Tuk tuk traffic in Pattaya on the map. Public transport in pattaya

Pattaya is quite a big city, you won’t get around much on foot, and the heat won’t let you down. Or after a successful one, it’s not very pleasant to drag a mountain of souvenirs in your hands. But even if you take a walk, you will get tired of walking from Jomtien to the center.

The question arises, what do they drive in Pattaya? They go by songthaew, they are also tuk tuks. How do they drive and how much do tuk-tuks cost and where to look for them? Who are motorcycle taxis and how to ride them?

We answer questions about transport in Pattaya.

Tuk tuk in Pattaya is the most convenient and cheapest public transport. The traffic interval is very short, sometimes they drive one after another, trying to snatch a client from a colleague. You’ve already seen what a tuk tuk looks like in the photo, now let’s try to drive it.

All you need to know is which way you want to go. On no tuk tuk you will see an inscription indicating which route it is traveling on. And you will go the experimental way. Stand at the edge of the road in the direction you need to go. We see a knock knock, we raise our hand and stop it. We sit down and go. All.

Sometimes they themselves will honk at you, as if inviting you to go on a trip.

But this is ideal. In fact, where am I going, how much should I pay, and will I get there... And other questions are in your head. Let's sort it out.

Under no circumstances should you ask the driver

- “Will I get there?”

You’ll finish it, but for a completely different amount!

A tuk tuk in Pattaya costs 10-20 baht. 10 baht if you drove close, and 20 baht if you drove the entire route or rode a tuk tuk that goes along Sukhumvit, it costs 20 baht by default

If you ask, then the tuk tuker switches its route to taxi mode and everyone goes for 10 baht, and you, at best, for 200. But yes, it will take you to where you need to go.

How can you travel for 10 baht? You need to have these 10 baht. In the sense, it is desirable to have equal money. From 20 they will squeeze your change, don’t go to grandma’s.

As it was written at the beginning, we stopped, sat down and drove away, silently. We drive as long as the tuk tuk goes in the direction you want. As soon as it turns and no longer goes where you want, press the bell button (there are several of them in the cabin, find them with your eyes immediately when boarding), the knock tuk stops, you get out, give the driver 10 baht through the window, go again to the side where you want and wait for the tuk tuk that is going in the direction you want.

If you have seen a map of Pattaya, then you understand that almost everything there is in a straight line and the main streets are parallel to each other, it is difficult to get lost.

Don't get into an empty tuk tuk. If you get in, don’t answer the driver’s question like “Where are we going?” This way, there is less chance that a cunning driver will want to give you a taxi ride.

Map of routes and parking places for tuk tuks (songthaew) Pattaya

If you need somewhere urgently or want to get to a place where the tuk tuk route does not go, you can use it as a taxi, having agreed in advance with the driver on a fare of 150-200 baht.

Motorcycle taxi in Pattaya

At many intersections, and not only at them, you can find another type of transport in Pattaya, this is a motorcycle taxi.

They are less comfortable, of course, but if during rush hour you need to get somewhere quickly, avoiding traffic jams, then this type of transport is indispensable in Pattaya.

You can see what momto taxis look like in the photo. The driver must wear a vest with the inscription which “gang” he belongs to. For example, motorcycle taxi drivers on Walking Street have Walking street Pattaya written on their backs. Vests of different colors, not necessarily red, there are also green ones. Each place has its own color.

Agreement on the destination and the cost of a motorcycle taxi, just like with a regular taxi, agree on the amount and go. Don't forget to wear a helmet! The motorcycle taxi driver should give it to you. The price is from 50 to 100 baht, I haven’t seen anything more expensive yet, but I haven’t traveled far either. At night it may be more expensive. They simply occupy the exits from nightclubs before closing, so you won’t be left without transport to the hotel at any time of the day.

How to get to the hotel in Pattaya at night

I can say with full responsibility that in terms of transport in Pattaya, day and night are no different, except for prices, and even then not always. At 2 am in central Pattaya you will travel by tuk tuk for the same 10 baht. A motorcycle taxi may inflate the price, but you have the right to bargain, the main thing is not to miss the moment when you and your price cease to be interesting for a motorcycle taxi driver.

I answer questions about transport.

Happy travels!

More about Thailand:

Nearly 130,000 motorcycle taxis have been registered since the reorganization of Bangkok's public transport by the Land Transport Department and the National Council for Peace and Order began.

Maj. Gen. Apirat Kongsompong, commander of the 1st Division, said Thursday that the motorcyclists had spent a full day registering with the department and would soon receive their free orange vests.

He said the department has come up with a new vest design for registered drivers. The jackets will have a pocket that will contain department-issued identification.

"I insist that new jackets should be issued free of charge. Motorcycle taxi drivers only pay 1,000 baht for registration," Major General Apirat said. I don't think those who receive the new vests will sell them because registration for motorcycle taxi services is free.

