Services in the carriage: Russian Railways service class. Categories of carriages and classes of service on trains What does carriage 3d and 3e mean?

When purchasing a train ticket online, you may notice that each carriage belongs to a particular class. They are abbreviated as 2K, 2L, 1S, 3E, etc. The essence of the designation is to show the passenger the type of carriage (reserved seat, coupe, luxury, etc.) and an approximate list of services that should be provided in it.

The details depend on the carrier - each of them implies its own nuances by the class of the car. Despite the fact that 3E belongs to the reserved seat category, which is not the most comfortable type, such an addition as the presence of an air cooling device is an attractive bonus.

In the marking, the letter “P” means category, and the further designation indicates the level of service. Open compartment reserved seat consists of 4 shelves, located in one fenced compartment without a door, opposite which there are two more side shelves - upper and lower.

Difference from other reserved seat classes

Sometimes a fast train has its own individual style and name, which gives it the right to be called a branded one. This type of train is characterized by a more flexible schedule, an increased level of service and comfortable conditions. But in general, the characteristics of 3E are the same on all compositions.

Cars belonging to the reserved seat category include 54 seats and are always marked as class No. 3.

Class 3 is divided into the following:

  • 3E - air conditioning and dry closet;
  • - air conditioning, sometimes dry closet;
  • - it is possible to install a dry closet, there is air conditioning and transportation of animals is allowed;
  • - air conditioning and dry closet are missing.

The main difference between all types is the presence or absence of a dry closet and a cooling system.

According to the level of service, they are differentiated into the following types:

Accordingly, the letter “E” in the abbreviation shows the passenger that he will be traveling in an economy carriage.

What is included in the ticket price?

The ticket price includes the following options:

  1. payment for the operation of the railway;
  2. fee for use of space;
  3. payment for services provided.

The last point implies the cost of a set of bedding, a standard set of food products and personal hygiene items. In addition to other components, the price of a ticket also depends on the season: in the warm season it will be much more expensive than in the fall.

Pros and cons of the carriage

In addition to being in a generally accessible price range, a reserved seat type carriage is also very convenient for any trip. This determines its good reputation and demand among the majority of the population.

Positive aspects are the presence of air conditioning and a dry closet. Each compartment and side niches contain folding tables for eating and a separate shelf located under the ceiling for storing things. The places on the lower levels are equipped with special cells for storing things.

Negative factors include open space, which does not provide a sense of privacy: extraneous odors and noise accompany the passenger throughout the entire route.

Positive and negative aspects of accommodation in a 3E class carriage:

Place +
Bottom, not side Convenient location, shelf 177 cm long, safe storage of personal items under its own shelfThe passenger who purchased the upper seat in the compartment compartment has the right to store things under the lower bunk. If he gets off the train at night, it is necessary to interrupt his sleep, get up from the shelf and provide access to his things.
Top, not side Luggage can be conveniently placed on the third shelf. Due to the fact that there is no space under the shelf to store luggage, this means that your neighbors in the compartment compartment will not be distracted while you sleep.

Inconvenient access and there is a possibility of falling while sleeping. The length of the shelf is quite short - 167 cm.

Lower side Long bunk, good view from the window, great place to sit.It is not safe to store luggage.
Upper side Great review. Passengers passing by are not disturbed.If the neighbor on the bottom shelf has taken it apart for sleeping, there is no way to take a seat.

Despite the lack of complete isolation from other compartments, the pleasant price-quality ratio, as well as the presence of such options as a dry closet and an air cooling system, makes purchasing a 3E class ticket so attractive for rail travelers.

From December 13, 2015, Russian Railways changed the rules for transporting animals in carriages with seats and in reserved seat carriages.

Passengers will be able to transport only certain types of animals: cats, dogs, guinea pigs, rabbits, aquarium fish, birds, turtles and hamsters.

Procedure for transporting animals on long-distance trains

According to a Russian Railways representative, the innovation will improve the quality of passenger service.

Now the travel document will be stamped with permission to transport animals.

The trains will have one seat car and one reserved seat car, where animals will be transported. For example, the transportation of animals in seated carriages of categories 2B and 3G is permitted. According to the regulations, one animal can take up no more than 180 cm of space in a carriage. The pet must be in a basket, box or cage. You can transport your pet only if you have the appropriate veterinary documents.

Naturally, transportation of animals is paid. An exception to the rule are guide dogs - they can be near their owner in any type of carriage. The only condition is that the animal must be wearing a muzzle and collar.

Other passengers who also buy tickets in this carriage will be warned at the ticket office about the proximity to animals. If a person wants to travel without animals, there is no problem, he has the opportunity to purchase a travel document for any other carriage.

What other classes of cars exist?

Let's look further at what other classes of carriages there are and what the abbreviations 2B, 3ZH, 3E, 1S, etc. generally mean. The meaning of these designations is to show a person what type of carriage he will be traveling in (luxury, coupe, reserved seat) and what list of services he can expect for his money.

  • 2E are seats in the bistro car. By purchasing a ticket, you can order dishes from the menu for 2000 rubles.

All Sapsan carriages are equipped with air conditioning systems.
