And this is not the only mystery hovering around them. Today in Egypt there are about a hundred tombs found, but the search continues, and the number of new finds is constantly increasing.

The Cheops Pyramid was built about 4,500 years ago. Today in Egypt the start date for its construction has been set and officially celebrated. It is the twenty-third of August 2470 BC.

However, there are other assumptions. For example, the Arab historian Ibrahim Wassouf Shah is confident that all the structures in the Giza Valley were erected by an ancient ruler named Saurid. Another chronicler, Zeid Bahi, writes about the existence of a certain rock inscription, which says that the Cheops pyramid was built about seventy-three thousand years ago.

There is a hypothesis that in the places where the pyramids were built, the Egyptians came into some contact with extraterrestrial civilizations. Inside each of them there are numerous tunnels and peculiar labyrinths scattered along and across their structures.

Some lead to empty spaces, and all the rest lead to dead ends. At first it was believed that all this was done aimlessly, by chance, but gradually researchers discovered that if you draw a plan of the paths and compartments made inside the Cheops pyramid, it will be precisely oriented according to the sky map.

At the same time, there is another surprising fact: one of the canals is located vertically along the center line of the tomb. According to scientists, this is the direct flow of energy with which it was possible to communicate with aliens from other planets. This hypothesis, as well as the fact that the construction of these amazing monuments in Egypt was carried out in order to later be used as power plants, is supported by the fact that they were built with perfect mathematical accuracy.

Description

The pyramid stands near the city of Giza. Today the area is a suburb of Cairo. Initially, the height of the structure was just over one hundred and forty-six meters. However, over time, seven meters and eighty centimeters of this majestic structure were erased by winds and rains.

The perimeter is nine hundred and twenty-two meters, and the base area is comparable to ten football fields. Scientists were able to calculate the total weight of the Cheops pyramid: five million tons.

It consists of more than two million huge stone blocks of granite, limestone and basalt. Each of them weighs about two and a half tons. There are two hundred and ten rows of them in the pyramid.

The entrance is on the north side. It is formed by stone slabs laid in the shape of an arch.

Today you can get inside not through the entrance, which is sealed with a granite plug, but through a break. It was made in 820 by Caliph Jafar al-Mamun, who was eager to find the treasures of the pharaoh there, but found only a thick layer of dust.

About the creator

This tomb of the pharaoh is also known as Khufu. It is the largest among its analogues. Its architect is considered to be Hemiun, the vizier and nephew of Cheops himself. He was even given the title of “Manager of all the buildings of the pharaoh.” Apparently, it is no coincidence that for more than three millennia the tallest building on planet Earth is the creation of his hands - the Cheops pyramid. About one hundred thousand people were simultaneously involved in construction. Another interesting fact indicates that not only in the parameters, but also in the individual structures of this most famous tomb of the ancient pharaohs, numerous mathematical quantities and relationships are embedded, including the number “pi”. This huge structure amazes with its grandeur and emanates antiquity. According to scientists, the total weight of the pyramid is 6.25 million tons. Previously, its surface was perfectly smooth. Now, unfortunately, there is no trace of this smoothness.

There is one entrance leading inside the Cheops pyramid, located at a height of 15.5 meters above the ground. It contains tombs in which the pharaohs were buried. These so-called burial chambers are made of durable granite and are located at a depth of 28 meters.

The pyramid consists of ascending and descending passages that were not used in any other similar structure. One of the features is a large descent leading to the tomb of the pharaoh.

The Pyramid of Cheops is located directly in the place that points to all four cardinal directions. It is the only one of all ancient structures that has such precision.

How the ancient Egyptians were able to build this Pyramid and when, probably no one can say with exact data. But in Egypt, the official date when construction began is August 23, 2480 BC.

According to the research of scientists, it is known that workers cut down huge blocks in quarries on the banks of the Nile. They went on boats to the other side and dragged the block with felt along the road to the construction site itself.

Then came the turn of hard and very dangerous work. The blocks were placed next to each other with extraordinary precision using ropes and levers.

Secrets of the Pyramid of Cheops

For almost 3,500 years, no one disturbed the peace of the Cheops Pyramid. It was covered with legends about the punishment of anyone who entered the chambers of the pharaoh.

However, there was such a daredevil caliph Abdullah al-Mamun, he built a tunnel inside the pyramid in order to profit. But imagine his surprise when he found absolutely no treasures. Indeed, this is one of the many secrets of this majestic structure.

No one knows whether Pharaoh Cheops was really buried in it or whether his tomb was plundered by the ancient Egyptians. Scientists emphasize that the pharaoh's chamber does not have decorations, which were customary at that time to decorate tombs. The sarcophagus has no lid and is not completely hewn. After Abdullah al-Mamun's unsuccessful attempt, he became furious and ordered the pyramids to be dismantled. But naturally I did not achieve this goal. And the robbers lost all interest in her and her non-existent treasures.