Major General Apirat also said that he is happy with motorcycle taxi drivers now because the drivers are registered and follow traffic rules, and there is also a common base of official workers.

An eternal problem, I agree. We are going to an unfamiliar Thailand and the devil knows what is there and how much. You need to take enough money to Thailand to make it enough. Joke.

I was prompted to write this article by researching one site, which indicated that a night in a Bangkok hotel will cost $109.27 US, for traveling three kilometers by taxi you will pay $3.13 US, and dinner in a restaurant will cost $69.75 US , cocktails for $19 US.

I thought, maybe I eat and live in another Thailand? But for $19 I can binge drink! It’s scary to read about food in general. And I decided to calculate how much money I actually need to take to Thailand...

Oh, that sweet word - tip, it’s nice in Thailand too. Everyone wants to get more money for their work and the Thais are no exception. But how much should you tip in Thailand so as not to offend someone and not ruin yourself? Let's start with the fact that tips are given for what is deserved. For example, you won’t be asked for a tip from me if the service was not prompt or with a dissatisfied face. At a minimum, everything should be standard, but then the tip amount is not high. Okay, where to tip and how much....

"Knock Knock" translated from Thai means "cheap" . In fact, Russian tourists got everything mixed up. What they call a tuk-tuk is a songthaew (minibus). Pickup truck with two rows of benches. It is really very inexpensive - 10-20 baht per person. They operate as public transport and as private taxis.

In the general understanding, tuk-tuks are private motorcycle and bicycle carriages for 2-4 people. The latter operate exclusively as taxis and are not cheap. In our article we will talk about tuk-tuks - songthaews. They are the ones who travel on fixed routes in Pattaya.

Tuk-tuk routes in Pattaya on the map

Tuk-tuks do not go everywhere in Pattaya. The city is large, but pickup trucks operate only in the center - where tourists go, where the main, and. This is a private vehicle and has its own traffic rules.

But if you saw a songthaew on other streets than those we will talk about below, then this is not a minibus, but a taxi. However, first things first.

Their routes in Pattaya can be found on maps found in hotels or supermarkets. Sometimes they are even given away for free.

It starts at the intersection of this street with Sukhumvit Rd, and ends at the intersection with Thappraya Rd. Machines run mainly while they are working. You won't see them on a weekday. Directions – 10 baht.

If you see an empty car, then it can work as a taxi. The fee increases 10 times. This is a good option for a large company to get to the right place. It is customary to pay in a tuk-tuk after the end of the trip.

Have a nice trip!

Tukkom is one of the most popular stores among Russians in Pattaya. After all, it doesn’t matter whether you live in Thailand or came here to relax for a couple of weeks, sooner or later the question will arise: where can you buy a laptop, camera, hair dryer, phone charger, tablet, a new phone and a case for it? This list can be continued indefinitely, since in the modern world man and technology are constant friends. And if your plans do not include a trip to Bangkok, where the selection of goods is simply huge, there will be one answer to all these questions - go to the Tukkom shopping center.

Here under one roof there is a fairly large assortment of various equipment, components and accessories for it. You will also find a small selection of clothing and a food court where you can grab a bite to eat between the floors. The food court will offer you familiar Thai dishes and fruit shakes. You can buy a cup of coffee at Starbucks on the 1st floor; there is also a cafe with Japanese cuisine. The fast food counter is located on the second floor.

What is the difference between Tukk and Central Festival?

In general, Tukkom does not look as elegant and festive as Central Festival, where equipment is also presented. The main differences between the assortment of these two centers: in Tukkom you can find not only “white” products, but also “gray” ones at a much lower price; there is a larger selection of accessories; technology is the main category of goods presented in Tukkom; Central Festival is more suitable for family shopping and relaxation; here you will find branded stores of the most famous manufacturers (Apple, Canon, Nikon, Sony, JIB, etc.); Naturally, all products will have an official guarantee; product prices may be higher.

There is an opinion that everything in Tukkom is very cheap. This is not entirely true. To buy something inexpensively here, you need, at a minimum, to have a good understanding of the prices for similar models in Russia, distinguish a fake from the original, and check everything thoroughly before purchasing, since some of the goods (especially phones, tablets, set-top boxes, etc.) must be returned or exchange will not work. The difference in prices for goods will be especially small for residents of Moscow, where there is a huge selection. For residents of the regions, shopping in Tukkom will be somewhat more profitable.

In general, you can buy laptops, cameras, lenses, and some models of phones and tablets here cheaper than at home.

What can you buy at Tukkom?

  • 0 floor - food court, clothing, grocery store.
  • 1st floor - hair dryers, curling irons, clothes, accessories, hair bands, souvenirs, cosmetics, books and other small items.
  • 2nd floor - phones, tablets, a large selection of cases, chargers and accessories. Here you can buy the latest models of Apple equipment (I-phone, I-pad, etc.) and other brands (Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Nokia).

