need to talk about this place. The Pushkin Museum was founded back in 1898, although it was called the Museum of Fine Arts and named after Alexander III, but even since then the museum is not just a university scientific center, it is a place where the most incredible and authentic works of art of ancient and modern times are collected.
  • Moscow metro station "Kropotkinskaya". In addition to the marble-granite metro station itself, which was awarded the Grand Prix at the exhibition in Paris and Brussels, on the surface there are such famous attractions as the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, the Patriarchal Bridge, the Library named after. Lenin, a monument to Alexander II, as well as a huge number of museums and galleries.
  • Sivtsev Vrazhek Lane. The lane is located between Gogolevsky Boulevard and lane. Money, on the lane itself. Sivtsev Vrazhek is something to see. There are a huge number of residential buildings here, which previously housed very famous actors, writers, senior military leaders, doctors and many other public figures of the Soviet period.
  • Arbat Gate Square (Arbatskaya Square). The square begins to come to life and fill with new colors in the evening and gathers a huge number of people on its territory. Here is the ground lobby of the Arbatskaya metro station, the Arbat Gate Square, the Mansion of the Merchant Morozov, the Prague restaurant, the Wall of Peace, the monument to N.V. Gogol, if you walk through these places, the evening excursion promises to be very interesting.
  • Mokhovaya Street (Alexandrovsky Garden). Driving along Makhovaya Street you can see such sights as the Russian State Library, the monument to F.M. Dostoevsky, if you go to a parallel street (Manezhnaya), you can get to the Alexander Garden itself and to the northwestern wall of the Kremlin.
  • Street and metro station "Okhotny Ryad". Driving past Manezhnaya Square, the Geological Museum, you can see the famous “Okhotny Ryad” street, on which the Building of the Council of Labor and Defense, the Moscow Hotel, the lobby of the metro station in the Okhotny Ryad building and the House of Unions are located.
  • theatre square. Immediately after Okhotny Ryad, Teatralnaya Square begins, on which the Bolshoi, Molodezhny and Maly theaters are located, the combined lobby of the Moscow subway stations “Teatralnaya” and “Okhotny Ryad”, the Metropol Hotel, as well as monuments to Vysotsky, Ostrovsky and Marx.
  • Lubyanka metro station (Lubyanskaya Sq.). When the sightseeing tour of Moscow reaches this square, it is better to get off the bus and walk around the square on foot, observing the entire architectural ensemble. On the square there is the Building of the FSB of the Russian Federation, the Biblio-Globus Trade House, the KGB Computer Center, the Solovetsky Stone Square and Monument, the Children's World Department Store, a museum and many other interesting structures that require only multi-day excursions.
  • Upper shopping arcade, GUM. The incredibly large shopping complex, located and facing the main square of the country, is still a “universal store” where you can not only shop, but also drink coffee in a cozy cafe and watch people passing by.
  • Red Square. The most popular and sought-after trip to the main square of Moscow is the New Year's excursion. During this fabulous period, the square itself is transformed, a huge New Year tree and an ice skating rink appear on it, which first appeared on the square back in 2006. Of course, on other days and seasons there are places to go and things to see on the square. This is St. Basil's Cathedral, a museum, a well-known mausoleum, Execution Place, Upper and Middle shopping arcades, etc. Tourists are allowed to take selfies and shoot videos in the square and indoors.
  • Big Moskvoretsky Bridge. After the square, on a red excursion bus you will travel across the Bolshoy Moskvoretsky Bridge, which stretches across the Moscow River, and then you will get to Balchug Street.
  • Balchug Street. Further excursions on a double-decker bus around Moscow almost end; on this street you can take a look at the Balguch Kempinski Hotel and the Balguch Plaza business center.
  • Confectionery factory "Red October". Next, the trip on the official City Sightseeing bus continues to the Red October factory, founded back in 1851 and producing such famous candies as Alyonka, Mishka Kosolapy, Kara-Kum, Golden Key, etc.
  • Cinema "Udarnik". This “red” tour begins to finally come full circle, returning to the famous cinema.
  • Balchug Street. Then the tour again leads to Balchug Street, and from there to Bolotnaya Square, where the bus picks up new passengers.

“Green” route No. 2 also passes half of the listed attractions, and also includes such famous places as Old Arbat, Novospassky, Patriarchal, Bolshoi Ustinsky and Borodinsky Bridge, Novospassky Monastery, Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul and others.

How to book a tour

The excursion can be booked online, which makes a “Moscow” route through the sights. To do this, you need to go to the official website or the website of City Sightseeing partners and make a purchase.

You can book both two-day and one-day excursions and pay for the ticket using the PayPal payment system.