In 1168, the Arabs burned down part of Cairo and when the Egyptians began to rebuild their homes, they removed the white slabs from the pyramid.

And from that pyramid, which shone like a precious stone, only the stepped body remained. This is how it appears today, before enthusiastic tourists.

The Cheops Pyramid has been constantly explored since the time of Napoleon. And some researchers are more inclined to believe the theory that the pyramid was built by aliens or Atlanteans.

Because to this day it is not clear how builders could achieve such excellent stone processing and precise laying, which has not been affected by external factors for centuries. And the measurements of the pyramid themselves are amazing in their results.

When walking to the ticket office, which is not far from the hotel, you should not pay attention to the barkers offering camel rides or calling themselves inspectors. Most likely, these are scammers.

The cost of entry to the territory will cost $8, entrance to the Pyramid of Cheops itself will cost $16. And of course it’s worth visiting the two nearby pyramids of Khafre and Mikerinus, each costing $4. And to see the Solar Boat - $7.

History and construction of the Great Pyramid of Cheops

It is believed that a certain Hemion, the nephew and vizier of the pharaoh, and, by extension, also a court architect, was involved in bringing the royal ambitions to life. The Pyramid of Cheops was built around 2540 BC, and its construction began twenty years earlier - somewhere in 2560 BC.

More than two million huge stones were needed to build the Great Pyramid of Giza. The largest blocks weighed several tens of tons. For the structure weighing 6.4 million tons, so that it does not sink underground under its own weight, strong rocky soil was chosen. Granite blocks were delivered from a quarry that was located 1000 km away. The purpose of the tallest pyramid in Ancient Egypt also causes a lot of controversy. According to the most common opinion, this is really the tomb of Cheops (the second pharaoh of the IV dynasty of rulers) and members of his family. But nevertheless, discussions around the mystery of the pyramid do not subside. For example, from the point of view of some astronomers, some kind of observatory was equipped here, since the ventilation ducts and corridors point with amazing accuracy to the stars Sirius, Thuban, and Alnitak. It is also interesting that during the construction of the Cheops pyramid, the coordinates of the Earth’s magnetic poles were also taken into account.

Geometry and description of the pyramid of Khufu

The size of the Cheops pyramid surprises even modern people. Its base occupies a huge area of 53 thousand square meters, which is equivalent to ten football fields. Other parameters are no less striking: the length of the base is 230 m, the length of the side edge is the same, and the area of the side surface is 85.5 thousand square meters.

Now the height of the Cheops pyramid is 138 meters, but initially it reached 147 meters, which can be compared to a fifty-story skyscraper. The years have left their mark on the safety of the pyramid. Numerous earthquakes over thousands of years collapsed the stone top of the structure, and the smooth stone with which the outer walls were lined crumbled. And yet, the interior of the attraction, despite many robberies and vandals, remained virtually unchanged.

The entrance to the pyramid, located on the north, was originally at a height of almost 16 meters and was sealed with a granite plug. Now tourists get inside through a huge gap made ten meters below, left in 1820 by the Arabs led by Caliph Abdullah al-Mamun, who attempted to find treasures supposedly hidden here.

Inside the Cheops pyramid there are three tombs, located one above the other. The lowest, unfinished underground chamber is located at the base of the rock. Above it are the burial chambers of the queen and pharaoh, to which the rising Great Gallery leads. Those who built the pyramid created a complex system of corridors and shafts, the plan of which is still being studied by scientists. Egyptologists have put forward a whole theory of understanding the afterlife of people of that time. These arguments explain the secret doors and other design features.

For many years now, the Pyramid of Pharaoh Cheops in Giza, like the Great Sphinx, has been in no hurry to reveal all its secrets. For tourists, it remains the most striking attraction of Egypt. It is impossible to fully comprehend the secrets of its corridors, shafts and ventilation ducts. Only one thing is clear: the Great Pyramid is the fruit of a brilliant design idea.

There are many opinions about when the Cheops pyramid was built and who did it. The most original assumptions are various versions of construction completed long before the Flood by civilizations that did not survive it, as well as hypotheses about alien creators.

The Pyramid of Cheops is a rare case in Egyptology when we can be sure who owns the monument. Often the ancient monuments of Egypt were appropriated by later rulers. The technology of appropriation was very simple - the name of the pharaoh-builder (cartouche) was simply lost from the inscriptions in the temple or in the tomb, and another name was knocked out.

This phenomenon was very common. Take, for example, the famous Pharaoh Tutankhamun. Until 1922, when archaeologist Howard Carter dug up, Egyptologists doubted the existence of this ruler. There was almost no written evidence about him; everything was destroyed by subsequent pharaohs.