Of course, most tourists come here to buy themselves a brand new phone at competitive prices. In the video you can see constantly flashing legs and backs of potential buyers who are looking at the shop windows with interest.

Before purchasing goods in Tukkom, remember!

  1. The warranty for some products will be valid exclusively in Thailand, check the conditions with the seller;
  2. fakes are often sold under the guise of originals;
  3. here you can bargain;
  4. equipment often comes with accessories as a gift, ask the sellers about them;
  5. if necessary, fill out documents for a VAT-refund tax refund, to do this, take your passport with you;
  6. Money can be cashed out at an ATM, which is located next to the shopping center building.

How to get there

Tukkom is located on Pattaya Tai Street. You can get there by songthaew (tuk-tuk). To do this, you need to drive along Pattaya 2nd road (Patthaya Sai 2) to the intersection with the southern street (Pattaya Tai), which is located near Walking street. Then walk up Pattaya Tai past the school, market and Wat Chai Mongkol temple. A little further, opposite the temple, you will see a shopping center building with a large Tukcom sign.

You can get around the resort city of Pattaya in various ways: on foot, by taxi, by taxi-motorbike, by rented car or motorbike... The cheapest (with the exception of walking - but you can’t get to the other end of the city on foot) is to travel by local public transport - tuk tuk in Pattaya.

Tuk tuks in Pattaya (more correctly called songthaews) are pickup trucks converted for passenger transportation. Two benches are placed along the sides of the body, and a roof is mounted above the body. You can ride while sitting on the benches, and if there is not enough space, you can stand on the step and lean on the handrails. If the seat next to the driver is free, then you can sit in the cab with him.

on the tuk tuk bandwagon

How to get around on tuk tuks?

There are no classic stops on the routes (except for the final ones); you can board a tuk-tuk anywhere by stopping it with a raised hand. In addition, tuk tuks themselves slow down when they see a potential passenger and sound the horn. Having reached the desired point on the route (or seeing that the tuk-tuk has turned in the wrong direction), you should press the button located under the roof (in the middle or on the sides): the tuk-tuk will stop.

Payment is made upon disembarkation to the driver, so prepare the money in advance so as not to delay other passengers. And preferably without change.

What you shouldn't do when traveling by tuk tuk is ask the driver where he is going and how much it will cost to get to your desired location. Then it turns into a taxi, transporting you and other passengers without transfers, but the payment will not be 10-20 baht per person, but 100 or more per car. However, for large companies it may not be much more expensive, especially when transfers are necessary.

tuk tuk in Pattaya, or songthaew

Tuk tuk routes in Pattaya

There are two types of tuk tuks in Pattaya: blue songthaews drive around Pattaya and Jomtien, and white ones drive along the Sukhumvit highway (the longest street in the world). Thus, the first tuk tuk route in Pattaya is along Sukhumvit. The fare costs 20 baht.

Another type of route is along the streets perpendicular to Sukhumvit: North Pattaya Road, Central Pattaya Road, South Pattaya Road and Thepprasit Road. Tuk-tuks run back and forth along these streets (along North, Central and South - between Sukhumvit and Second Street (Second road), along Teprasit - between Sukhumvit and Tappraya road), the fare costs 10 baht, however, if a tuk tuk turned off and drove on, then you will have to pay 20 baht - for two routes.

This group of routes also includes the route along Naklua road from the fountain with dolphins to Naklua beach - tuk tuks run back and forth between the ends, the fare costs 10 baht.

fountain "Dolphins" at the intersection of Second, Beach, Northern streets and Naklya

One of the most popular routes among our tourists is the route from Jomtien Beach to the city. In general, the end point of this route is the intersection of South and Second streets (near the school), but in the vast majority of cases tuk-tuks travel further along Second Street. Therefore, although the cost of this route, like the others, is 10 baht, but when it goes further, the cost consists of two sections and is 20 baht. To return towards Jomtien (and Pratamnak), you need to take a tuk tuk from the terminal at the intersection of Second and South streets near the school sports ground.

From Jomtien, tuk tuks connect to the circular route. They move along Second Street from the intersection with South to the large intersection where the fountain with dolphins is located. Further along Beach Street they move in the opposite direction. Traffic on Second and Beach streets is one-way. Having reached Walking street along Plyazhnaya, the tuk tuks rise from the beach along South Street and either continue moving in a circle along Second Street, or head towards Jomtien (then they line up behind passengers at the end near the school sports ground).

And finally, to easily imagine the movement of tuk tuks - tuk tuk route map in Pattaya. Such cards can be found on the streets of Pattaya (free). And I took it and corrected it a little in connection with the changes in the winter of 2014-2015. By the way, among the free maps of Pattaya, I like the Russo Turisto map more than the others.