City Sightseeing Day Bus Tour

One-day excursions or 2-day excursions on a red double decker are very convenient. At any time of the day, namely starting from 10:00 am, you can board the red double decker anywhere along the route.

You won’t need to look for buses at the station, as they stop at the “red” signs that are located throughout the city. The main and main stop for both routes is Bolotnaya Square near the monument.

Red bus schedule

The double-decker tour bus has two schedules:

  • From May to October: the first flight departs at 10 am and the last flight at 17:15. On weekends, the last “first” route leaves from the square at 18:30, and the “second” green one half an hour earlier, i.e. at 18:00.
  • From November to April: the first flight on weekdays departs at 10:00, the last “red” and “green” departures at 17:00 and 16:00, respectively, on weekends and holidays at 18:00 and 17:00.

Sometimes, due to the condition of the roads, possible repair work, due to possible Moscow traffic jams and other unforeseen circumstances, the schedule and the route itself along which the double decker runs may change without prior notification to passengers.

The duration of the first red bus plying route No. 1 lasts on average 1 hour, while the double-decker stops at the most notable attractions for 10 minutes; throughout the route you can listen to an audio guide that talks about historical incidents and the attractions themselves at 8 languages of the world.

The length of route No. 1 takes about 10 km, but it takes an hour, so that all tourists can take full and high-quality photographs from the second floor of the bus. Route No. 2 is twice as long as the first (20 km), therefore, more time will be spent on the trip, namely 1.5-2 hours, depending on the condition of the roads and congestion.

Excursion red double-deckers run daily, seven days a week, multi-day excursions (more than 2 days) or excursions from Moscow are not provided, since the bus makes its flight along a route within the Moscow Ring Road and in one hour.

But those who purchased a ticket on the spot or via the Internet are given the opportunity to use the bus services for one or two days, getting on and off at any time of the day until 18:00, the so-called “hop-on hop-off”.

Prices for sightseeing tours in Moscow

In general, the price of a ticket for a red excursion double-decker in Moscow depends on several factors:

  1. Ticket prices differ for residents and international travelers. For the latter, it is a little more expensive than for Muscovites or people living in other regions of Russia.
  2. The ticket price depends on the number of days, there are two options: either 1 day, i.e. 24 hours or two days.
  3. The ticket price differs depending on what category of passengers you belong to. For adult residents, the cost of 1 day excursion is 1,000 rubles per person, for pensioners and students - 800 rubles, for children (from 0 to 6 years), disabled people of group 1 and WWII veterans - free. For children over 6 years old and disabled people of groups 2 and 3 – 600 rubles.

It is also possible to purchase a small discount by choosing a family rate, if the family consists of two adults and one child - 2,400 rubles for everyone, two adults + two children - 2,800, two + three - 3,200 rubles.

On average in Moscow, ordering a bus for an excursion starts from 700 rubles per hour. Therefore, if you purchase a hop-on-hop-off ticket, you save at least 10 times on the cost of the excursion.

Having spent only 1000 rubles, you have the opportunity to take a ride around Moscow’s attractions throughout the day and at any time convenient for you.

What doesn't happen in life, now I know how it goes excursions around Moscow on a double-decker bus with audio guides :). Why not, every decent European city has them. They are called “hop-on - hop-off”, that is, “enter-exit”. You buy a ticket for 1 or 2 days and you can ride, getting off and returning to the bus at every stop.

Tour of Moscow on a double-decker bus

So in Moscow I had a chance to ride the hop-on-hop-off. Actually, I intended to go to the Tretyakov Gallery, but the queue at the entrance did not inspire me. It’s not cool to stand on the street in such chilly weather, I went straight ahead, that is, forward. And on Bolotnaya Square I saw a red double-decker bus approaching, here they have the beginning and end of the ring route, right opposite the Luzhkov Bridge.

So, a bus tour of Moscow on a red double-decker bus. Photo again from a smartphone, sorry :).

Tickets and benefits

The ticket price, of course, is quite steep for a banal excursion (especially with a recording of an audio guide, which you can’t ask clarifying questions or listen to again if you’re distracted). But that’s why it’s Moscow. How much does a two-day city tour cost?

Because they don’t sell tickets for one day, only for two:

  • 1200 rub. for adults,
  • 1000 rub. for pensioners and students,
  • 800 for children under 13 years of age and disabled people of groups 2-3.
  • Family tickets are cheaper (from 3,000 rubles for three).
  • Free - only on weekdays! - for children under 6 years old, disabled people of group 1, WWII veterans and pensioners over 75 years old, journalists and hotel concierges.

For foreigners, all tickets cost 300 rubles. expensive.