In the 19th century, archaeologists often used very barbaric research methods. In the Cheops pyramid, gunpowder explosions were used to find hidden rooms. You can still see traces of such methods on the surfaces of structures (see photo on the left).

During this study, small rooms were discovered above the main burial chamber. Explorers rushed there in the hope of finding treasure, but, of course, there was nothing there except dust.

These rooms, only 1 meter in height, had a purely technical purpose. These are unloading chambers; they protect the ceiling of the burial chamber from collapse and relieve mechanical stress. But it was on the walls of these unloading chambers that scientists discovered inscriptions made by ancient builders.

These were block markings. Just as we now put a label on a product, the ancient Egyptian foremen marked the blocks: “This block is for the pyramid of Khufu, produced at that time, laid at that time.” These inscriptions cannot be fake; they prove that this structure was built by Cheops.

A little about Pharaoh Cheops

In the last paragraph we used the name “Khufu”. This is the official Egyptian name of this pharaoh. Cheops is the Greek interpretation of his name, and not the most common one. Other pronunciations “Cheops” or “Kiops” are more common.

The name “Khufu” is more common in the world. If you are going on an excursion to Giza with a Russian-speaking guide, then there will be no problems, he will be aware of this phonetic difference. But, if you communicate with locals or tourists from other countries, we recommend using the name “Khufu”.

Although Pharaoh Khufu is one of the, it is impossible to write much about him. We know very little about him.

In addition to the fact of the construction of this pyramid, we know that Khufu organized expeditions to develop useful resources in the Sinai Peninsula. That's all. To this day, only two artifacts have survived from Khufu - a giant pyramid 137 meters high and a small ivory figurine only 7.5 centimeters high (pictured on the right).

Pharaoh Cheops remained in people's memory as a tyrant ruler who forced people to work on grandiose construction. We can read about this in the works of the Greek historian Herodotus, who visited Egypt and recorded the stories of the priests.

Surprisingly, his father, Pharaoh Snofru, remained in people's memory as a very kind ruler, although he built as many as three pyramids (and) and overexerted the country twice as much as Cheops.

1. For three thousand years, the Cheops pyramid was considered the tallest structure in the world.

2. It took 20 years to build the pyramid.

It still remains a mystery how, given the level of technology and terrible logistics, it was possible to build such a structure in such a short time. Less monumental structures took from 50 to 200 years.

3. The pyramid is the most accurate compass.

All faces of the Cheops pyramid are oriented to the cardinal points with an error of 5 degrees. It is extremely difficult to make such precise calculations even now, but the Egyptians did this hundreds of years before the invention of the compass. Initially, the correspondence was perfect and only then did the Earth’s North Pole move slightly and a deviation of 5 degrees appeared.

4. The Pyramid of Cheops was seen from deep space.

The construction of the pyramid took more than 2.2 million blocks of limestone. This building material is quite fragile and would probably collapse over time if it were not covered with granite cladding.

There were no gaps at all between the facing slabs, they were perfectly polished and the pyramid looked monolithic. This cladding ideally reflected light, which was clearly visible from space.

5. The temperature in the pyramid is +20 C degrees all year round.

Egypt is a very warm country and even with an outside air temperature of +50 C degrees, in the pyramid the temperature does not exceed +20 C. The Cheops Pyramid is a giant isothermal chamber.

6. There was no body of the pharaoh in the Cheops pyramid.

Many people mistakenly believe that the pyramid is a burial place, but the pyramid only contained things that the ancient Egyptians believed would help the pharaoh in the afterlife. The pharaoh himself was buried in the Valley of the Kings.

7. The Pyramid of Cheops was not built by slaves.

Many people mistakenly believe that slaves worked at the construction site and this is a misconception. The pyramid was built by free architects and masons who came to the construction site from all over Ancient Egypt.

It is very possible that slaves were used as labor, but historians believe that they were prisoners of war. There is reliable information that most of the workers were free and received salaries. In total, about 100,000 thousand people built the pyramid.

8. Incredible craftsmanship and innovative materials.

Lime and granite slabs are held together with a mysterious mortar, the composition and recipe of which have not yet been solved. It was developed in the early Predynastic period. There is an opinion that the solution was applied hot, and after cooling it became stronger than stone and was not afraid of heat, dry winds, or time. Now it’s clear how the pyramid stood for so long; during such a time, any cement would have collapsed under the onslaught of the elements.

The builders of the pyramid were true masters of their craft (definitely not slaves); they fitted the cladding so tightly that it was impossible to even insert a razor blade between the cladding slabs. Where have you seen such a perfect montage?

9. Mathematics.

Let's turn on the logic. The very existence of the pyramid confirms the fact that the Egyptians knew about the “golden ratio”, the number π and other constants that they used in geometry and architecture. Only ancient Greek mathematicians proved these constants a thousand years later.