You can view all current prices (which will most likely increase in June due to the 2018 FIFA World Cup) and buy tickets online in advance

I do not fall under any of the preferential categories. Well, why not feel like a tourist, especially in this weather and on a warm bus. Maybe I’ll find out something interesting about familiar places. I paid, received a map of Moscow and headphones, and climbed to the second floor.

However, upon closer examination of the issued map with routes, it turned out that 200 rubles. You could still save money if you have a ticket from a Moscow museum (I just had a couple of tickets lying around in my bag) or 30% when presenting a receipt from the Detsky Mir chain of stores.

But they don’t warn you about this in advance; the card is issued after paying for the ticket. The steward refused to count the fee. They say, whoever knows, takes advantage of discounts. I wonder if anyone goes on these excursions again?

Route they have two, duration without traffic jams:

  • red No. 1 around the Kremlin - 1 hour, 10 km, 18 stops (Bolotnaya Square - Udarnik Cinema - Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts - Kropotkinskaya Metro Station - Sivtsev Vrazhek Lane - Arbat Square - Alexander Garden - Okhotny Ryad - Theater Square - Lubyanskaya Square - GUM - Red Square - Big Moskvoretsky Bridge - Factory "Red October" - Sofia Embankment (Udarnik Cinema) - Sofia Embankment (Balchug Street),
  • green No. 2- via Vorobyovy Gory and Kievsky Station - 2 hours, 20 km, 25 stops (Bolotnaya Square - "Udarnik Cinema" - Pushkinsky Bridge (on request) - Observation deck on Vorobyovy Gory - "Europe Square" - "Kievsky Station" - Embankment Taras Shevchenko - Hotel "Ukraine" - Pier of the Radisson flotilla - Borodinsky Bridge - Novinsky Boulevard - Cinema "October" - Moscow House of Books - Arbat Square - Patriarchal Bridge - Moskvoretsky Bridge - Zaryadye - Kotelnicheskaya Embankment).

Routes sometimes change; during traffic jams, detours are possible.

With a purchased ticket, you can ride along both routes an unlimited number of times, get off at stops for sightseeing, shopping or other needs, and then get back on the bus (the interval on the red route is 15-20 minutes, on the green route - 30-40 minutes. )

Tourist bus schedule

Start:

Buses of short and long routes start moving at 10 am from Bolotnaya Square all year round, seven days a week. The interval of the short route is 15 minutes, the long route is 30.

Ending:

In summer, from May to October, the last flight of both routes departs at 18-00.

in winter, from November to April:

On weekdays: short red route No. 1 – at 17:00, long green route No. 2 - 16:40 .

On weekends and holidays: red route No. 1 and green route No. 2 - 17:20 .

Both routes to Bolotnaya:

Excursion

The second floor of the bus is half heated, the rear part is for the warm season, with an opening top:

It’s really more interesting to look at from the second floor; you can see the stucco molding on the walls of the houses.

The tour is conducted in eight languages, you can switch in your headphones: to Russian, English, German, Spanish, French, Chinese, Italian or Arabic.

The audio guide, of course, is geared towards tourists of the first wave; don’t expect any special details about the buildings from it, although the story is slightly flavored with rumors and jokes. Well, for foreigners there are a lot of explanations like this: Muscovites nicknamed the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff “the Russian Pentagon”, and New Arbat before the casino ban was “Moscow Las Vegas”.

pros Hop-on-hop-off sightseeing bus tour:

  • you can ride for two days on one ticket, get off at interesting stops and take the next bus,
  • in the cold season you can warm up, if you are not in a hurry, you can do 2-3 laps :),
  • In summer you can buy a bus + ship ticket.

Bus audio guides, unlike live guides, of course, have their own minuses:

  • descriptions of the objects you pass include a steward. Accordingly, you will not be able to clarify or ask again. And you won’t even be able to rewind and listen again (if you suddenly get distracted), as in individual museum audio guides.
  • Since traffic jams are not uncommon in Moscow, especially on weekdays, the pauses that arise are sometimes filled with general facts about the city, but their frequency also depends on the mood of the steward.

In general, the impression from excursions on Moscow double-decker buses is this: for those arriving for the first time, the price for two days of excursions is quite reasonable, for foreign tourists, with the current exchange rate, it’s generally a freebie.

Just don’t forget to take receipts from Children’s World or tickets from museums with you before your trip :).

Write your reviews about the “hop-on - hop-off” excursions, it’s interesting to compare.

However, for that kind of money you can ride the metro in two days, and still have some left over for museums.

Or take a tour with a live guide, who can ask questions:

And in the center in good weather it is better to walk on foot, but it’s still quite close.

By the way, there is also a free walking tour of Red Square, on Tuesdays from 14 to 15:

There is also a cool excursion option even for Muscovites, a walk along the roofs of Moscow is very cool, breathtaking views and you can take so many photos:
